noobmuch Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 I have an old Denon 3805 I would like to be able to turn on and off and maybe use volume controls if possible. I also have a Pi with home bridge I could use but was looking for the path of least resistance. Any help is appreciated.

Path of least resistance would be to get a Harmony hub/remote off eBay and use the Harmony nodeserver

Thanks for responding also. I don't know if harmony bought the company that had inline Ethernet, wired and wireless with either IR blaster out or serial out. I can't find them online line now they were yellow for wireless and red for wired I believe
Javi Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Look into itach, I've had the IR and serial versions for 10 years, both WiFi and Ethernet. They are rock solid, I have never had one fall off the network. The WiFi versions are difficult to setup or must be reset when you change your router, so I eventually ditched the WiFi versions as my router fails about once every 1-3 years. I've tried to ditch all wifi devices for the same reason. When everything is ethernet I just need to set the reserved IP addresses in the new router instead of trying to find every WiFI device and reconnect. Global Cache has an IR database, if I remember correctly you can download upto 3 Device Codesets per day. IR version has learning mode and you could send commands to any of the 3 ports, in case you have devices which have overlapping ir codes. They can be controlled with ISY network resources. 1

I was really hoping to be able to do this through the polisy or the Pi as I own them already but have been considering an Itach previously for a long time to solve this issue. The argument in my mind has always been why not dump that 100+ into a new receiver without a need for a work around. Knowing full well I would repurpose the old receiver again and start the cycle over. Thanks everyone.
bpwwer Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Agree with @Javi about Global Cache. I've used on for years without any issues. I also have a Quatech 4 port device that I use with Russound systems. It might be the specific firmware version, but it seems to give up on dhcp if the dhcp server is down when it tries to renew the lease. This means that I typically have to power cycle it manually after power outages.
noobmuch Posted January 1, 2022 Author Posted January 1, 2022 I started doing as Javi has done an apply a static IP on the router end and device end. Aside from Sonos everything lets my assign static Ip on the device also so it saves some frustration downstream after you get everything in place.

Depending on what you're trying to accomplish that would meet your needs with the least amount of work.

But when you decide to migrate to "ISY on Polisy" you will plug the 2413s into that port on Polisy. Why would you migtate... it's the direction ISY is taking... someday the 994 will be obsolete and no longer receive updates... new features will likely only be introduced to ISY on Polisy. ISY on Polisy is new, it's been in testing for 6-8 months and has only just in the last few days reached the point that its easy to migrate an existing installation.

I have not eliminated my Isy yet and still use it and the polisy and they communicate as I have some of the plugins that I installed on poliSy that show up on my admin controls of the ISY. If that makes sense. So my question then is should I migrate the ISY to the polisy and disconnect the ISY, if I understand you.

With your experience level I would recommend you wait a few months at this point. They're still chasing a few bugs out of the system, but yes ultimately you will want to transfer to ISY running on Polisy. As I mentioned it just became possible to migrate a few days ago.
