zwave scene controllers

With the advent of 5.0.3 software, I am hoping that something like this is now usable:

http://www.amazon.com/Enerwave-ZWN-SC7-7-Button-Controller-Frequency/dp/B00RY4LRTS

Do items like this, or the aeon minimote basically send a trigger signal that the ISY can pick up and run a program, or do they work in some different way?  I am hoping it is as simple as that.... ??

Thanks,

 Graham

Graham

Great question and I am wondering the same thing.  This would (for me) resolve the Lutron patent issue with some my switches and allow, for instance,  to create a scene in ISY to switch ON or OFF all 6 lights in my living room by adding the Enerwave Scene controller.

I look forward to the response to your post.

Graham,

After some research I believe that ISY 5.03 is NOT compatible with the Enerwave Scene controller as it is ZWave multi-channel.

In the notes of the 5.03 Beta realese, I found the following comment " I am very happy to announce that 5.0.2 Beta Release. Unfortunately - and as much as we tried - Z-Wave multi channel turned out to be a little more complicated than we had anticipated and thus we had to exclude it from this build lest it would make everything unstable. "

As such, I conclude that we need to wait for an update with multi-channel.

5.0.2 did NOT have multi-channel but 5.0.3 does.  I've been testing it since it was released a couple days ago and my multi-channel devices are working.

Graham and Kohai, I just realized that I have 5.02 and  don't find 5.03 on the web site . Can you pls give me the link to 5.03 ?  Thanks !

I recommend fully reading this thread as the upgrade path is not smooth for this alpha version.  I only had 3 z-wave devices so it was ok for me (you have to recreate your z-wave related programs by hand).  Note that there are 2 posts by Michel that are required to really upgrade/transition.

There is some argument to waiting for 5.0.4 but I'm happy with 5.0.3 since I had such a basic isy setup.

Kohai,  you are very right.  The upgrade to 5.03 is complicated and did not work for me as all ZWave devices disappeared from Administrative Console. Probably better to wait for 5.04

Yeah, you have to follow the instructions closely.  There's a step in there to heal the network or rediscover them again.  It's a bit of a forklift upgrade right now.  I've been sitting around waiting for it and had so little setup on my isy that I have been able to move forward with a couple z-wave projects now that the multi-channel is functional.

Out of the gate it looks like the new version has some issues - people are reporting minimote issues specifically, which is unfortunate news.

I'm thinking about buying an Aeon Z-wave USB dongle ($40) for the multichannel stuff, running openremote, and feeding the ISY state variables that can trigger programs based on things like minimote or scene controllers being triggered.

I think that would mean that i have 2 zwave meshes in my house though - not sure if that would work.

Anyone done anything like that?

How did you get the enerwave SC7 to work ? I still have issues with the device being correctly detected.

I'm sitting on a scene controller and a minimote. I ordered an Aeon USB stick zwave controller because it seems to be something i will need in the future anyway. I'm thinking of using it with openremote or some other program and linking the multichannel stuff to it, then calling ISY via REST and setting state variables when the scene controller and minimote are used to trigger programs.

Today I installed the Enerwave 7-button scene controller. Having read about the migration issues of 5.03, I am still at 5.02 and was hoping that the Enerwave ZWN-SC7-W Z-Wave Wireless 7-Button Scene Controller would work as a simple one scene controller. However the Scene Controller is not recognized by the Administrative Console and I will have to wait for the improved 5.03.   I also ordered the Aeon Minimote and expect the same result.

The Enerwave ZWN-SC7-W Z-Wave Wireless 7-Button Scene Controller looks neat in the wall box and if I get it to work in 5.03, then I will place another three of these in my home.

  • 2 weeks later...
Once Multi-channel is stabilized, I would think these would work. But I wouldn't try until there is a relatively stable 5.x.
