I am not sure to understand but I just verified the following : I have a program like IF light A is switched (Control) On THEN light B is On With this program, when in the Administrative Console, I turn light A on, then light B does NOT go On. Light B only goes On when I manually click the switch A up. That how it is by design and how I want it. If I would have wanted light B to go On whenever light A is set On (whether from the switch or in the AC), then the program should have been : IF light A Status is On THEN light B is On That is how I see the difference between Status and Control
-
My use of Status vs Control has been that Control is when the switch is manually pressed, while Status includes a change (or current reading) whether manual or in the Administrative Console (program or clicking on the node). Am I wrong ?
-
I agree and it would also be nice if favorites page could show % of lights On in each folder that I have in my UD Mobile. It is, for me, the only thing missing in this very nice App.

Need help with Control and Status with Zooz Dimmer and 5.0.16C
asbril replied to xlurkr's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
Smart ? -
It should as long as the status is properly reported to your ISY. I use the switch for something similar. The top dimmer is (wired) connected to the kitchen fan light and I have a separate fan switch for the fan. The lower on/off part is "virtual" to control my balcony lights. When my condo was built, there were not supposed to be ceiling lights on the balconies, but they added these at my special request, but then they forgot to add a switch to control those lights (dumb !). So I put Zwave receptacles and control the lights with ISY programs. For the balcony near the kitchen I use the bottom part of the Zooz switch. BTW those receptacles are no longer made, so soon I will replace them with Zwave bulbs.

What is your objective ? Maybe it can work with IF Status is ON ?

I am not an expert at this ( I am really not an expert at anything ), but try with adding the basic node : right click on switch in your Administrative Console and add Basic control, and then try to use that as trigger in your program.

One solution for status update for the dimmer is to create a program that queries every so often. with Zwave Plus it should not be necessary, and in my case the status update is automatic, but a query program, even as a temporary solution, works well. If not mistaken, you don't have that many Zwave devices, so a query program should not over load your ISY. I have a few old Zwave switches that don't give status update and I created 2 programs; one for switches that are used all day, and these are queried every 30 minutes and one program for switches that are only used at night, and therefore the query programs runs every 30 minutes from sunset to next sunrise. All together, they are about 10 (old) switches and the query is not an issue. If you only do it for very few switches, then you could even do the query every minute. BTW your picture shows a professional installation. Bravo.

Tom, your analysis makes much sense

I am pretty sure that I installed this switch after upgrading to the 500 series dongle. The switch is almost furthest from my ISY, but I have a strong Zwave mesh network. I suggest that you try to the add the switch close to your ISY (*) and if that works, then move to the desired location. (**). (*) I put together a "portable" switch box connected to a plug, and I use this connect new switches near my ISY, before moving to desired location. If "include" does not work, then try first an "exclude". (**) If you only have a few Zwave devices and are concerned about the signal not reaching your switch, then gen a few Zwave plug-in devices that you put along the route between your ISY and the switch. Non-battery Zwave devices will repeat the signal.

@robandcathy1 Sorry if I came over that way, because that was not at all my intention. This forum has been enormously helpful to me as I am far less techie as most here. With all the help that I have received here and continue to receive, I can only reciprocate and help anyone within my limited knowledge. I have learned a lot in the past almost 7 years being exclusively Zwave with more than 80 devices. If I can be helpful with anything, then please don't hesitate to ask.
-
My understanding is that the dongle ("Zwave" - "Backup") backs up on itself or on the sd card, while your programs, scenes etc ("File" ISY backup" back up on your chosen computer location.
-
This is well known among Zwave users. The first thing I think of when I can not add a new Zwave device, is to remove it.
-
Seriously, it must be something else because I don't remember ever having had this issue.
-
I seem to have mis-read the previous comments. I was referring to Chrome having issues with the forum page. Next time, I should do a better job at reading comments This being said, I have 5 GH devices (as well as several Alexa), and I have no problems with the ISY connection.

I have had the same experience several times over the past few days. Generally "reload" resolves the issue

@Techmanmay be more knowledgeable than I am and he could be right that repeaters are more powerful than plug-in devices. However, I still recommend to use plugin devices. The Zwave mesh network operates better with the more Zwave devices you have. So, unless $$ is a real issue, get a few plug-in devices along the route of your most distant device and you will have a good mesh network and also add more controls to your home automation. I started with two of these Aeotec repeaters, but pretty soon replaced them with wall switches and plugin devices. I now have more than 80 Zwave devices in my home, plus a few Kasa and Llyf devices, and my mesh network basically controls my whole home. The only communication I sometimes have come from battery operated sensors and from Inovelli switches. These Inovelli switches serve a purpose (in one case where I do not have a neutral in the switch box, and in another 3-way situation where an auxiliary switch does not fit in the concrete wall) and therefore I keep these. But normally I stick to Homeseer and GE/Jasco switches.

@Techman I have made this comment many times and will repeat it here again. Rather than buying repeaters, get plug-in devices (example). Because all new non-battery Zwave devices act as repeaters, you score double by using a plug-in device. It will repeat and you can control a lamp or something else at the same time.

After the update to 0.1.4

I forgot where to send issues, so I am doing it here. While clicking on Manage Modules a first time I got the attached error message and a little later the App crashed. The second time I did not get an error message.

and another article ("Morning Brew") confirming @lilyoyo1's point on chip shortage : "... We’ve faced a number of shortages over the past year—toilet paper, GrapeNuts, joy. But one shortage continues to stand above the rest in its ability to damage the global economy: semiconductors. Senior execs from almost 20 companies are heading to the White House today to discuss the current chip shortage and ensure more supply chain chaos doesn’t break out in the future. The roster includes leaders of Ford, Intel, and Alphabet, highlighting how a tiny piece of technology is critical for the everyday operations of a wide range of industries. How did this start? As the world went into hibernation in spring 2020, manufacturers called up their chip suppliers and said, “Welp, looks like we won’t be needing much of your stuff in the near future.” But the economic crisis took a very different shape than originally projected, and demand, instead of dipping...spiked. People loaded up on electronics as they worked/studied/gamed at home. Flush with stimulus checks and wary of public transportation, Americans kept buying cars. But because they dramatically lowered their chip orders, car manufacturers were stuck making jigsaw puzzles with a missing piece. You can’t put 100% of the blame on Covid. That wild weather in Texas and other factory hiccups also knocked out chip production, compounding the problem. But it’s a big problem The chip shortage has affected “virtually every major car company in recent months,” according to the WSJ, forcing automakers to halt production of their most popular cars. Both GM and Ford said the shortage could knock profits by at least $2 billion. Sony said the chip shortage is the reason why there are so few PS5s available. .."

Just a suggestion and it could be any time. If someone in your home chooses to switch Light X OFF, for whatever reason, then why would you want it to go ON immediately, rather than wait a set time ?
-
Maybe you try to achieve something like this ? It means that if Light X is switched OFF manually any time between sunset and next day sunrise , then it is set ON after 2 minutes. IF From sunset to sunrise (next day) And Light X is switched OFF THEN WAIT 2 minutes Set Light X to ON
