tibbar Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Hello. Anybody knows how to set on level and any other advanced programming on Leviton VRE06-1LZ dimmer with ISY and is it possible to control dimming with Insteon keypads. Thanks
416to305 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Does the manual include the configuration codes? Usually it's just a matter of right clicking it in the admin console and picking Z-Wave and I forget the exact command off hand but there's ones about change configuration parameter or something along those lines, where you'd enter the number in the manual to change the settings if they support those features.
andyf0 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 You can check here but I don't think Leviton publishes their configuration codes. http://www.pepper1.net/zwavedb/device?sort=name&sort_type=desc&filter_cmd_class=&filter_frequency=1&filter_language=en&filter_manufacturer=&filter_generic_class=
416to305 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Just reading this again but wouldn't it be no different than anything else? I thought you meant you wanted to change ramp rate and so on, which is config codes. But to control a Z Wave switch with the ISY and a Keypad, someone else would know more but I'm 99% sure you need to do it with programs. So if KPL A control goes ON, turn on the Z Wave switch, if it goes off turn it off. If KPL B goes on, set the light to 50% or whatever. Holding down a KPL button to brighten or darken a light only works with Insteon devices when the KPL is a controller of a scene, otherwise holding it down does nothing. From what I've seen, you can't do a scene with Z-Wave, as a "Scene" in insteon's world are devices either a controller or responder linked together not needing a controller or ISY etc to do their task. Not ideal but pretty sure you need to program everything you want, maybe fast on on the KPL makes it xyz% dimness, where on is 100%.
tibbar Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 Hi. @ 416to305 Yes you are right I can control different dimm levels with programs and KPL buttons so lets say to control dimm levels at 10,40,70 I would have to use 3 buttons. I was hoping that ISY would be smart enough to "bridge" Insteon and ZWave together and use it as ONE.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Hi Guys, We should have more multi-protocol scene support in 5.x. Have you tried putting both in the same scene? With kind regards,Michel
416to305 Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 For me when I tried making a scene that included a KPL button as controller and then a GE Z-Wave switch module as a responder in the scene, nothing would happen. Only way I could make it work was with a program "If KPL A control is ON, then set Z-Wave switch On" type thing. For me it's not really a big deal though as Insteon lighting products are far supperior and I'd only ever buy Z-Wave switches again if they were going in lesser used places like garage etc since they are much cheaper like $129 for a 4 pack vs $49 for each of Insteon. But the features and capabilities of Insteon are better, plus the switches in general are nicer. So other than the 6 switches and devices I have, I'm mostly using Z-Wave on the ISY for door locks, motion sensor, thermostat etc.
tibbar Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 Stupid. I just typed a response but didn't notice I wasn't logged in and after clicking "Post" I lost the whole response. Stupid
tibbar Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 In short: I disagree Insteon switches or dimmers is superior to Zwave. Installed 22 pot (Sylvania 6" LED dimmable) lights in a soffit aroud the house, had to go with ELV (Electronic Low Voltage) dimmer only one I found is Leviton VRE06-1LZ (almost $200). Installed ver4.2.20 I think it is newer then 4.2.18 but it may be still in beta. A Scene with Z-wave switch or outlet and KPL works but can not set "0n" level.
416to305 Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Well the scene with my KPL and GE outlet module wouldn't work at all. I'm just going by the experience I have with Z-Wave switches which are the Linear ones. They are stiff to press up and down, to the point that most guests don't push hard enough, and then when you do press off, they are delayed for 1-2 seconds before fading down, so I've had company several times go "Oh how do I turn this off?" and turn around to try again only to have it fade off. Plus there's no instant status unless you buy the much more expensive ones. I just like how the Insteon ones are easy to turn on and off, the have those great futuristic led lights on the left showing the level, plus supports instant status, fast on, fast off, etc. For me no matter whether I use Insteon or Z-Wave dimmers, because all my bulbs are GE10 style and LED, they don't dim anyway. Z-Wave makes them buzz really bad, Insteon not so much but none dim properly, only the lights that still have halogen.
