NodeLink ISY first time setup on Pi

Featured Replies

I see the NodeLink help state that create nodelink server in ISY.

[1] I don't know where create Node Link Server in ISY please let me know?

I have network module, ISY 4.5.1 firmware, as the instruction say I can't find v5.0 firmware either.

[2] Is the instruction correct ? I have to update to v5 somewhere else ?

My goal was to run NodeLink in Rasp.Pi as I run now on a Windows DSCLINK.

Here is the NodeLink Setup i'm referring to: http://automationshack.com/Files/NodeLink_Setup.pdf

[3] I copied NodeLink manually and started running with MONO and always gets error to resolve ISY. Earlier, i can give IP addresses for ISY in a config.xml with the NodeLink the config seems plain simple and its like this below (pasted). Should i copy DSCLink Config file here and will it work ?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<sections>
  <section name="web config">
    <item key="port" value="8090" />
  </section>
</sections>

Just the guide on the NodeLink page.

V5 is in alpha and available from the forum.

The V5 firmware is in the dev form, here.  Its probably best to go with 5.04.

Be sure to back up your current ISY setup prior to upgrading to 5.0, it will be needed if you choose to go back to V4.

My recommendation for you is to do it in steps over time:

- Get nodelink running on the pi on its own, make sure you can see the configuration web page.. don't install in the ISY yet

- Backup your ISY and upgrade to V5

- Make sure everything is working as it was before, including DSC Link

- After you are sure that's all working, make a backup and install the nodelink node server in the ISY-- give it a few days

- After you are sure that's working, uninstall DSCLink, its variables, etc -- give it a few days

Paul

IMPORTANT NOTE:

BEFORE upgrading your ISY to V5, make sure your ISY password is 8 or more characters.  If not, change your password to be 8 or more characters first.

The V5 firmware has a requirement for a stronger password and if your old password does not meet these requirements, you may not be able to log back into the ISY after the upgrade.

ah! mine is a 10 digit old password and after upgrading to v5.04 i can't log in using admin "DEFAULT" credentials or my old password. Any idea ?

If i do factory reset and restore my back up will that restore all to v5.04 with my programs or goes back to some restore partition firmware version ?

Only what you load in last. ISY doesn't have a hidden partition or default firmware AFAIK

Not a brick. Don't worry. There is a reset procedure on the wiki that will get you going without losing anything. I'm on my phone right now but if you search my recent posts, you will find the procedure that I posted in a he last day or two.

If you factory reset your ISY the user / password will both be admin / admin.

Thanks. Yes I tried that and now I see error saying "safe mode" PLM is not working. So sad ISY firmware is so bad state they shouldn't have released as alpha if it bricks devices. Now out of automation [emoji15]

Normal response from ISY to protect the user and house, not bricked. Never heard of that yet.

Turn both units off. Power up your PLM, wait about 10 seconds for it to boot, then power up your ISY and give it a few minutes.

If you get the PLM error again check your cables

Now sign in to admin console with admin / admin. make sure you have the v5.0.4 UI though.

the PLM issue is due to the fact i flashed wrong firmware thats why. I contacted support helped me pointing that out.  Password was some issue but i did factory reset again and seems my prog, var, states are retained and allowed me to log in using default admin credentials.... so all good now. i will move to actuall intention of using nodelink now :-)

Thanks everyone.

Nice!

During the confusion of frustration when things don't work, who know what they tried anymore. :)

Glad you are up!
