ISY on Polisy Architecture/Documentation/Etc

I am in the process of working on phasing out (EVENTUALLY) my isy994 due to the issues with the serial PLM (I am a huge Insteon user and don't want to trash all my devices) and hopefully replacing it with my new Polisy Pro/USB PLM.

I have integrated some basic Polyglot stuff on RPII to my ISY, but am trying to understand the implementation here . . .

Will the Polisy be my standalone replacement for all ISY functions, or do I still need to run the ISY hardware?

Will my ZWAVE devices work?

I use the portal integration for Amazon Echo - can I have 2 PLMs running during my migration?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I move forward, but just starting at the basics here . . . .

Is there any documentation that goes over this at a high level?

Thanks!!!

Polyglot and ISY will both run on Polisy hardware.  To elaborate, Polyglot 2 already runs on Polisy, So does ISY on Polisy but ISY on Polisy is in Development stages and is currently labeled as Alpha software.  P

Polyglot 2 can be run on either raspberry pi or Polisy, Isy on Polisy only runs on Polisy.  Polyglot 3 (when released) will only run on Polisy.

The z-wave solution for ISY on Polisy has not yet been announced... it will be a 700 series controller, but that's all we know at this time.  For Insteon ISY on Polisy already supports both the serial and USB versions of the PLM.  However there is not yet a migration path for moving your current system from 994 to polisy hardware... that is coming.

Not sure what you are asking here. but the migration path hasn't been made known yet.  Worst case: start over-- which most people with large systems may not be interested in doing.   Best case: Restore 994 backup on polisy and then unplug the PLM and move it and probably run Restore Modem.  but the are only GUESSES... we don't know what migration, will look like yet.

Anybody know where the docs are to enable ISY on the polisy?

I remember Michel posting ISY had to be enabled but I cannot find those instruction in the forums here.

I finally got polyglot 13 installed after it refusing to upgrade for months. :)

Will ISY run faster on Polisy vs the original hardware?  I would imagine it will be about the same.  Also, will all the Insteon hardware be supported? Just weighing the pros/cons of migrating to ISY on Polisy.

ISY on Polisy will definitely run faster, however that doesn't speed up related protocols such as Insteon and Z-wave communication... those are slow, because of that it won't seem faster.

That's a loaded question!   It will support all the Insteon hardware that the current ISY-994 supports.  UDI has stated they will not support anymore new Insteon products unless full API documentation is shared by Insteon.  They won't go thru the reverse engineering steps that they've gone thru supporting the newest products such as MSII etc.

Keep in mind that it's still in development and buggy.  It's not even being called "beta" yet,  I'd wait until it's been out in beta for awhile before moving over.   If you don't have a Polisy tho, yes you should buy one so that you can start using nodeservers with your 994.  (IMO, don't buy the Pro model.)

I suspect that the data stream from nodeservers will be handled much faster, which should help reduce a perceptible lag in performance I sometimes see with my ISY.  My guess/hope is that the Polisy will be much more capable with data that does not come across on a PLM or a Z-Wave dongle.

agreed.  I don't know what the hardware specs are on the 994's but Polisy's specs "1Ghz Quad Core AMD CPU, 4GB RAM, 32GB 3D NAND SSD, 3 x 1 GB Ethernet ports" likely run circles around the 994.

My original question also was asking - Can I run my ISY on Polisy in parallel with my 994 and access the ISY portal?  I bought the Polisy and a USB PLM a couple weeks ago, and would like to transition some of it over gradually.  Is there a way to do that?

Portal is a "per ISY" subscription.  Yes Portal works with ISY on Polisy, but you'd need a second subscription.

That said... Polisy comes with a 2 year subscription to portal.  You may have used that for 994 connectivity, or you may have already had a portal subscription and your included two year subscription is still unused.  As far as I know there is no way to redeem that included 2 year subscription without contacting support for manual intervention.

Also if you have two subscriptions for awhile, then retire your 994 be certain to contract support so they they can transfer the unused months on the 994 subscription to add on to the end of the polisy subscription.

Very cool, I did not know that.  I have my own subscription on my existing ISY, so I can do that.  I will contact support.  Thanks for the info!!!
