ISY unable to add 2486DWH8 KeypadLinc INSTEON 8-Button Scene

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have Insteon Dual-Band light switches over the entire house and have them all linked to my ISY994i. No problems there.

However, when I went to link my 8 scene keypad if fails. It's not one of those new Dual-Band KeypadLinc's which I'm guessing might be the problems; power source is on its own braker.

I'm not knowledgeable on reading the logs, so I'm hoping that someone else can help confirm what might be the problem.

Device: 2486DWH8 KeypadLinc INSTEON 8-Button Scene

ISY994i v4.0.5

The Extended (long) messages are not getting a response from the KPL. What type devices are being used to couple the phases. Another user had the same symptom within the last week or two where SignaLincs (external Black antenna extends from bottom) were being used to couple. The SignaLinc device does not understand Extended messages and does not couple them to the opposite phase.

Also in general how old are the other Insteon devices. Just like the SignaLinc very old devices do not understand Extended messages so they are not repeated by old devices. This can prevent Extended messages from reaching some devices.

The other user solved the problem by using Access Points to couple rather than the SignaLinc.

I suppose I'm relying on Dual-Band to link devices between phases (RF).

All Insteon devices I purchased end of 2012 and are Dual-Band besides this KeypadLinc.

If I would have to purchase some devices to link the phases, would a solution just be to replace it with one of the new Dual-Band KPL's?
