Thanks TJF1960. I rewrote as follows, is this right? I see the actual wording is a bit different than you quoted in your post... If Time is 7:00:00AM And Folder 'AWAY' is True Then Send Notification to 'ME' Wait 10 seconds Run Program 'Alive Away' (Else Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

I have a simple program that (should) alert me daily as to ISY's heartbeat. When I leave my house in the "AWAY" mode, I get a notification the first day or two. Then it never sends again unless there is a power cycle or I physically set it as "HOME". I have used the 30 second interval only to eliminate multiple sends a day. Maybe that is the problem? All I want is for ISY to evaluate the "AWAY" or "HOME folder once daily and to determine its validity. I know that isn't fool-proof either as it really doesn't tell me wheter the "AWAY" items are actually running. I'm open to any ideas. Thanks. Here is the program. If From 7:00:00AM To 7:00:30AM (same day) And Folder 'AWAY' is True Then Send Notification to 'ME' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Maybe a thread here for you "high end" programers to post just how you have used "Variables". Us not so savvy users are a bit stumped by the option. Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll get some great ideas. aLf

jkraus: Do you have a phone line there? http://www.freezealert.com/freeze_alarm_products.htm I use a device called a "Freeze Alarm". It works perfect with two thermostats. #1 is left on the "away temp", say 55. #2 is left on say 70. Just call and you can switch therm 1 to therm 2. I have given great thought to using an Insteon therm. My only concern is the lack of control during power outages, i.e., the network does not come back up. My phone line always comes up and the furnace/therm(s) always are up. In addition the Freeze Alarm wil call you with status problems. To date, I can't sign up for the Insteon way yet. I can't even get rid of the old phone company in favor of Ooma of VoIP for the same reasons. Oh and as a ultimate backup, I use a webcam that has a thermometer in veiw for a "hard" temperature. As always if the Insteon thermostat crowd has history that will calm my "network" fears, please chime in. I'd love the Insteon therm, just afraid of opening myself up for more problems. aLf

So how do you you get a certificate and how uch do they cost? aLf

(Michel). I wasn't by any means "selling" DrayTek. I was selling what I thought i knew about VPN. I believe many inexpensive routers also boast a VPN, I think. I have been blocked in hotels by firewalls that would not allow coomunication to some things, ISY one of them. After setting up a VPN, I have not been blocked for awhile. Only a thought. aLf

(Michel) Why wont a VPN work?
-
Have you tried using a VPN from work? If for some reason I run into blocks, I just log into my home router (via VPN) and I have access to anything I have access to at home. I use DrayTek routers---bulletproof. aLf

Tried the folders thing and it couldn't get it to work. Anybody who can help "design" this, please help out. Here is my hope... SW 1 & SW 2. Want them to come on between 11/1/10 and 1/31/11, at times 05:00AM to 7:00AM, then again between sunset and 10:35PM (sameday). (Christmas Lights). I've always liked the setup that will force the SW to go back on should someone turn it off (IF SW1 is OFF, turn it ON). I was hoping to have the entire days schedule in one program. But whatever the best way to skin the cat, I'm very appreciative. Thanks, aLf

I'm getting a continuous loop On then OFF trying to do a simple program. What I'm trying to do is... Outlet ON at sunset Lanterns on at sunset I'd like ISY to watch over the program similar to this. But the parenthasis thing seems to make it loop. IF time is between sunset and 10:30 PM same day and outlet is OFF or lantern is OFF Then turn outlet ON and turn lantern ON If I can get this to work, I can do the opposite for the time between 10:30 PM and sunset the following day for the "forced" OFF call. I know this is basic to you guys, I appreciate the help. aLf

A simple search for Basement Watchdog will bring you to even more peace of mind. Made in Lincolshire Illinois, they are a fool proof back-up. I know this is kind of off topic, but I'd rather have the Big-Dog model start pumping on its own anytime over an e-mail from ISY. The only drawback I have with them is that you have a lead/acid battery in the house. And yes, it requires maintenance (water level) three to four times a year. http://www.basementwatchdog.com/ Also have one of these. http://www.freezealert.com/freeze_alarm_products.htm#ALARM They work beautiful. I've had one for years to turn the thermostat on and off. Now with the Insteon thermostats, I have given some thought to dropping it for the Insteon way. With Freeze Alarm you only can switch between two therms, with Insteon you monitor the entire HVAC. I just wish I trusted the Insteon/network more. The reason I posted the Freeze Alarm is that they offer a moisture sensor. http://www.freezealert.com/motion-sensor-alarm.htm I'm sure that this would work with an IO linc. aLf PS. You guys who have the Insteon thermostats, can you help make my mind more open to the Insteon thermostat change-over!

I am in the process of changing out 30+ dimmers due to paddle problems. I am surveying my network and I'm giving thought to changing some (mainly wife) "always on or off" dimmers to relays. I know the difference (as far as using them), but I wonder if I'm making a mistake tying my hands with a relay when the dimmer is so much more usable? Is there any "mechanical" reliability issue that makes the relay better, or is the dimmer always out ahead with its flexability? Also does anyone else have any history with SH as to the REV#'s that are covered in warranty? Thanks, aLf

Nathan: Unplug each item that may have electrical noise. In my system it was a flat screen TV and the Maytag Washer. A simple filter on each made all the difference. aLf

Nathan: 1) I use Panasonic. A gentleman on this forum (still waiting for him to post the code here for others) wrote some code for me that allows me to push a KPL button (triggers ISY's network module) then sends CGI Transfer code over the net to arm/disarm my cameras. I have a HOME/AWAY program written in my ISY which does a ton of stuff for me when home or away. When I switch modes, the cameras (many) arm and disarm, thus eliminating easily 15 minutes of time and headache. In essence, anything the camera is capable of can be controlled by ISY. 2) Not sure why this is a deal breaker for you, just another plug! 3) Experiment with another NTP site, there are 100's, might just be a no good site? Hope this helps, aLf

Nathan: Welcome. I won't try to explain the linking functions, others here with WAY MORE experience and will chime in I'm sure. I will though make some comments on your bullets... 1) ISY-26 served me well for years. In my small (35 device) setup it worked very well. I upgraded mainly for the network module (so I could interact via the net to cameras and other things. UDI will probably cut back on support via firmware I'm sure at some time. 2) The old PLM's powered through the ethernet cable, the new version that I just installed does not power my 99, it is again powered through its own wall plug. I have had much better performance (and reliability) from the new PLM. My memory is short, but I believe the 26 never was powered through a PLM 3) If NTP is not working I would suggest that you visit the WIKI and double-check your router settings and the IP assignment within your 26. It sounds like your not on the net. (Can you access ISY remotely?) Good luck, this device has made my system what Smarthome always wanted Insteon to be. aLf

Mark: I actually bought the MobiLiinc app and it works perfect for my needs. To date there has been no problems. aLf

JK: Do you have just the latest backup, or do you have the history of backups? Maybe try the second to last and see how that goes (last one corrupt?). I can't answer this, but are backups from previous version able to backup to the latest firmware? i.e., a backup from 2.7.5...... restored to 2.7.15.... (Michel)? aLf
-
JK: Are you logging in via the 192 or the https: address? Try logging in via the 192 address (as you probably are with MobiLinc). If you get in via that, do your updates and then get back to the forum as to your "INTERNET" settings. My guess is that something on the net side is mis-configured. aLf

Man it's a couple years old and I make it sound like it's pre-historic! I've got my original ISY 26. I know that it has some limitations. I thought maybe we could get a thread going on useful ways to utilize it and make it feel worthy again---with or without Insteon or X10 products on the network or in the house. Has anyone found a good use for it? aLf
-
Maybe a dumb question, but how do you run an X10 only device, i.e., Smarthome X10 dimmer or X10 appliance sw. from ISY. aLf
-
Question One... Can a scene, i.e., (two KPL Buttons & an APL) be included somehow in an "ALL OFF" program? Currnetly I have all Insteon Sw's turn off every hour in an ALL OFF scene when away. I have the APL included, but the two KPL Buttons stay on (if they were on). How can I include them for turn off in that scene? Second question... If the ALL OFF scene is on (everything off), then I come home and tell ISY I'm home. I have a couple scenes which run when I'm home that do not run if after the scheduled time. Example, gate outlets should be ON @ 0700 if HOME. Lets say I get home at 0830 and tell ISY I'm home. The gate outlets stay off until the next day at 0700. How do I work around this? aLf

Mark: Ditto on the hassle. Could you post for the rest of us the link to the email. I've had some issues and would like to follow up as well. aLf

mvgossman: I use Panasonic cameras on my router/network that also includes ISY 99. I have models BB-HCM531, 581, 735, 511, 110. They all work flawless with Insteon/ISY. I did have to buy a bit better router (went with DrayTek) and use a Linksys switch for added Ethernet ports. I use (thanks to Burak and Michel) a code through the Network Module that runs some basic camera functions from Insteon switch status. I have had no issues with their living together in the network. Panasonic has a bunch of different cameras available. Feel free to PM me and I'll give you as much info as I can. Here is a link to Panasonics webpage that will get you started: http://netcamdealer.com/ Check out specifically the "resources" section. You'll certainly want indoor and outdoor models. Here is a great place to buy them: http://www.securityideas.com/pantineca.html Ask for Brian. He is VERY knowledgeable. Again, I'll be happy to help in any way I can. aLf

Ober: The "AWAY" folder is simple. Within it is a simple program that turns every off every hour. It allows (forces) two INL's to not come on in the periphery of my property. The "AWAY" folder is controlled by an Appliance linc which is in a scene with (2) KPL buttons. Upon leaving I turn off either KPL button which in turn extinguishes the APL=Program AWAY (True). I then use the program I stated above. And yes, you are right after the first day of being AWAY at 0700 the program went TRUE and stayed TRUE---never to send an e-mail again. I'm not sure if my methodology is the best, but because of many power outages and the fact that "sometimes" ISY does not come back on the network, it was a simple way to at least hear from ISY once a day. If anyone has a better idea or a more robust program, I'm listening. aLf

Ober: If I leave the program as it was starting this thread. If Time is 7:00:00AM And Folder 'AWAY' is True Then Send Notification to 'aLf' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') At 0700 on the very first day (after I make the AWAY folder true). The Notification comes but the program will never run again. I then changed it to: If Time is From 7:00:00AM To 7:01:00AM And Folder 'AWAY' is True Then Send Notification to 'aLf' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Then the programs runs every day as it should. aLf
