  1. There used to be a template but I cannot find a copy of this, although I still have some sheets that I printed with it. Really you just need to use word to print your own. The boxes on the template can help to cut the label out. I recently printed some labels using Avery clear labels, although I cannot find the font that I used. Font type and size is the key issue. If you are going to do the entire keypad then just use something that looks good to you. Use all caps. I'll keep looking for the actual template but I think I deleted it.
  2. I have a Kpl with buttons from the 50 button pack and maybe some custom buttons in a 3 gang box with a light almond (I think) faceplate. The other switches are a switchlinc dimmer and a standard decora paddle. I don't recall if the Kpl is white Orr light almond. In any case the Kpl looks fine and blends right in.
  3. Using scenes rather than programs results in faster responses. Stu, I did not know this. Thanks. Page 13: http://cache.insteon.com/pdf/2845-222.pdf If Your Door Is Already Open Press and release Door Sensor’s contact plunger twice then hold the contact plunger until Door Sensor beeps. If Your Door Is Closed Open your door and press and release Door Sensor’s contact plunger twice. After a pause, Door Sensor will beep.
  4. Teken, just curious because I have my isy on a ups, but not the plm. The plm is on a generator backup circuit. Insteon teaching is to not put a plm on any type of surge suppressor. Eric
  5. We've been on our generac 36kw just a few times, short duration. Have not noticed any flickering. Is your plm on the battery back up?
  6. Hi, I had my first all on event, details are in the communications/another all on event. I don't think that section gets enough member traffic so below. are the last posts from Michel and me regarding my set up. I have the motion sensor as the controller of a scene to turn on the laundry room lights. The load controller is a 6 button Kpl. I use on only with a 0.5 timeout. The light turns off after 10 minutes with a program. Functionally this is working fine. I have a similar set up in the pantry with a MS and a switchlinc relay, also working fine. The concern was a motion sensor controlling a Kpl with a scene and also serving as a condition in a program for the same Kpl. Apparently this may be related to the all on event, although I did not see anything in my log at the time of the all on event regarding the MS. Eric Michel,The way I have this set up works fine. I'm using the on only option, so the light does not turn off after the time out. This has to mean that an off is not sent. What is the evidence that the MS has anything to do with the all on? Eric
  7. I am not sure I understand how you are setting things up, but here are some thoughts based upon how I do it For the kitchen lights you have a few kpls that are controllers of the kitchen lights scene. The kitchen lights are also responders of the dinner time scene. You also need to include the hall keypad kitchen and the two other Kpl buttons that control the kitchen lights scene as responders to the dinner time scene. The next part is much debated and has to do with your own preferences and what it means to have a scene on. For our dining scene which has numerous members including the kitchen lights switchlinc and 3 Kpl buttons that are controllers of the kitchen lights. I set the two Kpl buttons that control the dining scene to non toggle on. So anytime the button is pressed the scene is activated, the two dining Kpl buttons are on. If I turn off the kitchen lights, I say that the dining scene is no longer "on" so I want the two dining kpls to turn off. For this I use monitoring programs. I frequently reference this linc for a full explanation: http://www.adamsj.com/isy/basementA.htm I create a scene called dining kpls with both dining kpls as responders. Monitoring program is something like this: If status kitchen lights is not on Or status island lights is not on Then set scene dining kpls off. (I would have to check my actual program to see if I have the condition include and dining Kpl is on). Now the flip side is what if I turn on the dining scene by turning on all scene members individually. There is a monitoring program for that too. If status kitchen lights is not off And status island lights is not off Then set scene dining kpls on. I can use the all off button to turn all the lights off. Or we can activate another scene. I hope this is somewhat helpful. Eric
  8. Hopefully one of the experts will chime in. The trigger for the second program is one of the Kpl B buttons turning off. It looks like you have a scene with the Kpl buttons as responders. What is the response level for each button for the scene when controlled by the isy. What does the isy show for the status of the B buttons when the second program is triggered. More info on your set up and how you want things to function would help. For your second program I would usually use control rather than status. If I turn the button off then do x,y,z. If you have some other program or scene "a" that turns off one of the B buttons which in turn runs the program then that is an extra step. Just make "a" a controller of all of the scenes in the second program to turn them off or to just run the second program.
  9. Is Kpl front door or back door a responder to one of the scenes in the first program.
  10. I hang my coat in the laundry room by the garage door. I went to grab it this morning and for a split second fumbled to turn on the lights which are now on a 6button Kpl. Fortunately, at that moment, the new motion sensor triggered the lights on. Paddles are definitely the easiet. I like the 6 buttons because they simulate paddles in that the top is on, bottom is off. 8 buttons can be more difficult to figure out, even when properly labeled. My two little ones (3.5 and 5.5) are insteon masters. Show them once which button to press and they have it.
  11. I use a float switch in the koi pond connected to an io linc to alert us if the water level gets low. If so, the pump, which is connected to an io linc gets turned off. Opposite of what you want, but an option.
  12. I have ordered custom buttons many times and have never seen such a disparity in the color. This is usually less noticble. Sometime the text is a little different. Here is a pic, if it posts, and the SPOT LIGHTS button is custom I believe. Compare it to the night and all off buttons and you can see the difference in the text. Color is a bit difficult to tell in this photo but is pretty good. This thread is officially hijacked. There is another thread on custom buttons with an unhappy customer.
  13. The dim button is from the 50 button pack. B is obviously the original B. TV POWER and the PLAY/PAUSE are two of the buttons I just received. All of the buttons are off in the photo. Thinking about asking for them to be remade.
  14. The last set of custom buttons I received 2 weeks ago are not good. Almost appear to have a greenish hue to them, very noticeably different from the buttons from the 50button pack. They DIY buttons I replaced were actually better.
  15. Hobbies can be expensive. I already have a switchlinc in the pantry and should receive my second motion sensor tomorrow. I'll set it up so when you walk in the pantry, lights turn on. For me for about $75 that is worth while, and mirrors the laundry room set up, although I have a Kpl in there so it cost a bit more. Sure you could just hit the switch or an in wall motion sensor switch could be used but what fun would that be. Changing out switches, learning about wiring, and trying to figure out programming logic is all part of it. Sure there can be frustration but that probably is true of any hobby. Regarding the kpls, you need to use buttons with labels, either custom, ones from the 50button pack, or make your own. I like the way the kpls look, especially when combined with a screw less cover. If I had a room with lights and one lamp I would use a 6 button Kpl. Assign a secondary button for the lamp, one button for all off, maybe one for a scene with dimmed lights, and one left over. I think for any home lighting or automation system there is going to be limited to no ROI. Potentially it would be a net negative. So if you are looking for home improvements to increase your homes value, hardwoods are going to be a much better investment than some switches. I think you had posted about asking for and receiving light switches for Christmas. I read that out loud to my wife. When a package arrives here from smarthome I do get excited, my wife and children not so much. If you decide to ditch your gear you will not have any trouble unloading it. If you enjoy it, then stick with it, and grow your system slowly.
  16. If button B is off and you press it do you want it to turn anything on? If not then I would consider setting B to non toggle off. Create a scene with B as the controller and everything that you want off as a responder, with the response level set to off/ 0. Create a scene with only the B buttons as responders "B buttons" Write a program to monitor, not sure why only at night, this does not seem to need that condition. If status device x is on Or status device y is on Or status device z is on Then set scene B buttons on. If you want the night time condition If from sunset To sunrise next day And (Status device x is on Or status y is on Or status z is on ) Then set scene B buttons on So if any of the devices are on, the Bs light up. Pressing b then will turn all lights off (so B can probably B toggle, not non toggle off) If you don't want to make the scene with all responders and B as a controller then you could use a program If control B1 is off Or control B 2 is off Then Set scene x off Set scene y off I'll throw some more ideas out How about a program to run at 1am to turn everything off. Maybe a notification. If (time is 11pm to sunrise next day)and garage lights are on then notification "garage lights are on Automate it: if (time is 11pm to sunrise next day) and status garage lights are on then wait 30 minutes and run your second program then or set scene with all of the devices off. Check out this tutorial: http://www.adamsj.com/isy/basementA.htm Beauty of the isy and this forum is the flexibility and ideas to get the function you want. Eric
  17. I do have a separate folder for the leak sensors which are scattered around in different rooms.
  18. I have it set up just like Stu. I Use location in the device names
  19. I don't mind the sound of the relay at all. Regular decora switches also make a clicking sound, not as loud, when they are switched. I put leviton timers switches in our wc's, which make a clicking sound. Then again the beep of the oven timer drives me nuts.
  20. I define as scene as being on if all members are at the scene defined levels. For some members this means off. We have two scenes, dining and night, in the great room that I use monitoring programs for. The 4 Kpl buttons that control the two scenes are turned on and off depending upon whether the scene is "on or off". This is controlled by monitoring programs. Attributes are the same for the Kpl buttons and isy. There are 6 lights that should be on and 2 off for the dining scene. It is nice to be able to look at the Kpl button to see if the scene is on or not. For the most part this is all very simple for my wife. She uses the buttons for those two scenes and the all off.
  21. Jimbo, The disadvantage is that if only one light is on and you want the rest on then you would have to press the button twice. I am with the op on this one. The scene button should represent the status of the scene. The great thing about the isy is that you can use it to set up your system how you want it.
  22. Are you looking at the status of the Kpl buttons or the switchlincs. I don't think it should matter, but I would use the status of the switchlincs. I have a couple of these monitoring programs and your looks ok. Are you possibly having any communication issues.
  23. Ed, there is an isy video tutorial, easy to find with your favorite search engine that I found to be very helpful when I got started with the isy.
  24. This depends upon what you want to do. Your program covers night time but what about during the day. If you want the ms to always turn the lights on then use the scene, but set the ms to on only mode in the admin console. Scenes usually have a faster response than programs because there is direct device to device comm rather than waiting for the isy to run the program. The scene vs program questions was made in a post last week. Consensus is to use scenes when possible.
  25. Have you posted your actual programs. Right click on the program name and select copy to clipboard. In your post select the code icon and paste into the pop up box. It seems that your motion sensor is setting the variable to 1. Do you use the MS device in your first program rather than a switch. I think you could set this up another way by disabling and enabling the trigger program with the switches. I just set up my first MS which turns the laundry room lights on when you walk into the room. The MS is set to on only. If you have manual links (meaning links set up by pressing the set buttons locally rather than using the isy) you may need to reset and restore your devices.
