andrew77 Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I have a scene that Alexa knows as "Turn on Upstairs Fans" There are Ceiling Lights (SWL) and a floor fan (ON/OFF Module) When I tell her to turn either one of those on or off it works fine. When I say "Turn on Upstairs fans" She says "I found more than one device..." I have gone through my ISY Portal and checked and nothing has a spoken phrase Upstairs Fans except the scene. I've updated the Amazon Alexa 'portal' as well. (discovered scenes and devices, deleted old stuff) Am I looking in the wrong area?

In fact, any device or scene factors into the equation. Look in the Alexa app, the devices sub-tab at the bottom... Any device or scene or group listed there can get in your way of naming things. I used to beat my head against the wall over "Sorry Living Room doesn't support that", after finally renaming everything to weird names like "Turn on Apollo" (she had too much trouble understanding the word Prometheus) to turn on the fireplace I finally discovered the obvious... anything spoken that included "living room" in the name she was trying to send to the thermostat. 1

I didn't think to look in the iPhone Alexa app. I always just assumed the iPhone app was a mirror of the alexa portal. There were two entries for the scene "Upstairs fans" that were the exact same. I deleted one and now Alexa doesn't give me grief anymore. Drew Edited November 23, 2021 by andrew77

Actually that brings up a different issue to keep in mind in the future. Devices do get orphaned from time to time which is i think the case you just dealt with. I find that problem is easier to deal with in the Alexa web interface than the phone app. https://alexa.amazon.com from a full (non-mobile) browser. 2
Geddy Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 +1 to what @MrBill just says about the alexa.amazon.com site. It's sometimes much easier to determine if there are issues with devices and quick to remove and rediscover anything you've setup in the ISY Portal Alexa connection. Glad you got it sorted out! 1
randyth Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I only wish alexa.amazon.com let me edit Alexa Routines, especially since it's so much better at managing smart home devices. 1

I know.... isn't it weird that there are somethings app only. At one time there was a bug where there was no delete for scene's in the app, and the only way to delete a scene was thru alexa.amazon.com. It was only a fluke that I leaned the site existed, since then I've tried to repeat the link often so that it could become common knowledge... but it's just plain weird that certain functions just don't exist.
