rafarataneneces Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Can I use both at the same time or will one radio replace the other radio inside the ISY? I've heard WINK uses both. Or is there a Wink/Hub that I can control from the ISY? Anybody with experience in this?

Or is there a Wink/Hub that I can control from the ISY? Anybody with experience in this? Me again. IIRC the ISY only has one card slot inside and both protocols take the slot. It's one or the other. The Wink hub should be controllable with the Network Module if you know the API codes. Not sure check into Polyglot and NodeLink to see if they have support for it. There was Wink threads back along time ago before they folded up, if you do some forum searching.
paulbates Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 The 994i has one slot for an expansion card, zwave or zigbee.. not both. Here is the ISY sales page for the Zigbee model

What do you mean 'before they folded up' So in theory I can have a house with Insteon + Z-Wave (ISY994i) and Wink (Network module)?
Harvvm Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Another option although more expensive would be to use two ISYs one zwave one zigbee. Make one primary. I would need to be at 5.x.x firmware. Might be simpler in the long run.
MWareman Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Be aware that ISYs Zigbee support is limited (I believe) to power metering equipment only. It's not a general purpose implementation.
rafarataneneces Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 Be aware that ISYs Zigbee support is limited (I believe) to power metering equipment only. It's not a general purpose implementation. OH OK so Osram Lightify RGB will not work? Thanks!
rafarataneneces Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 What about Samsung SmartThings?Has anybody tried that with their API?I would like to know between Wink or SmartThings which one is the better option My dream is to use Osram Lightify and turn them On/Off via the Wink or Smart Things API (network module)I just want to know if anybody has experience in either of those two Zigbee modules. Thanks!
danbutter Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Do you already have the ISY? If I recall I think you can add osram bulbs to a hue gateway. ISY can control the hue bulbs via network resources (or polyglot if you use the new builds of the 5.x.x software). A hue hub/gateway can be had for little money on eBay.

Yes I already have the ISY My dream home is ISY talking via API to other hubs. Like Wink or SmartThings

rafarataneneces Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 Unfortunately Philips Hue is not playing nice with Osram Lightify (although they both use Zigbee) Anybody here has Zigbee lights controlled from ISY?I mean other than Philips Hue?
MWareman Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Zigbee is notoriously bad. For energy, it's one protocol. Lighting, another. Different vendors sometimes do things differently. There is little by the way of standardization. So, one vendors kit usually does not talk to other vendors kit. On the ISY, Zigbee use is limited just for energy metering.

So for this device: Keen Home Smart Vent System https://keenhome.io/ Which ZigBee Protocol is that? If I buy Samsung SmartThings, then it says it's compatible. I checked Samsung SmartThings and it says it's ZigBee compatible. A lot of the Samsung SmartThings devices are ZigBee, all the motion sensors, door sensors, etc, all of them are ZigBee. Since SmartThings is a very popular product, can you please help me see which ZigBee protocol they are using and if ISY will ever be able to use that protocol? I checked ISY website it says it has Z Series - For energy metering ZS Zigbee SEP (Smart Energy Profile) Thanks

Michel Kohanim Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Hi rafarataneneces, ISY does not support any ZigBee that can work with SmarThings. With kind regards, Michel
rafarataneneces Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 Hi rafarataneneces, ISY does not support any ZigBee that can work with SmarThings. With kind regards, Michel From what I read the ISY994iZ allows control of: Brultech ECM1240, Brultech GreenEye, and UDI EM3 3 Phase Do you know if the Zigbee radio in the ISY994iZ would allow for future control of ZigBee devices such as those controlled in Samsung SmartThings?

rafarataneneces Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 So that ZigBee radio will NEVER allow control of ANY Zigbee device except for those three? Can you actually respond a more elaborate answer cause it's annoying how you dismiss a belittle people
G W Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 So that ZigBee radio will NEVER allow control of ANY Zigbee device except for those three? Can you actually respond a more elaborate answer cause it's annoying how you dismiss a belittle people You want to know so much but you don't want to do any of your own research. Take a few weeks, research your questions and read everything you can find relating to your questions. I've spent years studying radio theory. When I had a question, I would spend days and weeks reading books and papers searching for the answer. No one handed me the answer. Everything you need is a webpage away. Your always asking for the easy answer. Most of the questions you ask have already been answered but you can't be bothered to read through the forum. I spent weeks reading every post on here before I ever asked a question. You're up to about 5 questions a day. Most here are at about 2 questions a month. When you are given an answer or advice, you just refuse to ti except it. Short and to the point. Best regards, Gary Funk
rafarataneneces Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 well you haven't responded nor I expect an answer from you. I see Lowe Iris and Samsung SmartThings using Z-Wave, ZigBee so I thought if ISY could do that it would be cool Or buy two ISY one with Z-Wave one with ZigBee. Your answer is 'no it will never happen move on' and I don't think you answer with intend to at least maybe understand why ZigBee may be a cool addition to the ISY
jtara92101 Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 You can buy two ISYs, one with Z-wave, one with Zigbee. Or use an ISY with one or the other, and an external gateway with the other. Use the Network module to communicate with the other.
vjk Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 So that ZigBee radio will NEVER allow control of ANY Zigbee device except for those three? Can you actually respond a more elaborate answer cause it's annoying how you dismiss a belittle people The word zigbee does not imply automatic interoperability and only tells you that the devices use the same let's call it "transport level" protocol. Simplifying somewhat, the app level protocol is defined by so called zigbee profiles. So, it's not sufficient for a device to be labeled as a zigbee device to draw a conclusion that it must be interoperable between various zigbee controllers. The device and the controller have to agree on the profile as well. Not all iris devices you mentioned are interoperable with smartthings either because some of those devices implement a proprietary zigbee profile making the situation even worse.. Smartthings to my knowledge implements only ZHA 1.2 (zigbee home automation profile) so they cannot talk to electical meters, for example. the situation is reversed for ISY that implements only the power meter profile, afaik. One could argue that a zigbee controller must implement all standard profiles but that's a business decision which may or may not make sense taking into account how fragmented the zigbee protocol stack is today (there are some unification attempts see zigbee 3.0 with unclear outcome).
jtara92101 Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Eek! To paraphrase: "Little boxes, on the TV stand. And they all look so ticky-tacky, but they're not quite the same!" I have one ticky-tacky little Zigbee box. (I think!) It's for my Keen air vents. It has an IP connection and talks to "the cloud". And "the cloud" talks to my Nest. Or something like that. I leave the ISY out of it. The Nest and the Keens "just work".
