A related question to this problem...The SwitchLinc I have in this location is an older (non-dual band) model. If I end up replacing it, would anything be helped by replacing it with a dual-band model since it is a couple hundred feet from the house (and probably 300ft over electrical wire run) or is that a no-op? Tom

A factory reset and Restore Device sounds easier than removing it from the wall and wiring it to the PLM. I think I'll try that first Thanks for your help Lee! -Tom

I took my cell phone out there with MobiLinc on it. I can turn the lights On/Off without any problem whatsoever. The Switchlinc responds fine: leds go up, leds go down, relay clicks, etc. I switched it many 10s of times over 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the ISY thinks it can't communication with it. And, I have been turning everything else on and off and it all works just fine. Should I think about replacing the SwitchLinc? I guess I could use one as a spare or put it somewhere else...I'm still at a loss... -Tom

But it is responding! The lights go On and Off.... -Tom

That transient lasted a long time (many hours)! Seems odd... Here are the On/Off commands sent to the Switchlinc having problems. I must say, this Switchlinc is at the end of a very long electrical run (perhaps 300ft from the house). On the other hand, it is fed with a beefy cable as it is feeding 240V 60A to a kiln. Also, before upgrading I have never seen this (red exclamation point), nor ever had any problems with that Switchlinc. Tom

I ran it and now only the SwitchLinc (Artshedlights) has the red !. Below is the Event Log from the ApplianceLinc and the (not working) SwitchLinc (again).

Could the problem be with the ISY itself or does it seem more like a PLM/powerline issue? The reason I ask is I have another 994i that I could try, that is to eventually go to another location. And if I did try that, should I backup the current config and load it on the new 994i, or should I try loading the config from the 99i? -Tom

The 99i has been running 3.3.10 for a while (since it was released). -Tom

Another SwitchLinc v.37, and OutletLinc v.38, and an Outdoor ApplianceLinc v.41. Tom

Yes, same PLM. (2476S) SwitchLinc Relay W/ Sense v.37 It is odd too that I can control the devices at will and have not had a single failure (to turn on or off) of any of these devcies. Nothing has changed, though I may have run a query on the device in between them. Tom

Interesting. I will attempt to leave it alone. Thanks, Tom

On my new ISY994i I see a scene called "Auto DR" (says ADR0001 - Managed Scene). What is this and why is it there? Can I remove it? I know I didn't add it and I never noticed this on my ISY99i... -Tom

I upgraded a 99i to a 994i this evening according to the instructions here (and what UDI sent). The 99i as well as the 994i are both at 3.3.10. I now have several devices that show a red exclamation point in front of them, but the the ISY can control them just fine. I have tried to query each one multiple times but that didn't help, but I can turn them on/off without any problem. I did a Show Device Links Table on one of the devices and got this error message: Failed reading device link (ArtShedLights) [-200000/-S] SSL request not authenticated Below is the output of Show ISY Links Table: ISY Links Table : ArtShedLights / 12 EC D7 1 0 4088 162 0 1667512 16719616 1 4080 162 1 1294714 16719616 2 4072 162 16 1667512 16719616 3 4064 226 1 1294714 16719617 4 4056 226 1 1667512 1 5 4048 0 0 0 0 What could be the problem? I am waiting to buy when this is implemented, so please follow up to this thread when you find anything out Michel (and thanks!!). -Tom

Perhaps I am being naive but I would say it had better be functional 10 years from now! I have a Waterbug monitor tied to my security system for a critical sump pump and it has worked flawlessly since 1999 (knock on wood). I don't anticipate it failing either. I don't mind changing a battery every 10 years (more or less) but I would fully expect the thing to work! But that's just me I guess... I guess heartbeat is better than a sharp stick in the eye, and as was pointed out, worse case is 24 hours of dead battery. Of course, Murphy's law will dictate that that failure will occur during the 500 year flood Tom

I have heat pumps (two of them) as well and am using Ecobee thermostats. I really like them. They don't talk to my ISY (at least not yet), but they are accessible via the web (and i-device apps). They give me all the info I got from the Carrier thermostats only online and are SO much easier to use. I use it to at a vacation house as well that also has a heat pump and I can monitor and control the house remotely. Tom

Re: Release 3.3.10 (RC7) Is Now Available
tome replied to Michel Kohanim's topic in Previous Releases
Once the app is running go down to the dock and right click (two finger click on my trackpad) and select Options -> Keep in Dock. The icon is a default java app (looks like a terminal) but at least its in your dock.... Tom -

Michel, I will try to do this tomorrow evening and send it. -Tom Wouldn't you know it, while running Wireshark it succeeded on the first try. If you want to see the trace I will send it to you, Michel (send me an email address), though I suspect a good one won't show anything useful. I will try to remember to run Wireshark during future updates to capture a failure. Tom

Can a program be written on the ISY to do something with it, if it hears them? Tom
-
Are there plans to add that? Seems like a critical feature for something like a water detector (to know it is still working). Do you know if it reports low battery? I am considering this device or a Waterbug type device connected to either an IOLinc/ISY or my Ecobee thermostat which has some limited home automation functionality. I want it to be reliable and as maintenance free as possible. Thanks, Tom

None of these things apply. There is no firewall turned on, nothing on the router logs out of the ordinary or that would point to packet loss. The ISY is connected directly to the router at this remote site. I am not local to the site (hence remote) so there is no way to try this until I go there (not for some months probably). The site has great internet access (30+Mbps/6+Mbps) and I am not seeing any latency or dropped packets for any other devices there (or in the router logs). In addition, as I said in my original email, I have had this problem for years. Sometimes I can get it to work first try, other times if I try many 10's of times over several days. I think I had success when you asked that I increase the timeouts on the ISY using the CWT from the command line the first time years back, but that hasn't ever helped since. I am a network engineer during the day, the issue is not network or firewall related. This is truly a problem with the ISY update mechanism or protocols used. Again, I do not have this problem when updating several other devices at this site. I just updated FW on the router without issue to test it, no problem whatsoever. Tried the ISY again and it failed again.... BTW, is there a way to scp (or ftp) the image to the ISY itself and tell it to load it locally (via command line)? Tom

Does the INSTEON Water Leak Sensor (2852-222) send a low battery signal to the ISY99 when it is time to change the battery? On the description it claims to send a daily heartbeat, does the ISY99 report if that is missed as well? Thanks, Tom
