ewind Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 I have the Z-wave Radio Add-on Board for ISY-994i (994iZW-Kit) installed for weeks. Adding 1st Z-wave device Aeotec RE6, following instructions for both secure and non secure addition and the same results. The ISY sees the device in pairing mode, then the pairing window closes and the RE6 goes into non-paired status. Should I see the devices in the device list once it's added? Is their another level of logging or debugging? I am trying to add this device first to create an initial mesh prior to adding my first z-wave lock Schlage FE599NXCAM-ACC. Am I supposed to add the lock first? Trying that next. lilyoyo1 Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 How close to the isy were you? Did you exclude then include? What's your firmware/UI? What colors did the RE flash once it finished pairing?
ewind Posted October 19, 2019 Author Posted October 19, 2019 within 5 feet, not sure what that means-I used the + add z-wave device menu item and watched the log. Firmware & UI 4.7.3, it flashes rainbow after pairing which appears the connection fails.

If you just purchased board it’s almost certainly 500 series.
ewind Posted October 19, 2019 Author Posted October 19, 2019 Not sure where to find firmware version, purchased Z-wave Radio Add-on Board for ISY-994i in March from orchestrated home. If its truly only supported by firmware 5 or above Ive been avoiding upgrading due to my perception that its going to be a lot of rework. I just dont have a weekend to rebuild all of my programs if it blows up. Is that not really reality? If so I'll upgrade to RC1 today Upgrading from an ISY 4.x version to this version may require a lot of manual intervention including verifying scenes, programs and program settings are correct. The 5.x ISY firmware and the data files it uses has changed drastically from 4.x.

The 5.x ISY firmware and the data files it uses has changed drastically from 4.x. From March, it’s almost definitely 500 series and will require 5.0.16 (I’d skip all earlier versions). If you don’t have any zwave devices, it’s much more straightforward to upgrade. I posted a very conservative checklist for installing the upgrade in the 5.0.15A thread. If you understand it, then upgrade should take no more than a few hours. I had zwave devices and it took about 2.5.
lilyoyo1 Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 I agree with @hart2hart. You need to upgrade your firmware. It's really not a terrible experience. The warning sounds much worse than it really is
ewind Posted October 20, 2019 Author Posted October 20, 2019 Thanks @lilyoyo1 and @hart2hart, taking the plunge now
DennisC Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Also, you need to exclude the zwave device before including it.
ewind Posted October 20, 2019 Author Posted October 20, 2019 Thanks to all...after following steps for preparation and proper backups, my firmware upgrade from 4.7.3 to 5.0.16RC went flawlessly, and have now added first z-wave aeotec 6 range extender. Now onto the schlage fe599 lock. Hoping this is my future of tracking entry to certain doors, and hopefully remote lock/unlock and entry code changing capabilities.
hart2hart Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 A bit of work but very worth it. Congratulations!
ewind Posted October 20, 2019 Author Posted October 20, 2019 Having a heck of a time adding this schlage fe599. Put into what ive read is connect mode by the following steps, along with having a range extender within 2 feet and nothing with ISY console in add Z-Wave device mode. I'll have to get back at it tonight. Oddly enough I had the lock entirely apart looking for a z-wave board or chip that was referenced in an article and I see nutting I havent found very many references to experience with the fe599 and the ISY. I'll try to capture my experience further. Enter your 6-digit programming code. Wait for the device to beep three times. Press the Schlage button. Press 0. The Schlage button will blink three times to confirm.

Once the lock has been added you can move the lock furter away from the ISY.
ewind Posted October 20, 2019 Author Posted October 20, 2019 Thanks @dbuss, the 6 digit code process within a couple feet of the ISY and it's zwave antenna is all it takes? I'll move the lock or the ISY.
ewind Posted October 21, 2019 Author Posted October 21, 2019 Worked! Just as described. Lock needed to be within a few feet of ISY. Thanks again.
