Michel Kohanim
Hello everyone, We need a max of 100 very eager volunteers who don't mind spending some time testing our newest 500 series Z-Wave dongle. Just to let you know what's involved: You must be running 5.0.13 You must backup your Z-Wave dongle (Z-Wave | Tools | Backup) … this is going to take a LONG time so, if you decide to go for this beta, it's best to backup now Disable query at restart Replace the dongle Restore your Z-Wave dongle by doing Z-Wave | Tools | Restore … this is going to be pretty fast Test communications, Heal the network, backup, and range (should be a little better) Retail price for this dongle will be $39.94. For the beta, you can get the dongle for $19.94 + shipping. Delivery within a week. Due to exorbitant administrative tasks involving shipments to other countries, for now, this is just for our U.S. volunteers only. Rest assured that we will make it available to everyone as soon as we are done with this phase. If you are interested, please send an email: To: sales@universal-devices.com Subject: Z-Wave 500 Series Beta Body: Your address Thanks in advance. Broyd
A question Michael. You say this is beta, does this mean the hardware will change once the final product is released or would this be a firmware upgrade?
Michel Kohanim
Hi Broyd, Excellent questions and one which I should have addressed: in the unlikely event that we have to change the hardware, we will send you a replacement free of charge. Otherwise, everything else is field upgradeable. With kind regards, Michel

Broyd
Hi Michel, One more question on shipping. Are you (UD) still locked into Fedex or UPS? The last time I ordered this dongle it was going to cost me over $20 to ship. I got it from Orchestrated Home who used USPS and the charge was less than $5. The package was well packed. Your introductory price looks great but expensive shipping would ruin it.

Michel Kohanim
Hi Broyd, Hoping to use USPS but I have yet to find anything lower than $6.00. Will try stamp.com. Hi giomania, Yes. With kind regards, Michel

How long do you anticipate this phase will last before the new dongle is publicly available? Thanks! EDIT: Looks like from the update made to the Z-Wave dongle page on Orchestrated Home, it will be end of August. rlcrook
I'm assuming if installing a new ISY with no zwave devices yet added (or dongle installed), I can skip the backup piece? I intend for this to be my only (primary) z-wave controller.
Michel Kohanim
Hello rlcrook, Correct. No need for backup if you have never had Z-Wave. With kind regards, Michel
lilyoyo1
Michel, Out of curiosity, does the new board allow for ota updates or will it in the future?
Michel Kohanim
Hi lilyoyo1, The board the definitely does and we have plans of supporting it (in code). With kind regards, Michel
asbril
Question : I "manage" my own ISY, as well as the one at my Son's home through ISY Portal. Currently they both run on 5.0.12 . If I upgrade both to 5.0.13 but only change the dongle on my own ISY, will I still be able to manage the other ISY with same Administrative Console ? Michel Kohanim
Hi asbril, If you use the ISY Launcher, it will automatically use the correct UI for the respective ISY. So, yes. With kind regards, Michel

Michel Kohanim
Hi rccoleman, The only time you may need to clear Java cache is if the Launcher itself is updated. Otherwise you can even use the same Launcher for 4.x vs. 5x without any issues. With kind regards, Michel

I manage my home on 5.0.13, and 2 of my brother's homes on 5.0.10 and 5.0.12, and it was always a mess with the Admin Console launching. Now I can connect to all 3 with the same console. And it works!
