johnmsch Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 I have an old 2466SI on/off switch, 2707 Rev 1.1 controlling a light over the kitchen sink. I just recently noticed that when any other Insteon switch in the house is turned on or off, either manually or by my ISY994i programaticlly, that sink light will turn off for about 1-2 seconds, then turn back on again. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks
gzahar Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Don't know what is causing it. Failing is obviously a possibility. A new bulb (noisy load) could be another, but doubtful. You could check the device link table, or just restore the device (with a factory reset first if a restore on it's own doesn't do it).
johnmsch Posted November 6, 2020 Author Posted November 6, 2020 I brought up the Admin Console and it says that it cannot communicate with the switch and there is a red exclamation mark next to it in the tree. I tried the reset (pull out set button for 10 seconds, then push in and hold for 3 seconds), but still can't communicate. This was one of the first switches I installed during my X10 -> Insteon conversion about 11-12 years ago. Assuming its gone bad, is there anything else I could try before ordering a new one?

Yes. do a 'restore' from the admin console.BTW: 3 seconds likely did nothing. You have to hold it in until all the beeping stops...about 30 seconds and you cannot pause in the relaxed position. . Once done it must be restored.I have never heard of an Insteon Switchlinc going bad before.Sent using Tapatalk
johnmsch Posted November 7, 2020 Author Posted November 7, 2020 Thanks for the quick reply @larryllix. Tried the reset again per your instructions and am still unable to do the restore as the red exclamation mark is still by that device, even after restarting the Admin Console. There is also an issue where, when I start the console and get an index-out-of-range error as shown below. Once I click OK on that, I then get the popup window with Initializing/Starting Subscription message. I've let that sit for about 2 hours and it never goes away. When I click the red X to close the window, I'm prompted to close Admin Console. I click No on that and the Console seems fine. I actually haven't even been into the Admin Console since late spring time this year and wasn't having any of these problems last time I used it. I wouldn't think these two issues (communication issue with switch & admin console errors) could be related????

This sounds like an internal ISY problem. Your SD card could be going bad. Those are quite easy to replace if you have a good backup file created. I am flagging @Michel Kohanim's attention to get you started.

johnmsch Posted November 7, 2020 Author Posted November 7, 2020 Thanks @MrBill, but already tried that a few times and still get the same error. BTW, I still get a big smile every time I see your avatar. @larryllixFirmware & UI do match. Hopefully Michel has a suggestion or fix. If not I'll open a case on Monday.

johnmsch Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 Just to update everyone, I had a new 2466S on hand and swapped it out with the old one and the problem went away. The really curious thing about this was that the old switch was causing other issues. I have a Kohler standby generator that has an automatic transfer switch. When the power goes out, the generator starts up automatically and within a few seconds, the ATS will switch the power to the generator feed. Once power is restored, it switches back to utility power. I had been receiving frequent ATS Communication Error notification warnings and couldn't figure out what was happening. Within about 15-20 seconds after receiving that warning I'd get a second notification that the communication error warning had cleared. Then, one day I realized that these warnings had started around the time I noticed the issues with the 2466S. They were occurring around the time that old switch was turning on or off. It didn't happen every time, but it was frequent enough that I finally recognized the pattern. Since replacing the 2466S that issue has gone away. Whatever problem there was with the old switch, it was sending something over the house wiring that was confusing the ATS. Thanks again for all the feedback!
