For a few months now, I can't launch the admin console.

I get this.

I have cleared the java Cache, numerous times and still get this.

Please help.

Make sure your ISY firmware and UI are the same version

If not, clear your Java cache, including all applications, down load the correct UI version for your ISY firmware

This is what I am running.

And I am not a Z wave user. I see 5.3.0 is the latest official release but it seems a little  intimidating about rebuilding networks and so on.  Then I see I have to upgrade to 5.0.9 first. Is that the way to go?

I would do it in a flash but then I use many of the advanced features to use during programming and other features.

It has been years and years since I used v4 so I am not sure what all the advancements are but decimal values are great. Maybe another user more familiar with the upgrades can chime in here.

There may be some hassle to fix up a few program lines and scenes (usually highlighted in yellow) but once done it is permanent and never needs to be done again.

If you're able to get the about screen then you should be in the admin console and you solved your first issue. Are you still having java issues?

If you don't have Z-Wave then you can upgrade all the way to the latest build 5.3.4 (even if it's a "test" build, it's very stable and the most up to date).

You don't have to go to 5.0.9 first you just need to be sure you read the directions of the upgrade to know what admin console to load. Loading from the launcher referenced in this post is the best way to always have Firmware and UI match. It will put an icon on your desktop (I assume you're running Windows(10?)) (see below)

image.png

Then next time you can just double click that icon and it will load the ISY Finder and if you're on your local network with the ISY it will find it. Then click the row for your ISY and then "Admin Console" (cloud or lan are fairly interchangeable at this point).

So first - Did you resolve your initial issue of having "unable to launch application"?

Are you currently using the launcher to access admin console?

If you're ready to move ahead and update/upgrade then go to the 5.3.4 release thread and READ (and take notes) of the steps to upgrade. The most important being to backup and to make notes of your programs (it's often suggested to select the entire program root folder (usually "My Programs") and "copy folder to clipboard then paste them in notepad (or any text editor that doesn't auto format text).

Good luck! Report back any issues you're still having.

I second this... Upgrades from v4 to V5 go pretty smoothly now-a-days, especially if it's all Insteon and no z-wave.  The biggest CAVEAT is that if you have programs that use the function "Adjust Scene" they will NOT automatically convert and those programs will need to be fixed manually.

In addition to making an ISY backup before you start I would also make a TEXT backup of your programs for reference.  Open the admin console and click "My Programs" at the top of the tree, then right click it. Select "Copy Folder to Clipboard".  Now open any text editor that won't add formatting... good old fashioned windows Notepad is a great choice... click into the empty window and type Ctrl-V (paste) and then File > Save as.   After update if you need to "Fix" any programs, you can use this as a reference to see exactly what it looked like.

How to find those programs that need a Fix?   After update, go to the Programs > Summary tab... Look for the color yellow... any program that didn't convert right will be flagged.  After you open the program the cryptic GREEN text is a comment left behind by the upgrade process... it will be harder to read than the Text backup you made in the paragraph before this one, so refer to that backup to put your program back the way it was before.... and yes you can delete the green text comments.

Thanks for all the good suggestions.

I can get to the AC but I have to clear the Java cash every time. Did not used to be that way, but I can get there.

Made the back up and made the Text back up of the program.

I have had the ISY Launcher installed.

When you say " I would do it in a flash" do you mean upgrade with the use of a flash drive or did you mean. Like' "In a jiffy"?

Lastly, I do not think I have any programs that " Adjust" but I guess I Could do a search of the test file I just made and look for the word Adjust.

Thanks Again.

Clear the java cache.   If you're using Windows install The ISY Launcher.

The ISY Launcher is a new method of starting the admin console that always matches the firmware and admin console versions for you.   The first time you click the link it will install a desktop icon

image.png.eacb2f918abfcab435e34d134da15bee.png thereafter, you will use that icon to start the admin console.

@Michaelv read my post above and follow the directions for Launcher.

Make sure you clear java cache first (you shouldn't have to do it every time if you're doing it correctly).

I think I'm all set now. I adjusted the Java Runtime memory and it seems to be loading quickly, but now, after start up, I get these.

image.png.090a1b37f000ba5b29ec1f1c199da6e9.png

I've seen these before but they are blue and have the device name that it's not communicating with.

Now they are white and don't identify the device.

Any Idea?

Did you only adjust the java runtime memory? What's your current Firmware and UI version screen shot? If still 5.3.4 (FW) and 4.9.0 (UI) you didn't clear Java cache correctly. You've got to follow the directions.

Post a screen shot of your about to verify FW/UI match.

The communication issue is often not matching FW/UI or could be more involved with the powerline signal from the PLM.

Do you have any battery devices?

Yes, Only Adjusted the runtime memory.

I do have one battery motion detector and 6 water leak sensors.

I am now able to access the AC with the ISY launcher.

Just don't know why I am getting the black warning boxes " can't communicate with"

What device can't the ISY communicate with?

In the admin console under files, turn off the write updates to battery devices and see if the error message goes away.

Do you have any red exclamation points showing on your device tree?

I do but I know that those devices need to be replaced and I just have not gotten around to doing that.

I have see the notifications before, but I just have not seen the white boxes with no other message than " Failed Communicating With"

then nothing but the OK Button.

Clear all of those boxes, there's likely alot of them piled on top of each other.  then look that the device tree, the left window on the Main tab of the admin console and see what devices have RED ! (Exclamation points) next to them.  Alternatively you can also check the Error log.

OK, I am spending some time today replacing switches that are bad, so that should clear up some of those red exclamation points and the Failed communication message.

I just posted another topic called " Insteon ON/Off Keypads not working properly.

Would you mind having a look at that?

Thanks
