Switching switchs?

There's two dimmers (Insteon 2477d) that were connected physically to the electrical wires by my electrician, but they have been misplaced...

 

Is it possible to use the controller to make dimmer A control dimmer B and dimmer B control dimmer A? So basically, switching the switch without rewiring...

With ISY, you can name the SwitchLinc dimmers anything you want and control anything you want.

 

However, the paddles on each, will only control their own dimmer circuits.

USe the ISY to create a new scene by using the 'New Scene' menu option at the bottom of the 'Link Management Menu' (next to 'File')

 

Use the mouse to 'drag and drop' each switch into the new scene you created. When asked, make each switch a controller. This is the preferred way to do it, and not have to rewire.

If you mean that you want a 3-way configuration, then yes, you can do that. If you mean that you want to switch the loads, then no, that's not possible.

I think Larryllix understood what I meant. I was hoping to use ISY to program the dimmers in such a way that they would behave physically like if they had been switched one for the other.

 

But I guess I am daydreaming.

Are both switches in the same switch box? If so, then the fix is easy. If not, then then wiring them them to different loads is not possible. But, that can be overcome with a couple of Micro Modules.

Indeed, I am not asking how to set a virtual 3-way. It is easy to do so with the creation of a scene, as said earlier.

 

What I was hoping for, is to set dimmer A to control dimmer B, and for dimmer B to control dimmer A. 

 

A is physically connected to the exterior lights in the backyards.

 

B is connected to the interior garage lights.

 

The problem is that A is by the garage door, and B is placed closer to the backyard access...

 

I know that if I use an APP or the ISY portal, I can name the switches the way I want. But I would like those switches to emulate the other one, physically.

The question you need to answer is, are the switches side by side?

I think your goal is to control these lights remotely, together, via a phone app? If yes, than that what needs to be addressed. It still involves a scene. But instead of of controlling the switches with the app, control the scene.

 

Set up the scene, and control the scene remotely with your phone. I have the Agave android app, and I can add the Scene to Agave and control separate switches in unison, together. All related lights an switches turn on, turn off and dim in unison but controlling a single scene control in agave.

I've been using Insteon devices for some 10 years but am having trouble knowing what you want.   Normally devices are cross-linked by adding both devices as Controllers to an ISY Scene.   That approach was dismissed leaving the technical details an open question.  Can you provide the details of what you need.

Stu has the best idea. At each switch you will need to bypass the switch and run hot to the light. Then install a Micro Dimmer at the light.

 

If you had room, you could install the Micro Dimmer in the switch box.

I have two SwitchLincs that control outside lights.

 

One is at the front of the house and controls it's porch lights at that end.

 

The other SwitchLinc is at the back of the house and controls the side deck lights that traverse from that end to the front.

 

Each switch controls it's hardwaired bank of lights but in addition a double tap up or double tap donw control both banks of lights from either switch.

 

This does come in handy quite often.

 

Not ideal, but I can turn on both banks of lights from one switch wih a double tap On and then turn off only the near bank of light with a single tap Off, effectively leaving the opposite end lights on, only, and from the opposite switch.
