    EZX10RF

Michel This is strange, all of the keys except #1 tonight report on/off correctly. Key #1 does not although key #1 and the rest of the keys look OK in even viewer and control the scenes correctly (I swear teh on/off status did NOT work last night) One other thing I forgot to mention is that the Key#1 errors message when ever I open the ISY admin console says something like "cannot communicate with EZX10RF 1" or something like that , and there is an exclamation point instead of the control icon. OK, so some communication problem, but they all work OK in the scenes despite this error message (even key#1) Joe
  2. Hi IndyMike I cant be of any help as my one an only sensor has been installed for a few months on it's first battery. Having moved form X10 I second your comments on reliability. However, My X10 Hawkeyes' would last years (at least two), so now you have me concerned with your "multiple batteries in 4 months". Even being in a high traffic area (mine is not) this seems very excessive. Joe

Michel , No, I have not, will give the event viewer a try. I did check the status of the buttons outside of the scenes (actually both) but neither change status despite the scene working OK. You cautioned me about the support level for EZX10RF, so I don't want to complain at all. I will check the event viewer as you suggested, but if it is the same problem as other EZ devices, I am not sure I will make progress beyond you experts The scenes works OK, so I guess not the biggest issue. EZX10RF

now when I look that any of the link status when switching off/on with my X10 palmpad, they do not change status, despite the scenes they are linked to working fine. This is interesting, because when I installed each of 16 links I tested everyone of them and the status changed just fine. I did this before I added them to scenes so that I was assured they would work (which they do). I know there is a later firmware (I am still at 2.70), but it specifically does not include the EZX10 in the firmware fixes description. Would that help?
  5. got it, thanks! Yes, I know hex, but did not get your drift until I read it several times, but your "translation table" makes it even easier, I will try tonight. Thanks! Joe
  6. OH, maybe I see, you are saying in your example it would be 1F Hex, which would be 31 decimal, correct?
  7. thanks, but you lost me a bit going back and forth between decimal and hex. The controls are in decimal and I think you are giving me the translation, but can't say I completely got what you are saying, sorry. I can't get to your conclusion : "With this information, it's possible to gain some finer control over both backlight and ON brightness levels. For example, dimmest non-off backlight, combined with brightest available ON level for that backlight, would mean using a value of 31. "
  8. Hi, I think there are some improvements in the amount of control of the KPL LED brightness in Beta versions, as I am at the official 2.70. I think 2.75 is out shortly so I will wait, but my basic question is what does it mean to have a range for example of 1-63? Is this for the off state or the on state or a relative number of the difference in the two state, as I only have seen one level for the setting in the ISY?

    EZX10RF

Yup, once you figure out the strange way to program it works great! Got 16 codes programmed and working! Joe

12 scenes? Can you give me a little programming example? Also, more work with the EZx10RF and I think I am getting it working. Have 5 codes now linked and seems to be working pretty good with a PalmPad and coverage is most of he house with pretty instant on due to it being Insteon transmitted rather than X10 Will keep you informed but crossing my fingers, seems to be now going pretty well. EZX10RF

Hi MIke, I understand how to do that with programs, but do you have a program for evry code you use? What about brite and Dim, more programs for each one? Seems like it would be a lot, or is there some trick around the brite/dim? Joe

    EZX10RF

Well, you were right to caution me. While I got the first 3 codes to work, after that further codes just did not seem to work in the scenes. I am not prone to spend a lot of time on this, just wanted a controller that had more than 6 buttons. Anyone at UDI hears of something coming from SH? The RL is nice, but very sensitive to triggering (just picking it up you can brush some of the buttons and they trigger) along with the limited 6 buttons. Thanks Joe

    EZX10RF

Thanks! "The devil is in the details", but you have made it clear enough to get started. Since I have RemoteLincs to do the control today, this is a "non-mission critical" project, so I should have some fun playing with it. Thanks Joe

    EZX10RF

Hi Michel Maybe I do not totally understand the concept, so sorry for that. But why would someone want to add an X10 device? Is not the idea to control Insteopn devices (Which I am now 95% converted to) with X10 controllers i.e. in my case a PalmPad. I am not sure how to get started, but I will receive the EZX10RF today, so perhaps it will become obvious after that. Since I will receive it today, I assume it will be the latest firmware. One simple question. Is it "better" to assigning X10 addresses to Insteon devices or set up the EZX10RF to translate to the device's Insteon address by linking it. If the latter, do I do that "outside" of the ISY environment? Again, a little confused how to start Joe

    EZX10RF

Hi I asked about a month ago if the ISY supports the EZX10RF, and the answer was something like "not officially". I did not pursue then, but now have a EZX10RF on order and wasn't sure what "officially" meant. More specifically, can I link the EZX10RF to the ISY? I know that I can link the EZX10 to devices directly, but can I use X10 Palmpad to control a scene created in the ISY via the EZX10RF? Thx Joe

    Link Question

Thanks Rand, OK, make sense. I went ahead and added them while in my office. I mention that because I had a somewhat dead spot and recently added another AP to my office, so it may be why this time it did not take "forever", but still on the order of 3-4 minutes, perhaps that is normal. BTW they are not all responder, in fact 5/6 are controllers if that that makes a difference i.e. only one responder in this scene. Thanks Joe
  17. jkraus

    Link Question

OK, just seemed that if were making no change to the RL i.e. they are only controllers not responders (can an RLs ever be a responder?), they would not be involved in adding another controller (the 3rd KPL) to the scene. When my scene is even moderately large (6 devices are so) the link process takes forever, especially for the RLs

    Link Question

for example: Let's say I have a scene that is controlled by 2 different RL (each button A) and two different KPLs (each button A) and I want to add a 3rd KPL (say button A). Do I really need to go chasing my RLs down and set them to link mode? Can't I just add the new KPL to the scene?
  19. Anyone know if SH supplies the Remotelinc plastic label covers, keep losing mine
  20. Certainly no expert here, but the problem sounds vaguely familiar to my problem I had that when exiting the RL linking mode I pressed one of the key buttons, and this caused all sorts of problems. I was instructed to hit the "Dim" button on the RL to exit linking and it solved my problem. Hope that may help Joe

    KPL LED Off

Perfect! Thanks. I had basically came to the same conclusion by trial and error, just was not sure that I was missing something more obvious. Thanks again Joe
  22. jkraus

    KPL LED Off

sorry for my inexperience, but the only wayI see to turn off the KPL LED is to add the KPL button to a scene then turn off that scene at the end of the then path or the else path. Is that what you mean?
  23. jkraus

    KPL LED Off

I naively thought when the program was done the KPL light would turn off. Now I have created a scene for the KPL button and in the program's else command I turn that scene off. Is that the best way?
  24. well you say so, but I purchased TouchSwitch yesterday and have yet have not received any email with the program or instruction to download it, much less any coupon Joe
  25. Thanks!
