Uninstalling/Re-instlalling Device into Network

I have a Cooper RF9518 switch.  I was using the switch successfully, then the switch stopped working.  I sent the switch to the manufacturer for testing.  They tested the switch on their z-wave network and everything worked OK.  They returned the switch to me without clearing the network information, so the switch still thinks it is installed in the manufacturer's z-wave network and will not allow me to add the switch to my network.

Is there a way add the switch to my network?  I have an ISY-994i.

Yes.  On the ISY, select the z-wave menu option to exclude a device.  Then follow the steps for the Cooper switch to exclude it from the network (which is often the same step you do to *include* it).  It turns out that excluding the device works from any controller, even one that isn't on the network that the device is currently paired with.

The instructions for the switch state that excluding the switch requires the on/ff switch to be pressed one time, and then the blue LED will start blinking.

I selected "Remove/Exclude a Z-wave Device" from the  menu, the dialog box says "Listening for a Z-wave Device...".  I pressed the on/off switch one time, and nothing happened.  The dialog box continues to say "Listening for a Z-wave device...".  The blue LED did not start blinking.

I would very much appreciate your comments.

I have no Zwave devices. These smart units contain little computers and the software or the database tables can get corrupt and they may do anything, then.

I had an Insteon MS that send On and Off in reverse from the factory. I had an Insteon  OnOff plug-in module send out scene On messages instead of acks from commands occasionally.

Not sure about Zwave but ISY makes it real easy to "restore" an Insteon device in seconds.

Factory reset will restore device to as it left the factory condition. Do the factory reset followed by trying the exclude procedure again.

...as it was supposed to have left the factory, in some cases.

After doing a factory reset on my ISY994I unit and ZWave modules I started with a fresh configuration. When I added my first module it did not start at address ZW02 it started at address ZW 07. Thinking I did not do a full reset I repeated the reset on both. On trying to include module this time the address came up as ZW 08. I must be doing something wrong but every time I start with fresh configuration my zw address increases by one. Any idea what I'm doing wrong. My apologies if I'm not explaining this properly- 73 years old and still learning. Thanks for any help.

It's not going to receive the same number. Your card will always assign a new number to a device. 

The only way to start with 2 is to factory reset your card and re-add all of your devices in order.

Thank you for your reply – I did do a factory reset but it doesn't start at ZW-02 it starts @ ZW-08 and every time I do another factory restart that address goes up by one number. I also did factory restart on the module each time also. I'm not trying to get back the same address that I had on each module I know that doesn't work

If your not trying to have the same number then you dont have to factory reset the zwave card in your ISY. The number itself is irrelevant as it can be renamed for easier tracking (especially as your network grows). Personally I wouldnt worry about it but if its important by all means you should go for it.

I was able to exclude the switch from the network.  The problem was that the switch was too far from the controller.  Didn't know the distance was an issue.  Certainly wasn't for adding the switch to the network initially.

I moved the switch to be very close to the controller and was then able to exclude the device from the network.

I installed the switch in the wall and then added the switch back into the network.  Problem I have now is that the switch doesn't show up in the list of network devices.  The event viewer shows that the switch was added as device 14, and later says "Warning: Database already exists for uid=14".  Without being in the list of devices, I have no way to program the switch.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.
