Cannot Connect Outside Home network

When my cell phone is connected to my home wifi network, Agave seems to work as intended. However outside of my home network, it does not connect.  I have opened port 443 as instructed.  I have paid for "extended access" which should allow for this... for primary URL I have simply 192.168.x.YY    with x and YY as actual numbers.  do I need to put in http:// before that?

hmmm... the directions on the UDI website says to open port 443?  However, my IP related skills are very basic... so a more detailed explanation / instructions would help

There are multiple ways to access your router from outside your network. The 2 easiest are using the ISY portal or a 3rd party dns service. The 3rd is to manage it yourself which is setting up port forwarding. That is what Jimbo was alluding to.

Instructions are based on your own network setup and your router. Since you admit to having limited skills, I would recommend signing up for the isy portal. This way, you dont make a mistake somewhere and open your home to being hacked.

As @lilyoyo1 says, the best option is to subscribe to the UDI Portal if you don't know much about networking, and this is a much safer method than opening a port which can allow hackers to try and access your network.  But, to continue with the port forarding method, you should look thru the wiki https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Main_Page  which has articles like https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Remotely_Connect_to_Your_ISY and links to videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV7u771uX7E

I think I just got it to work by checking the box in the ISY configuration UpnP !!

however … what sort of security risk do I now have ?

The IP address starting with 192.168.x.xxx is only an internal Lab address. You would need to use your external address to gain access outside your network. As others have said, the portal makes this much easier.
