Revoked Certificate

Hi all!

I can log into my isy-99 (view and control things) and I can also log into the dashboard, but I can no longer access the "Admin Console" from any browser on my network (different computers, different browser types), The unit is connected to the same router as my computer.   I am running version 3.3.10 on a ISY99i/IR Pro

It seems the digital certificate that allows access expired Aug 26.  I've tried clearing the java cache and fiddling with some security settings but no luck.

I have read entries on how to generate a new certificate but I can't seem to find the menu entries on the control or dashboard screens so I assume they are in the "Admin Console" I can't access.

How can I correct this??  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same issue, revoked certificate. I updated to the latest version of Java, cleared the cache... still the same issue, I can't access my console. Same expiration date, Aug-26, I am still running a ISY-99i, I have a 994 on order and I am trying to prepare my system for the upgrade. I tried the link Michel posted, but it told me that it couldn't find the ISY, it looked like it was looking for a 994.

The 3.3.10 firmware does not deal with the expired certificate.   The suggested link in the above UDI post is using a 4.2.10 Admin Console.   The 99i is not only discontinued, it is past End of Life state.   Best to move to a 994i to have the latest function and features.

The 99i with 3.3.10 firmware is both a discontinued device and also well past its End of Life date.  The 99i does not have the program storage for it to be updated past 3.3.10 level.   Not that UDI does not want too, the 99i device reached its programming limits. The upgrade from a 99i to a 994i was available for $100 a long time.   That update option may have been discontinued by now.

I think UDI is suggesting trying the 4.2.10 level of the Admin Console.

I have the same problem. I don't understand; are you saying I have to buy a new piece of hardware, that they cannot or will not fix a software certificate problem? Why would I buy again from such a company?

MikeBro,

I don't believe anyone is saying that at all.

Simply that the ISY-99 Series Controller is end of life and future Insteon products are not supported at this time. I am sure Michel will chime in with a fix to this silly cert issue.

I would be very shocked if this cert issue would prevent those who do not intend to upgrade to a newer 994 Series Controller from operating. As I have two of them right now that seem to be working fine but would be very upset too if they stopped working just because of a expired cert??

I am having the same problem. It is really hard for me to believe that I may need to buy a new piece of hardware. Its stated that isy99i is no longer supported, and EOL . I bought this device less than 3 years ago to control the devices in my house for my wife who is disabled. I would never have imagined that it would expire and be practically useless for configuring my system in less than 3 years. I got no notice from anybody, though I registered. This just cannot be right. I am hoping someone from UD can provide me with detailed instructions on how to get the admin console back up and running. I have version 3.3.10 software and the admin link posted by michel would not work for me.

Suggest opening a Ticket with UDI support.

Moving to the 4.2.10 Admin Console (which I am using on my 99i and 994i) requires the Java cache to be cleared including checking the Application check box.   The same Java process that was followed to clear the Java cache during the last 99i update.

Hi all, I wrote to UDI support and was almost immediately contacted by their director of technical services, Steven Lee. He was very helpful and explained that the console app pointed to by the link http://isy.universal-devices.com/994i/4.2.10/admin.jnlp should work fine. It didn't appear to work for me using Safari on a Mac, but he suggested using Firefox where I could follow the download of the app more easily. That worked just fine, and the new console works quite well. He also told me that if I wanted to upgrade to a 994, I could still do so for $99 by going to this page: https://www.universal-devices.com/sales/ . Scroll down to upgrades and one can find a few options. All in all its reasonable. Thanks to Steven and to others here.

I called UDI, I was told a tech would call me back... nobody ever did. :(

Did you download the file in that link or run it from the link? I tried to run it from the link and it didn't work.

Thanks for the upgrade link.  Just ran into this certificate problem today and found this thread.  Not real happy about having to buy new hardware, but I do understand the logistics of supporting something past its end-of-life.  Getting the upgrade for $99 isn't too bad.  In fact, I'm looking forward to playing with a new toy.  I'm just disappointed that UDI didn't send out some kind of announcement about the 99i being retired.

They did. They even gave advanced notice for those about to buy. And they offered a VERY generous upgrade. I'm really not quite sure what else they could have done to be honest.

Hi MikeBro,

I am not sure what issue you are referring to. The issue is related to:

1. Using ISY99 default Admin Console for which the certificate has expired .. the solution is to use http://isy.universal-devices.com/994i//admin.jnlp

2. Using a link that's old with an expired certificate ... the solution is the same as #1

If you are still having problems, please do contact our support.

With kind regards,

Michel

  • 2 weeks later...

I received a similar error, but it was certificate revoked not expired. I understand that many software and hardware products reach their end of life, but logging into a CA and revoking a certificate seems a little drastic. (Or did the CA revoke it when a new cert was issued with the same name?)  My PLM also failed at the same time. Now I get to choose an Insteon+ management system again, and I'm wondering if there's an ISY roadmap. I loved my 99, and I could make it do almost anything I could think of -- I was still working on Asterisk integration, but I have some questions.

How long will an ISY-994 be supported? Does it turn into a brick past its EOL?

If I upgrade now, do I also have to repurchase the additional modules, such as Network Resources?

If future Insteon devices are not supported, then what kind of switches should I be buying?

Does the ISY software require Internet connectivity to work -- does it need to talk to resources outside my home to function without updates?

Thanks,
Larry

The ISY needs to connected to a LAN. A WAN (e.g., internet) is optional. Updates do require web access, but only for the update, not for functionality.

Hi Larry,

We usually support each hardware platform for about 5 years. ISY994 has been out for about 2 years now. Your ISY99 is NOT bricked. You can still access it and if you don't want to add additional features/enhancements, you really do not need to upgrade.

If I upgrade now, do I also have to repurchase the additional modules, such as Network Resources?

Modules are transferred free of charge: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-994i_Series:Migrating_To_Your_ISY-994i

I am not sure where you can go to purchase older INSTEON devices

As stusviews suggested, Internet connection is only needed once to download the Java app.

With kind regards,

Michel
