  1. Thanks for looking at this Michel and your interest in making a great system even better! This is correct. Yes. It appeared I could control my the devices from the console. Not sure what you are referring to "-2s". An excerpt of my log (see attached) shows the irrigation program ran in the morning (8-03 6:20am) but not in the evening (7:56pm). Instead, you see attempts (by me) to control watering wiith my android phone. One interesting thing I noticed is a number of commands involving my thermostat. This behavior continued until I rebooted the ISY (8-04 @ 7:56am). Another obsevation of my log shows when I was able to run the irrigation program mannually (8-04 8:10am, after reboot). It also appears a number of redundant commands are being processed by the ISY. I hope you can make something of this log excerpt or explain whatever my issues were. But since the reboot, things are now running normally.
  2. I am experiencing strange program behavior. My irrigation program will not run this evening, even though the program conditions are true (on console). The program is pretty straightforward and has been running correctly this summer. But this evening I can’t force it to run manually. If $iDayofYear >= $iWB_NextIrrigateDay Then Run Program 'Z1 Lake Lawn' (Then Path) Wait 12 minutes Run Program 'Z1 Lake Lawn' (Else Path) Wait 15 seconds Run Program 'Z2 Deck Lawn' (Then Path) Wait 12 minutes Run Program 'Z2 Deck Lawn' (Else Path) Wait 15 seconds Run Program 'Z5 Side Lawn' (Then Path) Wait 8 minutes Run Program 'Z5 Side Lawn' (Else Path) Wait 5 seconds Run Program 'Z7 Street Lawn' (Then Path) Wait 8 minutes Run Program 'Z7 Street Lawn' (Else Path) Wait 10 seconds Run Program 'Water Shrubs' (If) Else Irrigation - Cycle Complete I wonder if I need to reboot my ISY for some reason. Other programs are also not running. Some lighting scenes also are not on (that should be). It’s almost like I'm having communication errors, or a PLM that may be dying. Except when I try to run this program, nothing happens. The ISY will not report the program status as running (due to the wait actions). So wouldn’t that be an ISY problem and not something else? Update: In the morning I rebooted my ISY and that solved the problem with the program. I looked at the error log and if my sprinklers worked the morning of 8/3, I don't see anything that would indicate a reason the programs were frozen in the evening. 3. Since this is something we don't do often, it's hard to remember the exact steps necessary to make the change. When I needed to change a keypad, I called SH. I don't recall how long I had to wait for help, but once I got someone, they were very helpful and walked me though the process and key presses plus answer other questions I had about the switch. I'd suggest you try that route.
  4. Is there a way to poll the ISY to find out how many devices and programs you have?
  5. A screen shot of what you're looking at would be helpful to formulate a reply.
  6. Thanks again Michel for your interest in following up on this issue. My neighbor was successful in rebooting my ISY this evening and now I'm back in business. I'm thinking he is almost as good as a back-up power supply, but now I have to figure out a way to re-pay him for lending the helping hand. Also, I forwarded the error log to you. Hopefully,, that will provide a clue as what may have locked things up this time. Jim Sanders
  7. Thanks for the link. Similar issue and your suggestion for backup is welcomed. I now realize I should've designed a power supply for my system. I plan to address this when I get back home. Thanks for the reply. I have the current official version 3.1.17 (haven't tried beta's while I'm away). Unfortunately, I don't think I set up a forwarding port to access my router remotely. I tried some common suggested setups and only get the 'Ping request could not find host...' message. One thing noted was the afternoon my ISY went down I was using a new web app Home & Away. I don't know that caused my crash but I did think that while using H&A to control some of the devices, the status was not necessarily updating correctly. I had the Admin Console open at the same time and used it to correct the status of the device (which, BTW happens to be the only v3.5 dimmer switch in my system). After I confirmed all was off in the console, then H&A, I logged out. When I came back later that evening, my connection to the ISY was lost. It could be interesting to check the log to see what was actually happening when contact was lost. I'm imposing on my neighbor to try a re-boot on my ISY this evening. Turns out he could be my 'redundant' backup system. If that works, I should have access restored. I'll also know a bit more and should be able to view the log.
  8. I've been vacationing away from my home for about 5 weeks this winter/spring. But yesterday afternoon sometime, I lost 'contact' with my home automation system. I don't know if it was a power hiccup from high winds, some new software I was trying out (Home & Away), or something else. At any rate, it appears my ISY computer controller has crashed. I still have a video feed to my house so I know the network/router is up. I just can't access the ISY anymore. Also, when I checked the video feed last night, the house was dark. It looked like none of the lighting routines were working, so it may be something other than a lost IP address, (like total loss of power supply). In over 6 years I've had this system setup, the only times the ISY went down was during a power failure or hiccup. But it would always come back on it's own, sometimes even restore the IP connection to the router. So this crash may be something new like a PLM failure. Does anyone have any ideas what could be my problem? Is there anyway to reboot the ISY remotely? If not, I may ask my neighbor to go over and try a reboot. But if that doesn't work, I doubt there is anything else I can do. It'll just have to wait until I get back, which means the house will remain dark for the next two weeks. While home automation has been a fun hobby, and the system has been fairly stable over time, I'm a bit disappointed that I've had yet another glitch while on vacation. The last glitch I had was last fall,. Then, while I was on vacation, it was a 1st generation t-stat that somehow went wild and 'locked' up my ISY. Since then, I replaced the t-stat and I doubt that is the issue this time. Is my ISY just telling me I should never take a vacation? I guess one thing I may need to consider is purchasing a UPS (un-interruptable power supply) for my modem, router & ISY. Jim
  9. Unless Igdixon only wants a message sent to Ivory Dixon if light was on at 11PM. That said, is it possible that as soon as line one executes, the status of this program changes to false and goes to the 'Else' condition. If that is the case, moving the 1st line down to the third should fix that.
  10. The Cool and Fan nodes will populate when the states for those change. If you cycle your fan (only) on/off, you'll see the correct status appear. Same with the cooling cycle. Hope this helps.
  11. Thanks for getting back to me Michel. I'm thinking there is something with this new laptop that is blocking Java from working in the Browser. These links work on my desktop, although I'm connected at home to my network. However, I can't get the Console up on my laptop remotely or here at home. But the Java applet works on the laptop here at home. A puzzlement! I'll look into this a little more tomorrow.
  12. I saw a recent post http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=8121 were someone could not log on remotely to the Admin Console. I am experiencing the same problem from my laptop. This is a new laptop and the first time I am trying to connect remotely with the browser. I use this computer at home and have no problems accessing the Console running the Java applet. I accepted the certificate and cleared the Java cache but can't get past the spinning Java screen. I haven't seen this issue before. Do I need to install something on my laptop to make it work? Edit: I found I can access ISY-C-99 platform and control my Devices/Scenes/Programs and all the modules, but I am unable to get into the Admin Console. Not sure this Java error describes my problem, but this came up when I got home and tried to log onto the Console. My first attempt to logon failed. Then I cleared the cache and the Admin Console came up fine using the Java Applet. These details did pop up though. 13. Cool. I did not know you can create audible warnings from Insteon switches. I will want to try this.
  14. From your Admin Console, go to the menu option on the far right and select 'Manage my modules'. You'll need the discount code (if it's still valid).
  15. Here is a real time testimonial for our folks at U-D. If you watched 'Breaking News', you already know the Northwest is in the middle of a nasty snow and ice storm. Over 100,000 people (& counting) have lost power. We're one of them. And it was a very unusual power outage in that only one leg of the power lines supply flickered on and off about 3 times before the one leg went out. After 10 minutes or so, the second leg went down so all power lines were lost. However, we do have a small natural gas backup generator. During the time that only one leg of the power was out, our electronics were going berserk. Our generator clicked on as it should but lights were flashing, the oven beeped and the plasma TV clicked continuously. The generator's transfer box also howled until both power legs went out. Then things went back to normal mode. And here is the testimonial part. "Hats off" to U-D for creating a solid system that holds up under such circumstances. Our ISY came back up under our generator and all lighting scenes and programing worked with out missing a heartbeat! WOW! The power outage situation also sets a pretty good benchmark for Insteon products as a whole and it's components are robust to survive all this. All 60 plus switches and devices I have came through all this with flying colors! Our TV even works on generator power now! I have to knock on wood and hold my breath a little but as the power lines are still out. While I have some surge protection outlets, I do not have whole home surge protection installed. I'm also in the middle of wiring in my new ELK M-1 so I am strongly considering adding UPS that connects the ELK, Modem, router and ISY.
  16. Not sure I would want to. The only scenario I could think of is if I were an installer, or maybe at a friends house trying to work with another system using my PC. However, it doesn't seem to difficult to me to update either. More importantly, I often use other computers to access my own system. It seems whenever I perform a firmware update, I don't always remember to update every other PC I may use in the future. A warning message would alert me to that fact. Now I find myself sometimes staring (at the old console) and my mind falls into the problem solving mode "now what's wrong?"
  17. My two cents would be not to restrict the console applet from opening if versions do not match. I would prefer a dialog box that only pops up if the versions are not equal. The message would read something like "Warning. The Admin Console version does not match the firmware update. Are you sure you want to do this? Yes/No"
  18. You need to put the thing in the bathroom. That way, it becomes a night light
  19. My best response is yes and no. There is some capability to get the ISY to react to some things generated by the ELK. But the module is advertised to provide complete integration between the ISY and the ELK. Anyway, that's my understanding. I bought the module (it's still on sale I think) and have the latest ISY firmware update which shows the tabs for the ELK panel. However, I am in the middle of wiring my new ELK into my house so my tabs are pretty much blank at the moment.
  20. I'd recommend the latest version, currently 3.1.16. http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=7702[/u This version clears up some bugs and other problems found in the earlier versions. Follow the steps listed, remember to clear your Java cache and load the corresponding applet]http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3.1.16/admin.jnlp
  21. I am not sure that it's possible and I don't think I would go that route to control your HVAC. The KPL buttons provide and ON/OFF toggle essentially, but the t-stat mode has Off/Auto/Program Auto/Heat/Cool modes. I do not see a way you can have a scene that controls all 5 modes. It should be possible to use a scene with the KPL that runs a program in the ISY based on prescribed conditions. When the KPL is off, the t-stat is off. When on, the t-stat could be in one or any of the other modes you want to specify. Better yet, I'd suggest you get an iphone/smartphone. Then you can have fingertip control of your HVAC where ever you are. Jim
  22. You are a patient man Robert to trace this bug down. I had similar issues using variables but my workaround used 'flag' programs as a backup in my condition statements. If this issue gets resolved, I'll be able to simplify many of my programs, which introduces a host of other issues. And I still need to get my ELK wired in and working. (Sigh)
  23. Sometimes I think I've experienced strange behavior with programs not running correctly. Even if you run them manually. I've seen other posts where variables in sub-directories are sometimes not evaluated correctly. Try creating a new program in your root directly that will set the variable and see if that works. Jim
  24. Anyone have the link to that file? Merry Christmas everyone!
  25. I wish I understood what you just posted as I want to control zones on my Russound CAA66 with the ISY. I would assume the protocol is the same as your model. I have an ELK IP232 for the Russound that I will hook up once I get my ATX power supply up and running. After that, I suppose I'm going to have to have a better understanding of REST, RIO, RNET or whatever. It sounds like using those tools can be a bit difficult.
