I have a motion sensor in my entry area. The way I want it to work is: 1) If it is evening and no one has turned on the entry light, motion in the area should cause lights to come on. After a timeout period, they should go off on their own. 2) If someone turns on the lights manually (controlled by a SL), they should stay on unless turned off at the switch. 3) Additionally, if the motion sensor turned them on, but someone then turns the switch on as well (before the motion program turns them off), they should stay on until turned off at the switch. This is just a special case of #2 - using the SL to signal I want them left on. The problem I have with what I currently have programmed is that if I turn them on at the switch and someone (or some dog trips the motion sensor, the lights will go out after the timeout period. My program(s) that control this now are as follows. What/where can I add something that will leave the lights on if turned on from the switch? Folder "Entry Light Control" EntryLightControlStatus EntryLightsOff EntryLightsOn EntryMotion EntryOccupied Folder "Time Variables" Evening

Michel and Apostolakisl, Thank you both for your help. Concise and understood. It also explains the other problem I was having that had an identical end-result as the problem with the gardenshed lights. Tome

A related but slightly different question: Let's say I have three switches in a scene, all as controllers. Two are switchlincs and one a keypadlinc (I want one of the keypad buttons to light in sync with switchlincs). If a program causes one of the switchlincs to come on, will the keypad link button then come on because they are in a scene together? Or does manipulating the switch with a program somehow negate the scene relationship? Thanks for your help, Tome

Thanks for the response. Is it possible to have multiple controllers in a scene? Tome

I have a problem with several scenes in my house and am wondering if it is my misunderstanding rather then an ISY problem. As one example: I have some lights in a garden shed that are tied to a Switchlinc out there and I called it GardenShedLights in the ISY. I have a 6-button Keypad in my Kitchen that I wish to control the shed lights and also be updated (On lit, or Off lit) when someone switches on/off the light in the shed. I called this KitchenKeypad in the ISY. I want to use the big on/off buttons on this keypad. I created a scene called ShedLight with GardenShedLights and KitchenKeypad.1 in it. If I click on KitchenKeypad.1 in the device list it says in the Membership area: KitchenKeypad.1 Manages ShedLight GardenShedlights Is Manged By Shedlight If I click on the Switchlinc (GardenShedLights) it says in the Membership area: GardenShedLights Manages Is Manged By Shedlight KitchenKeypad.1 Now it mostly works, however, if someone goes out to the shed and turns on the lights attached to the switchlinc the kitchen keypad status is not updated. The "on" light doesn't come on. If I hit the kitchen keypad "off" key, the lights will go out and "off" will be illuminated on the keypad, but the status on the keypad does not seem to be updated automatically from the switchlinc. What didi I do wrong? As I say I have this problem on several simple set ups like this one. Tome

Michel, If I call Smarthome and tell them it lost it's mind but is better now - sounds like some people I know - will they replace it for that reason? Tome

My system has been relatively static for a while. Tonight I went to turn out some lights that are in two different locations which I have been doing nearly every night since the time change and thought, why don't I just make fast off on the first switch turn off the others for me? So I wrote the worlds simplest program on the ISY (well, perhaps there are simpler ones, but...), and it didn't work! It was driving me crazy for a while, going back and forth testing, checking the program, etc. I finally remembered to run the event view and couldn't see anything at all. Searching the forum I came across the advice to restore the plm. Sure enough this worked. Why does the PLM need to be restored from time to time? Why can't the ISY check to see if the PLM has lost it's mind and restore it on it's own? Or if not that, why not just restore the plm on a schedule automatically? -Tome

I have a smallish network (20) of Insteon devices which I installed in Nov 09. I have an ISY-99 that controls them. In early June this year I had an IOLinc fail and Smarthome promptly replaced it. In late July I had an Access Point and PLM go bad and once again Smarthome replaced them. After fixing the PLM I realized I also had two bad ApplianceLincs and a bad IOLinc (2nd IOLinc failed in a different way then it did first time). Once again, Smarthome is replacing them, no (unreasonable) questions asked. Perhaps my power line took a lightning strike or surge, I don't know... I have to say that I am happy with SmartHome's warranty and return policy and they have been great. Before deciding on and installing Insteon I had read accounts of people having reliability issues with Insteon and had Smarthome not had a good warranty and return policy I wouldn't have purchased Insteon. In my reading I concluded that Smarthome seemed to have quite a few reliability issues early on (early in Insteon's life anyway) but that they had addressed those problems and were making amends in terms of customer service and support, etc. as Insteon has progressed. It seemed that fewer and fewer people were having issues, or at least fewer and fewer people were complaining publicly and loudly about it. Now that I have had nearly 30% failure rate in less than a year I am just wondering what the long term prospects are? Are other people seeing device failure rates this high? Perhaps this was just an anomaly? Thanks Tome

Factory reset didn't help. I am going to contact smarthome for replacement. Thanks for your help! Tome

Yes, the LED stays on regardless. Can I just factory reset and expect everything to come back on the ISY correctly? Or do I have to remove it and re-add it and all that? Thanks, Tome
-
The LED stays on regardless of the up/down state of the door. Also, querying the IOLinc sensor it's state never changes from "On". I checked the switch and it is operating properly but the IOLinc LED stays on (and it's state is On) regardless of the state of the switch.. Tome

I have had an IOlinc working on a garage door for many months (since Dec 09). Recently I have noticed that when the door goes down the IOLinc sensor does not indicate that it is down (and the LED stays on - this used to work fine). The IOLinc relay reliably puts the door up/down as it should but the sensor is giving a bad indication and so my programs don't do the right thing. I think this started happening when I updated to the latest firmware 2.7.15. The settings seem to be correct from what I originally had (LED on TX, and Momentary B, etc). Could it be that the IOLinc somehow got in a confused state or is that just a red herring and I should be doing hardware tests on the magnetic switch or something? If so, how should I reset it, or go about testing it? Thanks, Tome

Michel, Upping the HTTP time to even 15,000 did not help this time around. Using the https link worked for me...

I am having the same problem as last time. On a Mac, can't get past 13%... Tome

Michel, Worked for me was well. Thanks! Tome

Yep, fails from the Mac. Tome

There is a problem somewhere. There seems to be a timing problem. It could be in the network stack on the ISY or something. I cannot get it loaded. Mostly it stops at 13% though once I got to 17% I had this issue in the past and rebooting the ISY happened to clear it that time. Not this time. I have rebooted the ISY 10's of times now to no avail. I have tried 4 different machines (all Macs) in my house wired, wireless, directly connected, though a switch. It doesn't matter. Tome
-
I get to 13% and get "Upgrade Failed :Invalid Length". This from a computer directly connected and no firewall software at all. Tome PS: Tried from two other computers (one wired, one wireless), same result. Can't install.

I skipped 2.7.11, just got busy with some other things. I upgraded from 2.7.10 to 2.7.12 today on my local ISY and a remote one and all seems fine. Tome

Check out this thread. I had exactly the same issue: http://forum.universal-devices.com/view ... sc&start=0 My IOLinc is v.36 but I am not sure that will matter... Tome

Michel, Any word on getting SSL certs to work from MacOS X? Thanks, Tome

I would certainly like to hear an official answer to this question. My testing of jumper 5 showed me that it makes no difference to what the ISY can control on the MS. In either position, the ISY can control Timeout, LED brightness, and Dark sensitivity. I read that it allows Smarthome's software to control features of the MS, and I can only assume that it allows control of the functions controlled by the other jumpers.

Often when I am looking at program status I see that the QueryAll program is True. If I Run (If) on it it will go back to false, but I wonder why it is usually sitting there True, when it isn't 3am? Does "If Time 3:00:00AM" get put into a cron job or something, that is, is it evaluated differently than other scheduling directives? Tome

This sure sounds a lot like my problem when I try to create and install a cert from my Mac. To get the ISY back to it's default cert I have to remove the one that gets installed. To do that I telnet to the ISY, log in, and issue the command: RF /CONF/UD.DCF (this removes the file UD.DCF in the /CONF directory which is the cert file). I then reboot the ISY, which can be done at the telnet prompt with: RS I am not saying you should do this, or that it will fix your problem (my disclaimer)... Tome PS: What system are you connecting from? Are you using the admin console app?

So this is not a port forwarding issue. You should be able to get to the device locally via https if you have the port on the ISY set correctly. What version software is your ISY running (Help menu -> About)? Tome
