At this point in time no one really knows. We've gotten mixed messages from Smarthome as to the future status of their inventory

@diggler we all feel your pain. This topic has been covered numerous times on the forums. No need to rehash it...yet again.  There's a fun search bar at the top right of the forums if you'd like to go hunting for what others have said. Good luck finding supply anywhere.

Since he didn't read the existing posts do you think he would have found a dedicated sub-forum to post the question in?

Probably not but at least we'd be able to link to that subforum so he could

@lilyoyo1We need a whole forum section entitled "Entitled."

No!  What we need is a separate forum for users that have other real lives, needing some answers, and let the know-it-all bullies ridicule the remaining users suckers pissants that don't think  exactly the same way they do.

Geeshhh.. How to wreck a good forum, and destroy the future potential of a decent product? Just keep disrespecting the users  away with ridicule, instead of guidance, and maybe we can all have to switch to the more costly protocols being promoted here, when ISY / polisy loses one of it's best features, the friendly support people here, formerly talked about elsewhere.

Exactly. There are just a couple of users who seem to think they know all(they don't). They seem to have to put others down to feel good.

Unfortunately that's all it takes to ruin it for many. I honestly advise people on my sites to buy polisy but to stay clear of this forum and to submit a ticket if they need help.

I'm no longer a newb, but I am far from an expert with all of this.  I wholeheartedly agree with larryllix's post.  Sometimes I'm "afraid" to ask a question here because of the attitude I've seen brought upon others.  I do use the search to try to find answers; however, if I only search for one word, I get 16 pages of answers.  Selecting one of them puts you on p. 9 of a forum which makes you start from the beginning to make any sense of things.  If I add a couple of other words in quotes, I get nothing.

Sometimes us folks somewhere in the middle of the newb-expert continuum don't even know how to phrase what we're asking.

I've appreciated those on this board who have been patient with me and others without being condescending.  Mr. Bill, Bob P and others have been most helpful - and patient.  I have lurked about 98% of the time and only post when I'm at wit's end or see a chance to be helpful to others (such as this post).

Once an issue is resolved, I wish it could be archived somewhere as I really don't want to read 30 posts with meaningless (to me) logs and suggestions (some helpful, some not) about how to solve it.

Regarding this topic, it seems that most things are shipped out of a storefront in Irvine, CA.  Maybe one of you SoCal folks can go over there and ask them what's up?

If you see what YOU consider to be a dumb question, please ignore it.

Some of us are extremely blunt and would say the same thing (if not worse) in person as they do online. While i can handle criticism about my personality, I can say, i do not resort to passive aggressive language to get my point across like some on here.

No, we don't think we know it and openly admit we still learn new things. But i guess it's ok for those who are passive aggressive to talk down on others and use strike throughs but for those who are more open, it's a negative thing..

Yes, many of us speak out openly about a subject matter that arises every other day like clockwork because it's not hard to find that information.... especially when some of those asking the questions also commented on similar posts about the subject.

Unfortunately the store closed back in 2016. They've moved locations as well and the new building is pretty much closed off to the general public unlike the old one where the store was

@lilyoyo1I bought some mini-remotes recently.  The return label had an Irvine, CA address.  I looked it up on the map and it was in one of those industrial parks.

Ok you want blunt. I have seen you eviscerate people here. Not only eviscerate them but, do so while dead wrong. Your are right you are not passive aggressive, you're are just aggressive.

I don't give advice in many the areas I am an expert, because I don't have the time or patience to deal with you in particular.

I have personally felt the wrath of your temper tantrums.

I am however, glad to see you admit you are still learning. Now if you could read the basic troubleshooting flow charts and stop trying to jump to the final step.

Everyone is still learning. However when manufacturer turns out a troubleshooting diagram they do so with method and intent. Further there are basic industry standards on how to deal with different problems.

What is frustrating as a trained professional and knowing the correct answer and not wanting to post the answer because you know some none professional, hobbyist is going to jump on you.

I can only imagine the number of people who have either registered here and asked a question and felt the wrath or have browsed the fourm and not even registered.

If I were UDI I would have closed the forum or spun it off to keep it from impacting the company.

The guys at UDI must have the patience of saints to deal with shear toxicness of some of the stuff here.

Is that BLUNT ENOUGH?

Here is a tip, blunt is great for people you have relationships with, people who know you and understand you. For everyone else kid gloves. We have a word for people who are blunt to everyone, and it isn't a nice word.

As someone who has greatly benefited from the expertise of so many in this forum,  I am kindly suggesting that we all lower  the tone.  We don't have to agree on everything and in fact an exchange of diverging opinions often contribute to the knowledge of us all.

This forum contributes to the value of ISY and it saddens me when emotions interfere with what mostly are valuable conversations.

Before buying into ISY, I spent a lot of time lurking in this forum. As a mod on another forum for an activity that has a steep learning curve, specialized hardware, varying levels of expertise, and highly opinionated participants, I knew what I was getting into.

The creators of this product do a great job supporting it despite so many points of failure outside their control and broadly varying user expertise.

I identified some snarky personalities and they own up to it. I choose to either ignore or tolerate them (if they provide useful information). They won't change because they hurt feelings. To get feelings hurt by someone you don't know is unpleasant, but, remember, it's someone you don't know.

Others manage to maintain a lovely personality and always stay pleasant. Hats off to them. To encourage more of this, more good people need to participate rather than get scared off.

I agree that it is tedious to search and backtrack posts to get answers. Sometimes, I find useful nuggets in the back pages of a thread and other times it's time wasted. Using search is an art unto itself and relying on it to get answers is not fun.

Perhaps someone smarter than me can figure out a better way to support it than the forum and wikis.

This technology is far from plug-and-play. It's a club with initiation hurdles, dues to pay, and maybe secret handshakes.

There is value in different views. However, in many of the issues involved it's like having a difference of opinion on the boiling point. There is right and wrong.

When new users come looking for answers and are basically told they are morons for asking a question that is wrong. The problem is that if that happens too much the value of the forum is degraded. Then it just becomes an echo chamber. A toxic community that other avoid and it deprives everyone of a true diversity of opinions.

Mind you that several of these people have been permanently banned in other home automation forums for the same kind of things they do here.

Unfortunately I personally have tried building out different support platforms, they fall flat. Fourms and Wikis are about the best one can do in high technology. Unfortunately they are like Facebook, soul and energy sucking.

Anytime you open doors to large numbers of people, there are toxic people who slip in.

This big thing is to moderate them a bit. Either they will get the clue and change or they won't.

Thing to keep in mind is toxic people are often unaware of their effect. And often the person delivering the message is viewed as the bad guy.

That is the issue with open communities.

This is why often companies establish forums that arn't directly connect to their name.

My appeal is for respect and that should cover your concerns as well.

Some of us (including myself) have been guilty to responding too quickly to a comment and allowing for emotions to make the response stronger than maybe intended. Sometimes it is best not to respond .

@ase Agreed on the support challenge and moderation involvement. Social media in general is "soul and energy sucking." Many people I know now avoid it entirely.

I am a total newbie here and have asked many basic questions. You and others respond kindly to every query. I can be a moron, but no one treated me that way. When it inevitably happens, I will consider the source and move on.

You're definitely not a moron. The fact that you can entertain the idea means you're not. The first steps to knowledge are the words "I don't know". I don't ever trust anyone who is uncomfortable or unwilling to say those words.

These products are highly technical and highly individual. This is one of the big hurdles, it is a near impossibility that your setup is anything like mine and the number of viables are infinite.

I strongly believe you and most are in good hands here, I have more than 20 year in Technology and in high pace retail customer service. I have developed products, own servers and site. Many of the people here are of the same caliber or better than me.
