andrew77 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I have a timer that comes on at sunset and it sends an alert to my cell phone. Then it would sometimes alert me that the scene came on. Now it doesn't seem to at all. I check the ISY and it says that the program was "true". Has anyone else had this happen it them? Drew

I know it can seem complicated but you may want to flag some programs to Run at Restart and also use the Catch Up Schedules (config/system). Rand
andrew77 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 Okay. So I'm not an idiot. Damn. I wish I were. Then I would haved the solution. I'm not getting the alerts but the programs are running. Again, I was getting them all the time, then it was spotty, now I have a test timer that I run and no alerts come to my cell. It's a blackberry but the same number as my old one. I've tried both Rogers services listed at the same time and no hit on either. Something must have changed as it worked great before. Any Ideas? I'm not sure about the RUN at boot stuff that you were talking about. Drew

Drew No, the PC should not have any effect on the ISY sending emails. The ISY is a networked device. Your router may have a firewall. Let me get some more help on this please. Rand

If you know the settings to utilize your ISP's outgoing email server, you can try that. Also, if you'd like, you can try our Gmail account: server: smtp.gmail.com port: 587 user id: isyalerts@gmail.com password: holamola from: (leave blank) TLS: checked Lastly, be sure that the notifications aren't being caught by a spam filter on your email account.

MikeB Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 To curb spam, some ISP's block the use of outside email servers. You'd have to contact them to be certain. If that is your problem, the Gmail account would probably not work either (unless they are specifically allowing traffic to Gmail email servers), and you might be forced to use your ISP's email server. When you make changes to your email settings, be sure to SAVE before hitting the TEST button.

Also, when I talk to my internet providers about them blocking emails,what do I ask about specifically? Just want to know to speed up the process and to not go around in circles looking like a boob. At the command prompt, type: TELNET SMTP.GMAIL.COM 587 ..and hit enter. Tell me what happens. Then, for the heck of it, try: TELNET SMTP.GMAIL.COM 25 ..and hit enter. Let me know.
andrew77 Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Hi guys; this morning I got an alert from the ISY. I haven't received any of them for ages until this morning. That being said I have it to alert me on all timers and I've only received the one. BUT... I did get one alert so this must mean the ISP allows me to receive outside emails. Now on to why they are intermittent. I'll try the TELNET stuff that MikeB suggested tomorrow morning and post what it says. Any ideas on the intermittent alerts? If you have assigned a static IP address for your ISY, perhaps you have to set the DNS server. I also suspect that request fails if you try to synch with the NTP server, right? someguy Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I do not get an error when I "synchronize now" for the ntp server. I am using a static IP address for the ISY, but I don't know what you mean or how to do the DNS part. Is there any more info that you can give me?

Please check here: http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... IP_Address The last step asks you for the DNS server. Typically you can use your router's IP address for this (same as the gateway).

IS that what should have happened? Also, it looks as if someguy also has my same problem? Should I also do what you're telling him to do? Drew
