Problem with Voice command scene

Featured Replies

Posted

I have a scene called Kitchen.

I have lights in it called Kitchen Sink, Kitchen Uppers, Kitchen Lowers.

I have a scene called "Kitchen" and the voice command is called the same.

When I tell her to turn on "Kitchen" she says "A few things share the name Kitchen, which one do I want?"

Nothing else is called Kitchen.

I don't have two scenes called kitchen, or a routine, nothing that I see.

If I make the voice command Wombat it works.

I'd like it to be Kitchen as I don't want to say Turn On The Wombat on a daily basis.

(nothing against wombats)

Mine suddenly started reporting "a problem" but seems to operate fine still.

It doesn't matter what your scene/program/or variable is called. It is what the spoken word is. If you have more that one spoken with the word "kitchen" in it, it will get confused occasionally.  At least Alexa will ask. Google will just operate things on a guess when it doesn't hear clearly.

I have other rooms with similar setups and don't have a problem.

(i.e. Big Room is a scene that triggers fine. Big Room Ceiling, Big Room Wall Sconces, etc are devices in that scene.)

The Kitchen is basically the same. I have a scene called Kitchen. I'm pretty sure it used to trigger Kitchen Sink, Kitchen uppers, Kitchen lowers but now it says "A few things..."

the scene triggers off a KPL C button fine. Just telling her to turn on Kitchen has recently been an issue.

Are they added to your kitchen (room)? Many people have issues when the first name matches different stuff...especially when added to a room. ie: Lights with kitchen in the name added to a room called kitchen.

The assistant is already processing your command when you start with kitchen. By the time you say kitchen it's redundant in the mind of the assistant so things gets confusing once you say the actual light.

For best results, add it simply by the title. Sconce, island, cabinets, etc. Then add it to your kitchen room

I did as you said.

I named everything Sink instead of Kitchen Sink, etc.

Worked great. Thank you for that.

Like turning on all the lights in the house when my wife forgets to say which one. Would nice if you say "Hey Google, undo my last command."
