Prestige Delivery Service from Amazon

Just had my first package delivered through Prestige from Amazon. Their differentiator is that the package's "last mile" is handled by individuals with cars, like low budget local package delivery services:

  • Any (old) car or van, owned by the deliverer, is used
  • The vehicle is unmarked
  • The deliverer is wearing "street clothes" - based on hearing others describe them
  • My package came earlier than traditional FedEx or UPS, but no doorbell ring
  • The delivery notification was much later in the day than the delivery
  • No information from Amazon what Prestige meant, I had look it up and let my family know what to expect

My assessment is I don't like it. I find USPS or FedEx Smartpost to be a better compromise, and if the timing's right it leads to a Saturday delivery.

 

Any experiences here or comments?

I think its a great service as long as the parcel arrives safe and sound. If they also deliver on week ends that is a true bonus which I believe many could enjoy. I am unsure if such a service is available in Canada (probably not as always).

 

But, in my mind having more options is always good!

Amazon occasionally uses a company called LaserShip. Same type of delivery service that use unmarked vehicles. Not a fan since they have missed the Amazon Prime two-day delivery more than once. If you have delivery issues with Prestige just be sure to let Amazon know.

Good points, I meant to say that Fedex Smartpost and USPS can get here on Saturday, I don't know for sure on Prestige. I'm guessing they don't because you have to order Saturday shipping on amazon, and USPS comes by my house on Saturdays (and can bring anything from Fedex Smartpost... Canada too!)

 

It's not about judging individuals on what they drive or wear, as being able to identify them clearly as part of Prestige Delivery. As a traveler. I'd feel better if the official signs were there.. literally so my family knows what is going on.

 

The web stories are varied about Prestige, including packages being left near the curb or in the middle of a driveway, as well as wrong package delivered, delivery day misses, etc.  Prestige has a simple package tracking web site and an email address for customer service issues, no phone number or web ticket system. Not confidence inspiring for when there are problems. A network run business of individual contractors, and problems are managed by a central email box (?)

 

I would be lot more comfortable with this concept if

  • Driver and vehicles clearly had the Prestige logo visible
  • The doorbell is rung when the package is delivered
  • There was a way to rate the delivery experience, and know that drive feedback was being collected

I will have to start announcing at home: " ...around this date, someone driving an umarked car and no uniform will drop off a package". 

 

I am sending a note to Amazon about it.

Those are all good points I consider the minimum for any company.

 

Doesn't cost much for those stick on magnet signs considering its amazon!

 

Ringing the door bell is also a given but sadly it's drop and dash!

Are they hiring just anyone who will work for minimum wage as an independent contractor, i.e. no benefits and has to pay for the car and gas from his already low wage? How reliable/secure/accountable can that be?
