toddhutch Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) Just read the news about the new polisy here -https://www.universal-devices.com/introducing-polisy/ I'm wondering since it has bluetooth, will it be able to communicate with remote indoor fans? Sorry I put this here, but there was not a forum for the Polisy yet. Edited June 12, 2019 by toddhutch Added disclaimer

The vast majority of fans are IR or traditional RF. What fan do you have that's Bluetooth? There are some (Hampton Bay) that are Zigbee. I'm curious as to the intended or foreseen use cases of the BT with Polisy as well. Perhaps a native BT sensor for the presence nodeserver? Perhaps other control use cases implemented by a nodeserver... hmm... possibilities
apostolakisl Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 Agree, what is BT for? BT only works for short distances so it isn't like you would use it to control a fan that is probably not going to be near it. Maybe you can use BT to configure it? Ideally the next gen of ISY will have the polisy hardware built-in and use a single GUI to control all of it. Of course the GUI could be done regardless of the physical nature of the device. 1
giomania Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 It said the Polisy was the future of isy, so maybe it is the next isy?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

giomania Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 I’m in anyway. UDI is awesome!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 2
asbril Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 I am in and just pre-ordered mine. UDI is the best. My only question, what do I do with my RPi ? Can I transfer the Nodeservers to Polisy or do I reprogram the Polisy ?
mjohnson007 Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 so is the only difference between the Pro vs Reg is the wifi and Bluetooth :-) or is there some upgradeble stuff thats not in the Regular and as always U rock......

I have to wonder what the range is. I was always under the impression that BT was a 20 foot kind of thing. After googling, I see that there are 3 classes and the high power one is 100m, though I don't believe I've ever seen a device that uses class 3. I'm assuming that is clear line of sight only. I can't find anywhere that lists the class for the Eaton lights or the Polisy BT. I'm assuming that since this is 2 way, both devices must be at high power for it to work at distance. I wonder when Eaton came out with this stuff, this is the first I've heard of it.

Here is a direct quote from Michel Kohanim from the Introducing Polisy comment section, "Polisy is designed to be fully integrated with ISY (you’ll use the same interface to talk with both). Furthermore, over time, functions in ISY will be moved over to Polisy such that Polisy will become the next gen ISY."
gviliunas Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 You can use the BT in the Polisy for Presence Poly.... and can re-purpose existing rpi as additional presence poly stations to further sub-divide your castles 1 1
Blackbird Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 I wonder my phone can connect to Polisy Bluetooth then pass that info to the ISY?
simplextech Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 (edited) Now what I really want to know.... How is the name supposed to be pronounced???? is it like "Policy" or is it "Police" or "Police-y" come one we now need an enunciation guide!!! toddhutch Posted June 14, 2019 Author Posted June 14, 2019 I use the Bluetooth Class 2 for a couple of things, it's more expensive (I think since there are less products produced causes the expense) and harder to find, but the distance is great.
gviliunas Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) @toddhutch I'm looking for greater range in my bluetooth, saw your post and did some searching. Didn't you mean to say that you are using Class 1 to get the extended range? According to Wikipedia (search Bluetooth): "Officially Class 3 radios have a range of up to 1 metre (3 ft), Class 2, most commonly found in mobile devices, 10 metres (33 ft), and Class 1, primarily for industrial use cases,100 metres (300 ft)." Also, there is mention of Bluetooth 5.x with a range of "40–400 m (100–1,000 ft) " but trades data rate to achieve this greater range. Edited June 27, 2019 by gviliunas

gviliunas Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) LOL.....It's a "51st State" thing. Fortunately we use the same Zed-Wave radios as the "Americans" Edited June 27, 2019 by gviliunas 1
