Device Membership Does Not Work in Administrative Console?

I have Insteon devices and controllers which are linked directly through Insteon, but those links are not reflected in the right-hand Membership column in Administrative Console.  I have run Query for numerous such items, with no success at all.

Do I understand correctly that the right-hand Membership panel is supposed to reflect Insteon links between devices and controllers?  If not, what is it supposed to show?

What do I need to do in order to get it to reflect the linkages?  Something other than right-click on the "is Controller for" and "is Responder to" categories and run query?

When using the ISY, the links/scenes need to be created with the ISY. The ISY will not be aware of Insteon links created previously “device to device”.

If you didn’t create links and scenes with the ISY, you should factory reset them and recreate with the ISY

Right. Query only gets the current status from the device (on/off, open/closed, dim level, etc.) and isn’t like an ‘ingest’ command that pulls in the existing links. You can have the ISY parse existing links when you first link a device, but it’s problematic and not recommended.

Paul, thanks very much for your response.  Is the proper way to do create the links with ISY by using Link Management | Start Linking | Add devices found in links and remove existing links?

Or, is there some other method?

Link Management. New Insteon Device, Auto Discover, works very well.  Start Linking uses the modules Insteon six digit ID for its name.  I have not used that method but I believe you can then rename the module to what you want to call it.

Remove existing links removes any old links in the module that where left over.

If you factory reset the modules first that will remove all the old links in it and reset all the options to default.

To Brian's point, its best to pick groups of devices (e.g. rooms or functions), delete them from the ISY if they're currently added,  factory reset and re-add thedevices. You can use linking mode as you listed and remove existing link.

The devices will then appear in the main tab of the ISY. To add link the devices in a scene, use the New Insteon Scene option in the Linking menu and name it something meaningful. Then use the mouse to drag and drop scene members into the new scene. If the device should be a controller too -- turning all the related devices on and off, then check the controller box before proceeding. It could take up to a couple of minutes for the ISY to link all the devices.

Repeat that process one room or function at a time, verifying everything works as intended before moving on. Remember wireless devices like motion sensors need to be put in linking mode before dragging into the scene

Paul and Brian, thank you both.

Paul, I believe that I now understand that when you say creating a link through ISY, you mean creating a link by creating a Scene.  Am I correct that that is the only way to create the link through ISY (other than, I suppose, creating a program)?

if I have a three way light switch, shouldn't both of the two Insteon switches be both controllers and receivers.  I just created a scene with a three way light switch and the Secondary switch is reflected as both controller and responder but the Primary switch is shown only as a responder.  It is working perfectly well, so from a practical standpoint it doesn't matter but I am trying to understand the logic.

Thanks again.

That is the only way. You can control scenes with programs but what I described is the only way to create them

Any switch that needs to control the 3 way (or N way), has to be configured as a controller.  So both switches need to be controllers. You can remove the primary switch by dragging it out of the scene (or single clicking it and pressing delete).. and add it back in and make it a controller. That will fix it.

Paul, thanks very much.  That rounds up my understanding and it works as described.  UDI might want to put some of this into its basic UDI Wiki.
