  1. I owe all of you who have tried to help me an apology. After deleting all the scenes I did a careful review of my procedures and found that I had been doing the factory reset of the KPLs incorrectly. I had not deleted them from the ISY before the reset and then link them with the ISY. After I had done that correctly and rewritten the scenes all worked perfectly. I am unaccustomed to work in an environement where such a basic error does not result in an error code and message describing the error. I trust this egregious mistake on my part will not deter your willingness to help as I will surely need it in the future. Thanks.
  2. Yesterday evening I checked on the KPL before I went to bed and the LEDs were on! I don't have a clue why. However, as soon as I pressed a button to run a simple program, the LEDs went off as before. I have erased and rewritten all scenes and programs that have anything to do with the KPL and the problem persists. And, yes, I have rebooted the ISY. I must conclude at this point that the KPL is defective. I will see if it is under warranty and, in any case, I will replace it to see if that is the problem. I love the ISY and Insteon but days of frustrating work such as this is more than just unpleasant. Thanks for your help.
  3. I have done that dozens of times. As I noted above , I am now stumped at what appears to be 3-way circuit linking issue.
  4. Removed a scene from the Family Room KPL by removing that button from a scene where it and button on the MBR KPL were both controllers. I then deleted that scene from the ISY. The LEDs on the Family Room KPL are now displaying properly. I then moved to the MBR KPL and found that its On/Off buttons on the KPL no longer controlled the overhead light which is in a 3-way circuit with a ToggleLinc. That function has worked perfectly for more than a year until today. I have worked on that problem for hours. I created a scene linking the ToggleLinc and MBR KPL button 1 with both as controllers. Still didn't work. I did a factory reset of the MBR KPL and the ToggleLinc--no success. I deleted both devices from the ISY, relinked them and recreated the scene with both as controllers--no success. I get the message that ISY cannot communicate with MBR KPL 1. I have queried, written updates, and restored the devices--same outcome. Am I making a mistake with the scene linking both devices as ccontrollers? Throughout all of this the ToggleLinc has turned the light on and off successfully. The ISY shows the MBR KPL 1 can be turned on and off in the admin console but that change does not get made at the light. I think it is a linking issue for a 3-way circuit that I am getting wrong. Your help will be appreciated.
  5. Techman: All 5 LEDS cease to work. They ate set at 15 on and 7 off. Teken: It isn't a program; it's a scene controlled by buttons at two KPLs. I will delete the scene and see what happens.
  6. Techman: I did a factory reset but the problem with the LEDS persists. I have a scene where the Master Bedroom KPLA and the Family Room KPLA both are controllers; two lights are responders. When I tap either of these KPL buttons the scene runs as designed. However, all the LED lights on the Family Room KPL go to their zero setting. I can reset the Family Room KPL LED settings from the Admin Console but the next time I run the scene from the Family Room KPL the LEDS go out. The scene executes perfectly at the Master Bedroom and the LEDS remain lit.
  7. I started doing some programming today and the LEDS on one of my KPLs started turning off when certain buttons were pressed. I could reset the LEDS but they would all go off again. The buttons continued to work but the LEDS continued turning to zero. The more I chased this problem the deeper in trouble I got. I have decided to restore my ISY using my most recent backup before I got into this mess. My question is how do I do this on my Mac. I want to be absolutely certain I know what I am doing before taking what I consider a drastic step.
  8. Thanks, Xathros. Makes sense. I have been using a Mac since 1986. How long have you been using one?
  9. I have two ISYs, the away IP for the device located remotely is manually added to the log-in for the Admin Console. Occasionally, and for no apparent reason, the away IP disappears and I have to add it again. Not a huge problem but an annoyance. Does anyone know why this occurs?
  10. Thanks to all.
  11. I do not have any dual-band devices at that location. All I have there are ToggleLincs, X-10s and two Hidden Door Sensors. I purchased all the ToggleLincs when I thought they were dual-band devices.
  12. The existing network is not coupled since everything was working fine w/o coupling until I ran into this issue.
  13. From the feedback I have concluded that the best approach is to place a 2992-222 on each leg of the electrical system with one of the two located in the outbuilding. What do you think?
  14. I have a situation where I have an outbuilding that has a 2466SW successfully controlling a light. I would like to place a hidden door sensor in that location but the RF signal is inadequate. I considered placing a 2443 Range Extender in the outbuilding but the specifications indicate an operating range of 32-104 degrees. The building is unheated and lows near zero can be expected at that location. Do any of you have a 2443 exposed to similar low temperatures without failure? Can the 2443 be used alone as a range extender or must two be used, bridging both phases of the electrical system? What about changing the 2466SW to a dual-band switch?
  15. Where is this option? Which version?
  16. LeeG: I made a mistake. During the wiring of the new device an adjacent device (one included in some scenes on the device being replaced) lost power. I didn't notice that and the replacement process was badly damaged. I ended up deleting the new device from the device tree, doing a factory reset on it and placing it into the device tree. From there I modified each of the scenes it addressed. After what seemed like far too many "write updates" I reassembled everything. I learned a valuable lesson. Check the status of all devices before you start the replacement process!
  17. I just replaced a 5-button KPL using the procedures in wiki. Following replacement, the Admin Console shut down automatically. I rebooted it and the new KPL buttons had appeared with a green icon adjacent to them. I queried the first button and got red apostrophes adjacent to all the buttons. Each of the former buttons in the device tree (those that existed for the deveice that was replaced) had a green icon as well. I queried one of those and it changed to a red apostrophe. Before proceeding further I seek your help.
  18. I am a relatively new convert to the ISY and, yes, there is a learning curve. However, my only regret is that I did not make the change long ago.
  19. Couldn't wait. The device linked on the first try. I can't believe I didn't catch that problem. My sincere thanks to you guys. It is a quirky little device. Red exclamation points that must be resolved. Followed by gray icons that likewise must be resolved. Definitely could benefit from improved ease of istallation/use. I am almost 70 years old now and this experience has definitely aged me more! : )
  20. Both are now 4.2.16. I have no idea how 4.0.5 showed up because I had previosly linked a door sensor on my other ISY!!! Weird! I will test linking tomorrow morning and report.

  23. I am now at the location of my second ISY. I tried linking a door sensor at this location using the following procedure: 1. Placed the Door Sensor within a foot of the PLM (2413S). 2. Link Management>Sensors>Hidden Door Sensors>Remove Existing Links 3. Pressed and held the Set Botton on the Door Sensor until it beeped and the Status LED flashed green 4. Typed in the Door Sensor ID (2C.71.9A) and its Name; clicked OK 5. Get the message "Cannot add Insteon device". I have never struggled with any device the way I have with the door sensor! I am near giving up. Mac OS 10.9.5 Browser: Firefox 32.0.3 ISY 994i Firmware: 4.2.10
  24. Thanks for the informative feedback. I will be leaving the area for the next couple of weeks. I will get back to this as soon as I return.
  25. stusviews: I am not certain what you mean. I have done the 4-tap on each of the in-house access points and one of those does nothing for the one in the garage. The other makes the one the garage start flashing red. If I reverse the process and 4-tap the one in the garage I get flashing red on one of the access points in the house. If I simply plug in the access point in the garage its LED does not light.
