Teken Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 For those needing to purchase a few more items a 30% sale is now in effect. Promo code listed in this attachment.
Techman Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Yet another 30% off Smarthome (liquidation?) sale. The frequency of these sales is a bit unnerving. Offer Details: Use code FALL30 at checkout for a 30% discount on all in-stock Insteon products; including already discounted Insteon products. Some products have variations, such as color, which may display a unique price when selected on the quick-view popup or the product page when adding to the cart. All prices and discounts can be confirmed at checkout. Discount is not applicable to any other products and is only available while supplies last. Due to the popularity of this type of sale, our system may not be able to keep up with inventory levels in real-time; as such, if an item goes out of stock, but you have already placed your order, you will be notified that the order is being canceled. No backorders will be fulfilled. Free shipping applies to orders, over $199, after discount; exclusions may apply. This offer does not apply to, nor can it be combined with any previous purchase, promotion, or discount; and is subject to change or termination at any time. Offer valid Wednesday, October 20th, 2021 through Sunday, October 24th, 2021; or while supplies last. Smarthome reserves the right to change or modify this offer at any time.
upstatemike Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Inventory liquidation is just another indicator that SmartLabs is probably looking for a buyer for an expedited sale of the company. 1

They did have regular sales but seem to be increasing in frequency. It definitely is another indicator but not a good one by itself.

A 30% off for some items also doesn't smell like liquidation... because the goal would be to extract as much value as possible out of all remaining inventory. So things that move at a good clip wouldn't go on sale, they'd hold the prices, and you'd see fire sales on things that don't move (which currently aren't in stock anyway). Plenty of things I need that I would jump on at 30% off but none of it is currently available. 1
Teken Posted October 21, 2021 Author Posted October 21, 2021 In the big picture those needing a few items can get a break on hardware. As others noted I really wish some of the other accessories were still available to purchase like their leak sensors. Maybe 2022 will see a return of a few of these core items along with a final upgrade to the I/O Linc!Almost pushing 15 years and they (Insteon) still refuse to update this critical piece of hardware?!? 1
apostolakisl Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 (edited) The folks saying this is inventory liquidation for anticipation of closing shop would be disappointed to hear that items that were formerly not available are now available. In other words, manufacturing continues. Specifically, high wattage dimmers are now available again. EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure the fanlincs were formally sold out and are now listed as available. I did place an order for 5 of the high wattage dimmers and it went through. I'll know shortly if it ships. Edited October 21, 2021 by apostolakisl

Maybe we are about to see a whole bunch of items suddenly become available.

Especially for those large cargo ships. Edited October 22, 2021 by larryllix 1

The high wattage dimmers aren't the only thing - even if manufacturing is paused, the supply chain continues. I'm quite curious where the holdup is (academically, it doesn't change anything for me), as the Insteon chips use much more mature processes on the fab level that aren't strapped for capacity.
apostolakisl Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 my order shipped, so it would seem they were in stock. only can say for sure when I get it.

hart2hart Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I received a serial plm v2.6 and remotelinc 8 scene 5 pack about 5 days after placing order from prior sale.
Techman Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 (edited) Received a few of the sale items today. The date codes are 2 or 3 years old so it looks like they're dumping their old inventory. The Nokia line, which was supposed to be available last month, is still showing as unavailable. Could be a supply chain problem or ?? Edited October 23, 2021 by Techman

The Nokia line, which was supposed to be available last month, is still showing as unavailable. Could be a supply chain problem or ??Really WTF?!?Can you show us a few that have old production date codes? I know this was a problem in the past but some in the know always affirmed their system was FIFO. Which honestly didn’t believe to be 100% accurate. That was a problem for me many years ago as a unit failed and they came back and said it’s out of warranty and not covered. Of course I’m too smart to not have protection and made a opening video which clearly showed the contents, invoice, and production dates. Smarthome at that time obviously had to offer warranty but it goes to show you clearing the bins FIFO isn’t a high priority for some of them!
Techman Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 (edited) USB PLM - Date 3718 (Sept 2018), Revision 2.5 IOLinc - Date 1319, (March 2019) Revision 2.7 The others have been put in storage. Edited October 23, 2021 by Techman

The I/O Linc on the other hand has to be a lack of stock rotation - 2019?!?
Techman Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 The IOLinc was packaged with the garage door sensors, that's the only way they're selling it now. If they've been sitting with this inventory for that many years there's a good possibility they won't order more production. It will be interesting to see what they do with their Nokia branded products, and whether they will be compatible with the Insteon legacy products. Reminds me of when X10 went bankrupt in 2003

Reminds me of when X10 went bankrupt in 2003That makes a little more sense as many people purchase the stand alone version and simply integrate the I/O or purchase their own sensor. As the one included operates backwards to what a person would expect. Now, if someone received a switch with a 2013 - 2017 production date code that would be really disappointing. If people buy from other online vendors it’s going to be a mixed bag as they will receive what ever sells at the time. That’s what happen with a large Best Buy / Staples purchase I made too. As everything was from 2013 - 2015 but was purchased in 2017 and a few items were DOA so was a challenge to get warranty but was resolved later.

Reminds me of when X10 went bankrupt in 2003 Nokia is compatible with legacy products if you manually link them. However since no software currently supports both, you would be limited in what you can do via a controller

It will be interesting to see what the new owner of Smartlabs does with the Nokia arrangement... assuming Richmond Capital can even find a buyer.
