One is an accident. Two is a habit. Three is an obsession. -Tom

I actually thought about doing this. If you linked a remote directly to it, not through the ISY, it would be useful. I needed a solution my wife could do in my absence, and after trying "Install this app on your phone just so you can reboot the ISY with this WiFi relay, and that's all it's for" and hearing "I'm not going to do that", it occurred to me that she's comfortable using the Insteon remotes, so I'd have more luck dedicating one for this purpose. But that's expensive, and I'm lazy, so I never implemented such a reboot solution. or any other for that matter. Instead, I make her get on a ladder and power cycle it if I think that will fix whatever problem she's having. Which it never does, btw. It's always something else. -Tom

MMDV (My Mileage Does Vary?) My wife LOVES the voice commands. I prefer buttons, esp. when they do more than one thing (like pause DVR = turn light on dim, play = turn lights off). I think it's still hard to get the voice assistants to do multiple actions like this, but honestly I haven't looked into it a lot. And, like many, I prefer cloud independence. -Tom

No, I haven't, and I haven't made changes to the MSC programming in years. I still have the XP laptop and software, so I should be able to, but who knows when it will fail to run one day. I got lucky and was able to download and install the Total Control software before they locked it down, and I've been using those remotes and controllers ever since. I'm note sure whose fully programmable remotes and controllers a DIYer could start with or move to today. If RemoteCentral is still active, maybe you could find out over there. -Tom

I've used MX-980 remotes mostly, with some KP-900s. The KPs eat batteries fast, so I only have a few in key places to pause the DVR and mute and adjust the audio as needed, and leave the backlighting off. -Tom
-
I realize this might be a bit confusing. The MSC400 can be programmed to send any RS232 message you want, based on what remote key is pressed, to the serial port of the computer running CQC. It has been trained to listen for it, and issues whatever commands you define in response to receiving the right message. That can be by manipulating devices known to its ISY driver, or by REST commands to the ISY. The latter case is needed to invoke scenes on the ISY, if I remember correctly, because the driver is not scene-aware, only device-aware. Because this setup uses an RF remote, and a wired connection to CQC, it's directionless, relatively long-range, fast, and reliable. But CQC is somewhat obtuse. It's mostly mouse clicks and dialog boxes to configure it, but its vibe isn't super intuitive. -Tom

CQC = Charmed Quark Controller. Used to be pay, but is now free. It's a little like Home Assistant in its versatility, but only runs on Windows. It handles IR, serial, and IP inputs. You train it by repeating the input several times, and link the input to an action, which can be just about anything. There's an ISY driver, too, and I realized after posting that I use the driver rather than REST for ISY control for one of these routes, or both; I forget. But it's complicated. That's part of the "took me forever" story. Happy to help if you want to try it, though. -Tom

I'm using URC Complete Control RF remotes to MSC-400 base station to CQC (over RS232) to REST commands for some of my remote control of the ISY, and URC Total Control RF remotes to MRX-20 base station to REST commands for some other control. Took me forever to figure out how to program it all, but it's nice to be able to do anything, from anywhere, with a hard-button remote. -Tom

+1: I don't have access to the resources you do, and I'm switching to RA2. Or more accurately, I'm setting up RA2 in my current temporary abode, and will be taking it back to my full-time residence to convert it from Insteon over time. -Tom

Physical switch action reverse automatically

I had not heard of Simple Commands, so I looked it up. It looks like it's one of those programs that can trigger other programs that actually control things. I see the Insteon Hub on their list of compatible controllers, but not the ISY. How are you using the app to control your Insteon devices? -Tom -
FWIW, I bought a NIB Hub in a private sale just to play around with it. It wouldn't let me register it, so I contacted customer service via email and they were super responsive - and they had two people on my case! Ultimately, they didn't fix my problem though. I did. -Tom

Sorry, I mean battery powered. -Tom

I bought one of the wired ones but never installed it. Since I need 4 total, and only one location is prewired, I didn't bother. I'm still unclear from all these posts. Is there a compatible wireless model still available? -Tom
-
What model are you using? Mine reached end of life, too, but I couldn't find any that are compatible with the SmokeBridge. -Tom

Deleting with sudo appears to have worked. Thanks. -Tom

Thanks. I've attached a screencap of the directory. There's a debug.log dated the last day listed in my post above, and a debug1.log dated the first day listed above. Then there are debug-*date*-.log.gz files for several days up to today, and a debug-*date*-log file for today, which seems to conform to your description above. Should I rm debug.log and debug1.log? p.s. I have PG3, too. Where are its log files stored? -Tom

Can no one help me? I'm sure all II need to do is log in and delete a file somewhere, but I need some guidance as to which file. -Tom

My old appliancelinc of many years is no longer recognized

God, I love this forum. And UDI. I had an ApplianceLinc (AL) start acting flaky recently. Turned out that a noisy LED strip was at fault, but I removed and attempted to readd the AL during troubleshooting. I got the "engine" error when trying to add by address. Didn't try the "start linking" approach at first, but remembered this thread, and got it going eventually. But even though I could control it, it gave me the "not responding" error every time I turned it on or off. A query would return the correct state, but each subsequent on or off in the AC would cause the error to reoccur, and the exclamation point to show up next to the device. But then I remembered this thread. Again. And I reset the AL three times before attempting to readd it. Viola! It's back, 100% functional. Thanks larrylix. And also to the Best. Forum. Ever. -Tom -
My PG2 log has entries in it from 5Jan2021 to 10Apr2021. Nothing newer than that. Can someone tell me how to reset it so I can start getting new entries again? -Tom

I agree about the location. I looked for an appropriate location but couldn't find one. Please suggest one, and thanks for trying to get it to work. -Tom

I got my RA2 switch, and I added it to the Lutron app. It's working. I'm having trouble adding it to your Ra2 Select NS. I think I'm putting in the right information - integration ID is 2, and device type is 11. But when I click the "Save Changes" button, it just stays in the pushed state, and no more nodes show up - the number of nodes stays at 1. Can you get me unstuck? -Tom
-
That was it! Thanks! -Tom

I can't seem to add a device to Google Home. I have it (a LampLinc) set up in the portal, with a spoken. In Google Home, I follow the instructions to add a new device, and choose "Works with Google." This page already displays my other linked service (Lutron). Then I search for "Univ" and the Universal Devices entry shows up. I choose it, and the portal login dialog appears. I log in, and it says "Universal Devices is linked" at the bottom, then that screen goes away and the Home home screen displays, but there is no new device shown. If I repeat the process, when I choose "Works with Google", it still shows Lutron as a connected service, but not Universal Devices. So I guess it hasn't worked, even though I get that "Universal Devices is linked" message. I have two ISYs in the portal, if that's relevant. Also, this device is on an ISY on PolIsy, version 5.3.0. I'm not sure how it would know which one to link to, or if it's supposed to link to both. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help you can give me. -Tom

I just installed it yesterday, when I powered up my new main repeater. And I don't have any devices yet, so I can't really use it. But I will have at least one soon. Because of the timing, I was one of those who answered the poll with Inventory only. Would you like me to respond again? Also, you've seen how many people have been mentioning RA2 or Caseta in the "Insteon is dead" threads. I think the prospect of future demand is good. -Tom

How about your RA2 Select NS? I just got a repeater and installed your PG2 NS. -Tom
