Motion Detector II False Detection

Featured Replies

Has anyone else has had this experience with the new insteon motion detectors.  Both detectors are on USB power. About once a month, during the night, I get a false motion detection.  When motion occurs, a light is turned on in our bedroom.  Since there are only two of us in the house, no pets, nor anything else moving, I am at a loss as to why it is happening.  One of the motion detectors is on the second floor and the other is in the kitchen.   The one on the second floor was actually covered at the time  of the false motion.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this occurring with the new motion detectors.

Thanks

I haven't. Try factory resetting the devices and restoring them in the ISY

Duh.  I should have thought about a factory reset the first thing.  Thanks for jogging this old brain. Will do that today

hmmmm...dying USB wallwart?

I presume the logs actually show the motion detection?  You aren't just going by the light being turned on, correct?

@LarryCRetired  Is the MS seeing an uncovered window?  I have a MS in my kitchen. If I don't close the blinds covering the window at night, the air currents across the cold window, at night, trigger the Motion Sensor.

I did check the logs and I do have an entry at the time of the motion. One minute later it goes to off. I was wondering about the air currents.  I have uncovered windows and a furnace vent on the floor fairly close to the detector.   I am going to close the blind next to the detector and see if that makes a difference.  Tomorrow I am also going to do a factory reset

Very much appreciate your help

An HVAC vent can do that. You may have the devices you can record HVAC cycle times to check for coincidental times. Alternatively you could force your heating on at the stat and watch for MS events. Review your false event times for possible HVAC recovery fro setbacks etc.. There may be some clues there.
