Can you use any motion flood light so long as it doesn't use dual bright technology and mate it with a Insteon Micro On/Off module: http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2443-222-micro-on-off-module.html

Hey, as long as he's paying for your time its just business . . .

Nothing wrong with that as it will give you a point of reference for what a low budget camera will offer. Keeping in mind this camera may very well suit your immediate needs. Everyone has to start from some where . . . Its very hard to argue a $59.XX PTZ camera that offers so much value to a person. Having said this after you see what companies like Axis, Pelco, Bosch, Sony, Mobotix offers you realize why it was worth paying $400 - upwards for a single camera system.

That solution works well in the case the user is not aware of them. But in this case he does and don't know how the OP is going to sell the end user to hand over his mobile in hopes of *hiding* something that is well known. So what happens when the end user goes into the Admin UI?

1. What is your budget if its modest you're limited to many 3rd tier vendors. If its more you have almost anything you can afford. 2. What kind of conditions are you expecting to capture - be realistic. If you want to see real faces and license plates you won't get that going cheap. 3. Night Vision: You literally pay for the quality because regardless of all the bells and whistles of DSP processing its a band aid for poor quality hardware. 4. Optics vs Mega Pixels: No camera you buy should be based on how many mega pixels it can render. You pay lots of money for great optics and lens with filters and shutter speeds. Bottom line if you want to see random object based on every lighting condition you can buy anything. If you want to have a long term quality hardware consider this an investment in your home and protection of your family. One is thinking about today, while the other is looking toward the future . . .

I think that's a fantastic idea for the whole stealth look for sure. For me looks are very important so it would pain me to paint the Dot but would probably purchase some speaker mesh that could be painted to match the cover plate and decor of the room while the Dot was hidden underneath. Using speaker cloth is a much cleaner look and offers almost no hindrance to the microphones ability to speak and be heard. For me it would be installing the Dot in the ceiling as central as possible for the best coverage. But trying to balance the over all look and feel . . .

So one would have to beg to ask the question once you determine the root cause is user error. What does the user have to say about all of this?!?! Doing something more than three times isn't a mistake its failure to comprehend what is happening. I believe this is why so many people have begged and pleaded UDI offer multi user login rights. Having such a feature with say a read only, user, full user, to admin would have prevented any of this from the onset. But then again people often call out the famous phrase *you can't fix stupid* if they are hell bent in doing it over and over again. I feel your pain as there have been a few installs where the end user was really trying my patience and ultimately we just charged more until they either stopped calling or smarten up!

The first two requests to your question is no. The last part would be crafting a monitoring program to watch the state of the folder and send a email affirming the same. This is a user issue which either requires more edification, hand holding, or accepting he/she is going to be a loss leader.

It should be noted the heart beat function can also be used as a method to perform a remote update based on the interval set. This obviously only applies to hardware that support it and have the ability to change the heart beat send interval. For the device that do not have a heart beat like the motion sensor you simply need to walk past the FOV and this will wake up the unit and keep it awake long enough to up load the pending writes. Also, not all hardware revisions support the remote device write feature so YMMV. As noted above some devices report back their heart beat using on vs off so both should be monitored. Lastly, some hardware require anywhere from 0 - 3 seconds to be inserted into the program to allow the device enough time to complete the remote device write. Using this method for none critical hardware is great as it avoids climbing a 25 foot ladder or moving some huge random object that has access issues.

Failing all of the above perform a hard reset of the device outlined in the full users manual.

There have been several people here that have gone that route of placing the PLM on a UPS system in hopes of solving their communication related issues. Based on feed back some of them have indicated it has resolved their communication related issues and left it at that. In the big picture that is simply a cheap band aid to an existing problem that needs to be solved. Everyone knows there are some appliances that simply create noise or eat up the Insteon signal. So you can't expect a person to throw away, upgrade, or replace something like a furnace, fridge, etc. But that is why they made power line filters . . . So it really comes down to putting in some sweat equity to determine what is the root cause of the noise makers / signal suckers in the home. Now, from a loss of power stand point unless your home is on a pure sine wave back up generator I don't see much value in placing the PLM on a UPS. The only thing I agree on given the terrible design of the PLM is to ensure its on a protected circuit using all three types of SPD's. Obvious considerations are to ensure what ever SPD is in use does not have a filter that blocks or absorbs the Insteon signal.

Keeping in mind a symbol at times is much easier to see and understand then a phrase. As others also stated it comes down to use case and preference. For me I would only use clean defined phrases in an area of public use. For more specific use like a status board I could see myself using a icon & phrase. Doing the color filtering and the inline paint to give that added pop. If done right would look very nice. It's easy to cross that line of busy, gouty, to ghetto quickly. Agreed, and in the big picture I know this is something that will be purchased. But at the moment I'm going to sit this one out while I figure out how much I want to invest in this HA business. My time and finances are currently dedicated toward a full one Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus . . . Once the above gets more hammered out and some best practices are noted I am sure this will move up the list of nice to haves.

I think its a great option for those who don't care for the new form factor of the tap. You also have the choice of back up battery duration based on your personal finances. They don't show too much of the unit and that stupid video that was made needs to be trashed. I've not seen such terrible video skills in a long time - might as well been a drunk bum holding the camera. I waited until the end to see if he would ever zoom in to the back of the unit. But all he did was show the little LED charging status light. I wanted to see the power input port, bottom and the unit with out the Echo attached from a top view.

If you need some kind of middle ware the RPi for $35.00 USD is really hard to beat considering it now offers native WiFi & Blue Tooth. Along with faster processor . . .

My take is like yours which is a using a multi prong and multi price point device that suites the realistic needs of the end user. For me I guess because in the past I wasted so much money on toy like devices for that immediate gratification. Only to find out that gratification came with huge limitations or didn't actually offer the insight I wanted from the on set. You know what they say about getting older - you at some point get wiser. Maybe in my old age I've just come to the point where I no longer want a stop gap solution and hate wasting money on something I know won't make me happy. Having said this the Eve product does offer lots of advantages and features for a simple pound a nail in the wall! After looking over the specifications for the Eve product line there are too many limitations for me. First this is a BLE product which requires a Apple TV for remote access and control. The device is intended as local access with Apple products which is fine for me but obviously not for others sporting Android. As you noted there isn't a easy open source method to integrate with this device. Since its Apple Home Kit certified it does indicate if you had the skill set you could integrate with said product. You are also correct (IF) it was 100'C I would have bigger problems to worry about! LOL . . . My previous reply was to offer insight about how well the 1 wire sensors are capable of being inserted and placed in extreme conditions. I have many of them inserted in the attic, soil, water pipes, and HVAC, etc. Placing one of these sensors in the attic would kill the electronics and the battery in short order. For normal weather monitoring it would be a great solution as its very clean looking and based on the specs its decent for its price range. Based on the video's and screen captures it appears on the surface they have some decent data tracking. But for just two of these devices I could have already bought an Autelis Bridge and be able to monitor temp / humidity with no more long term costs etc. The only down side is it requires running wires through out the property and home. The ability to mount a remote device free of wires is a huge deal for many of us as I am sure it is for you. But, given the above for me its a none starter mostly because its a BLE connected device.

Yes, this is why I went forward with a Autelis Bridge 1 wire hardware solution for extreme temperature monitoring and placement. Along with the simple fact I never had to worry about long term costs for batteries. With respect to the Eve device what are the specs for this particular unit? Meaning for example what is the range of measurement and what is the tolerances? I personally don't think I could accept anything less than -55 to +125'C with a resolution of 0.1 / 0.5. I often see humidity from various vendors indicating +/- 2 to10% and quite a restricted range of 40 - 85 RH. Will take a look at the Eve and see what they spec it out to be . . .

Interested to hear the same also. Since I first created this environmental weather thread my thoughts and findings are there are lots of hardware on the market. But many of them fail in the most basic category which I believe is basic 101: Which is accuracy of the data - given its 2016 I find that extremely sad and frustrating given the massive amounts of technology we have at hand. Several large chip makers have released extremely cheap, small, and multi purpose IC's which are very accurate. Yet we see one of the following scenarios. Either we see cheap devices with no accuracy - or we see decent accuracy with extremely high prices WTF ?!?! Sometimes I wonder if I won the lottery how I would turn this specific market upside down and produce my very own device which offered great value, accuracy, and open concept for all to integrate with. Quite sad really . . .

Most fans that I have used and seen make some kind of noise in the various modes. All of the fan lincs I have in place don't add to the noise of the fan at all. Am I to understand your saying the fan with out the Insteon devices normally makes no noise at all in any of the speed modes?
