Initially, the ISY was at v.4.7.5 when the locks were first installed.

I have a Kwikset Smartcode 912 Lever door lock on the back door and a Kwikset Smartcode 914 Deadbolt lock on the from door, both on the first floor.. After adding both of the locks I have run a Node Detail query and both locks show that the security=S0 which is what I expected.

I had initially added 2 Aeotec Range Extender 6 modules, one on the first floor about 6 feet away from the Kwikset 912 and about 20 feet from the Kwikset 914. I have also added a second Aeotec RE6 on the second floor, about 12 feet from the ISY. Running a Node Detail query shows both range extenders show that the security=None. No matter what I have tried, I cannot get security-S0. With this setup, the back door Kwikset would only work sporadically.

Noticing that the Aeotec Range Extender 7 was available, I replaced both od my RE6 modules with the newer RE7 modules. I understood these modules would support S1 security but should fall back to S) with my locks. Again, no matter what I did, the results of the Node Detail query would always show security=None. The back door continued to work sporadically.

I finally decided to upgrade the ISY and it is currently running v.5.3.2 software. I also updated the Z-Ware controller and its software. Unfortunately, I still cannot get either version of the range extenders to report security=S0 or S1. The backdoor lock continues to work sporadically. What am I missing or doing wrong?

I am in a similar situation with my aeotec 7 range extender. Upgraded from 4x to 5.3.2 no problem. Upgraded zWave module and found that there was no external antenna option, I had previously run one to fix zWave lock communication. I bought the aeotec 7 to fix this but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

The previous version 6 was said to have 2 modes for adding security (one button press) vs no security (two button press). I read trick was to do the two button press then add the device in the ISY admin Console.

Did you have to add the version 6 in secure mode?

It seems version 7 requires a pin code for S2 security (found on the extender) that the ISY is not asking for. I do not know what the default security is, I don’t see any mention in the event viewer.
Your seeing security=none? Or nonce?

my one working lock (closest to ISY) says “security Nonce Get ACK...”  so it seems my working lock (both Yale) doesn’t need security.

edit: I just realized that the “working” lock is zWave plus, the “non working” lock is older zWave and actually does report lock status, just won’t lock/unlock on command. Also, I’m happy to remove my post if it’s not helpful, just thought I would share my findings.

Try to add the lock close to your ISY before putting it in the door. Secondly, I never understand why one would use these extenders. Just buy one or more plug-in devices ( example ). Any non-battery Zwave device will repeat the signal and can be used to control a lamp or something else.

Over the years I have seen many posts in this forum where people want to include a Zwave lock with extenders and no other Zwave devices. However, Zwave mesh networks work better the more Zwave devices you have. Of course extenders should work, but they are not cheaper and do not extend more than a plug-in device that serves a double purpose.

After many tries with the repeater i reset the zWave adapter and moved the ISY closer to the doors. When adding the doors individually both locks worked without the repeater and showed s0 in the device description. I added the aeotec 7 repeater while still upstairs (no indication of s0) and moved the ISY back into the basement a/v rack (reason for repeater). Then I plugged the repeater in a location between the locks and ISY, “synchronized all nodes” (is this the same as update neighbors and or heal zWave?) and everything works.

Sorry @hthomson48if I muddied up your thread, hope this helps. I still don’t see any mention of the security on the aeotec though, maybe it doesn’t need it if the signal is passed between already paired devices. Thanks for all the help!
