jmed999
I would love to use this Z-Wave door lock on my door leading from my house into the garage. http://www.amazon.com/Kwikset-Contemporary-SmartCode-Electronic-featuring/dp/B004UHJA5U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1389811921&sr=8-3&keywords=kwikset+zwave Before I buy everything to make this work, I want to make sure it is possible and reliable. Once I install the latest firmware (4.1.2) and have the lock in hand, what else would I need to purchase? I know I would need the lock, Z-Wave module, and dongle. That is a lot to purchase so I'm trying to determine ahead of time if the view is worth the climb. The lock would be about 20 feet away in a straight line and would go from a 2nd floor closet (where the ISY is located) to the first floor where the door is located. So essentially it needs to go through one floor and a total distance of 20 ft. What else would I need to purchase? After reading some of the other Z-Wave threads I'm thinking about waiting until the Z-Wave/ISY integration is ironed out. On the other hand if there's not much to it, I'd love to give it a try. Thansk for the help! Link to comment

If somebody could lay out a basic setup and/or options of hardware it would be appreciated. Link to comment

jmed999
I have read the instructions but others are saying they need external antennas and repeaters. Not sure what to think at this point. I really don't want several wall warts (repeaters) for a 20ft range. I may wait until everything gets ironed out with the z-wave door locks. I don't want to spend a few hundred bucks for a lock and other equip that doesn't work. On the other hand, I'm dying to get this, lol! Are the issues with this pretty much ironed out at this point? Is it a big hassle to get it working? Thanks! Link to comment

You may need 1 or more repeaters, you may need an external antenna, you may need none of the above. YMMV as they say... If you want everything to be laid out perfectly right out of the box and absolutely have to have a perfect installation then maybe it's better to wait for the first non beta release. For what it's worth, I followed the forums a bit and followed the Wiki documentation and everything went perfectly with my door lock. My detached garage lock is not currently working possibly due to a range issue, I'm OK with that. There is still the keypad on the lock to get me in. Link to comment

I know these guys are working hard to get it figured out. I may install the door lock and see what happens. I may get to that this weekend. If I have a range issue or some other issue I could then wait on the non-beta release and try again then...no big deal. Link to comment
jmed999
Hey, I'm about to buy the dongle. I would like to just place one order so is the Zwave antenna required? If so I'll order it with the dongle. Thanks! Link to comment
