There is some comparison with what happened between (Apple's) Mac and (MS') Windows. MS opened Windows to other manufacturers and MAC did not. Many considered, at least at the time, that MAC was better than Windows, but the latter became the bigger success. @lilyoyo1 (and others) consider that Insteon is the better system, but Zwave is growing more.

Though I am a few years younger than you, I share your concerns on there to be nobody in my family to maintain (or even wanting to understand) my home automation. The only thing I could think of was to post UDI's phone and email in our kitchen That would be my last posthumous contact with UDI...... hopefully many years away.
  3. I recommend the ISY Inventory nodeserver which shows you the number of your nodes.

    No sharing here ?

    Maybe after tonight's Powerball ?

I think that is the point and yes, if I were to start a new home then I would also consider C4, though I enjoy "playing" with it myself and C4 is for professional installation and maintenance.

I doubt that any of us can predict the future. 40 years ago we believed (The Jetsons) that by 2000 we would all use flying cars. What I have noticed over the years in this forum is that in most cases Insteon users are happy with Insteon and Zwave users are happy with Zwave, and even those uses a mix are happy as well. ISY is a big factor in this. I would personally put a question mark on Insteon's future and Zwave will remain fragmented if the Zwave Alliance does not impose a greater functional similarity on manufacturers. My "Jetson" bet is that both Insteon or Zwave will be Yahoos in 5 to 10 years. You should have a look at Inovelli. As I said, their performance is not always 100 % but some of their devices are useful and generally Inovelli is cheaper. I have a special situation in my home where the switch box is in a concrete wall with no space for a smart switch. Inovelli's switches allow me to keep the old non-smart switch and connect it in the existing 3-way setup. I also have one switch box where it is impossible to run a Neutral wire (unless I break open the wall) and a new Inovelli switch lets me connect the light to ISY without the Neutral.

Can someone skip ahead 5 years and let us know what has become of Insteon and Zwave ? Something made them both obsolete ?

The internet exists up north ? Seriously, Inovelli is creative and I find some of their devices useful, but their performance is not always 100 %.

    Your " IMHO " ?

I understand your search for perfection ! 2 seconds means not much to me ?

Zwave is not perfect. @lilyoyo1 and I amicably disagree on the pros & cons of having one manufacturer (Insteon) vs many manufacturers (Zwave), but he is right that some Zwave brands are better than others. I have some 80 Zwave devices, including many switches and I have learned that GE/Jasco and Homeseer are the better ones. Sometimes I use Inovelli because they are innovative. However, Inovelli is a good example of the negative of Zwave.... To include or exclude a device, with most brands 1 click is enough, but Inovelli requires 6 quick clicks and that can go wrong easily. This being said, newer Zwave devices now have auto-include. I think that the maximum number of devices that I have in a group program is about 10, and sometimes these take more than 2 seconds, but my strong suspicion is that this is because about 4 of these devices are still old pre Zwave Plus. Eventually I will replace these. Years ago I started with X10 and then added Insteon. When the PLM blew, I made the choice of going entirely to Zwave and do not regret this choice. But would I start from zero today, then I would research alternatives as discussed by others here. With Polisy and nodeservers, we now have many options. Just to play around I have added some Lifx and Kasa devices and they all work fine with ISY and Polisy.

I understand that other systems (ex: Insteon) are faster because they are grouped directly, but, being Zwave all the way, I have programs that group lights to go ON or OFF at same time. There may be a one second delay (maybe 2 seconds sometimes), but it is no issue for me.
  14. As often happens, I learned something from @lilyoyo1 This being said, I put my "unknown" nodes in a separate folder for just in case.
  15. BTW, as a big user of Zwave (close to 90 in my home) I find the GE/Jasco and Homeseer devices as most reliable. Some Inovelli devices have innovative functions that can be useful in some specific settings, but overal GE/Jasco and Homeseer are the better Zwave devices.
  16. Right click on the device and then click on "Zwave". Then you will see "Update Neighbor" at the top.
  17. I noticed online that this is a Zwave Plus switch so it should be reporting the status to your ISY. I have no idea why it does not, especially as the switch responds to ISY commands. If this would happen in my setup, then I would first try "update neighbors" and if that does not work, then I would exclude the switch and then include again. Let us know how the various options work for you.
  18. I had no serious issues with my updates (and I am exclusively Zwave) , but basically I went step-by-step upgrading every time there was an update and not going straight from 4.X to 5.3. Some times with small steps you go faster than with big ones ?
  19. I usually never use Mobilinc on my Apple Watch but I just checked and it seems to work fine.
  20. I use Mobilinc Pro and my Iphone is also at 14.3 and I have no issues (so far). This being said, I now mostly use Home Assistant and if Mobilinc would stop working I would get over it.
  21. You should be able to achieve this with a program. Let's assume you want the on-level to be 30 % : IF ZW XXX is switched ON (manually switched ON) THEN Set ZW XXX to 30 %
  22. Understood. BTW I only use Home Assistant as front for ISY, and all my programs / automation remain on ISY, which is way more powerful for automation. You are not alone having an issue with subscriptions, but personally I dont mind the $5/mo for Home Assistant. I purchased the full Mobilinc Pro and X (one payment/ no subscription) and I have made good use out of Mobilinc Pro. As mentioned before, purchasing X was a mistake.
  23. I have the 500 series Zwave card, use 5.3.1 and have Mobilinc Pro as well as Mobilinc X. I have been very disappointed by Mobilinc X and have not used it since a few days after purchasing it. I find Mobilinc Pro far more practical. To answer your question, I just tried both Mobilinc Pro and X. The latter (Mobilinc X) sees all my devices but did not respond to ON / OFF. Mobilinc Pro works. HOWEVER, since about a month I have been using Home Assistant on a RPi and also subscribe to their $5/mo out-of-network access App, and now I hardly use Mobilinc anymore, because Home Assistant and its app are more convenient than Mobilinc.
  24. As I said, everything works fine, but my (small) concern is why the update neighbors does not work. I actually believe that something is wrong with the switch as I had issues with it yesterday. That is why I removed it from my ISY and re-added it. If it gives me new issues, I may just replace it.
