LFMc Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Why am I getting this error message on about 90% of my searches? It seems to be a bit sporadic, but I really do see it often. It almost feels like I am being punished for searching too often. Seems the more I try again, the higher the number of seconds are the next time. And yes, I did wait the prescribed number of seconds before retrying. (-:
Techman Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 If you're not logged in then the searches are limited. If you were logged in then it could be that the servers were busy

If the servers are that busy, I think UDI management might want to know how much their users might be seeing this notice. BTW, I have seen this message at least 10 times earlier today alone.
Geddy Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 There is apparently a 10 second delay that needs to happen between searches (and does seem to increase). It's always been an issue I run into...try sorting or clicking an option under your search within 10 seconds and you'll get the delay message again. It's really annoying, but I've learned to live with it and just slow down my actions. I've attempted to alert admin to this in the past and no reply was given to the request. And yes, I too am logged in when trying to search.

This purposeful slow down of trying to do research is counter productive. Trying to narrow down a search is normal behavior and shouldn't be punished. If the forum service really needs more time, they should queue requests and respond in order.
mwester Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Agree. I often give up on the forum searching, and end up on smarthome.com or somewhere else. I don't have enough time in my life to wait 10 seconds each time I fail to correctly guess the syntax or keywords to find what I need.
rccoleman Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 A Google search with "site:universal-devices.com xxx yyy zzz" is often faster and better.

I actually do this for a couple of other non-forum type sites as I find their internal search engine just horrible to deal with. Thanks for the reminder of a great work around.
