ISY has RX LED continuously on and can't see PLM

Recommended Posts

ISY has RX LED continuously on and can't see PLM. This happened after I went thru two things...

  1. [*:m61y3rrj]I swapped out the 4a PLM for the 5.2 newer version.
[*:m61y3rrj]The SD card died when I tried to “Manually Upgrade My Lighting†so Michel had me replace it.

Even with the RX LED continuously on I am still able to log into the ISY but can not connect to anything out from the ISY. When I reboot the ISY its LEDs do the normal all dim for a few seconds, TX and RX go bright for a few seconds, then the RX lights up continuously. The PLM LED does not flash at all during boot up and if I disconnect the serial cable and try to start the ISY the same thing happens.

What do you think is up?

No I have not reset the PLM yet. I will try that.

What I am saying about the PLM may have damaged the ISY's serial port by voltage spike or something. I have found in the past the Smarthome Insteon products don't have the best IO ports on them.

For example I had a PLC that would burn up USB ports. I could not figure out why it would work then stop until I had burnt up almost every USB port on my old motherboard (which was a good excuse to build a new PC). I had to stop using it and had no controller for quiet a while until the ISY came along.

I wonder if something like a 9-pin Serial Port Surge Protector would be a good idea in the future.

Ok I have no idea what I did but its working now.

I just started unplugging and plugging in ISY, PLM, serial, power, in different orders. All of a sudden one of times I was plugging in the PLM it bounced on the plug so it caused the PLM's power toggle on and off real fast a whole bunch. The PLM then filckered a bit then everything just started to work. So the ISY is ok.

I will keep everyone posted on what happens next.

Mark,

There are known issues with the RJ45 jack on the 52 PLMs:

1. You have to make sure the cable is plugged in really tightly

2. You have to use the cable that came in the box

With kind regards,

Michel

Nope still issues. Good bye 5.2 PLM your a P.O.C.!

I put back my 4a PLM and all started up correctly.

Oh geese, how in the world would I have known that. Other than it might have been mentioned somewhere about in the forum.

Could there be a yellow warning paper note in the PLM product box saying, "Please use provided cable". I know, I know, that is a question I should put on the Techmall, just letting of some steam I guess.
