smarthome_newbie Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 I have a KPL that initiates a nighttime scene that turns some lights on and some off. My issue is that the KPL is on from the today before, so on the next day when I press it to turn on the scene for the current night (KPL is on from night before), the KPL turns off the lights in the scene I have set turn off. I then press it again and the KPL turns on the lights I have set in the scene to turn on. The KPL stays on until pressed again. What am I missing here? If the KPL is off, one press will turn the lights on/off correctly, but then the KPL is still on the next night.
lilyoyo1 Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Create a scene, and the button to the scene. Create a program to turn the scene off after a few seconds.
oberkc Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Let me see if I understand...you want a KPL button configured to do a single thing: Turn on a scene. You don't need the button to turn the scene off. Is this correct? Does this scene ever get turned off, or simply superseded by other scenes? If this is generally accurate, why not configure the KPL button to "non-toggle" mode, where pressing the button always transmits an ON command.
PurdueGuy Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 I do a combination of the two posts above. My "Bedtime" scene (and my "Leaving home" scene) are both set to non-Toggle On. When I press either one, that scene reacts, and also triggers a program. Some time later (sunrise or arrival back home) and a different scene is triggers, which turns these buttons off. This way I can easily tell if I have put the house in "Away" or "Sleep" mode.
MrBill Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Many ways to accomplish the same thing. My bedtime is actuated by a button set to non-toggle off. The only thing pressing the button does, is run a program, the program turns off three scenes, advances the outdoor lighting to the late night scene and reset's a variable or two, and a few more random things, at the end Alexa speaks "goodnight".
tmorse305 Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Or you could skip the button and tell Alexa "goodnight" which would trigger what ever you need to run on the ISY side. Then I can be in bed before anything happens. As MrBill said, many ways...
