Power Outage - Polisy Offline

We had a power outage and now I can't login to Polisy.  I get the login screen, but it does nothing when I click the login button.  The lights on the back of the Polisy are flashing-green and steady-yellow (left-right).  Also, the node servers aren't populating the ISY with info.

My search of the topic found that one needed to open a ticket.  Is that still the case?  I don't know how to "ssh" and I'm probably not using that term correctly, but hopefully you get what I mean.

I don't want to start resetting or clicking buttons until I know it's safe to do so.

I won't be able to work on this until Sunday, but I thought I'd put it out there now so I can hopefully solve it then.

Thank you,
Ross

Since you can't work on it until tomorrow a ticket is probably your best bet. You'll probably hear back from them tomorrow as they tend to take Saturday off, but it is the weekend so don't be expecting too much back and forth.

Simple troubleshooting:

Step 1 - power cycle the Polisy cleanly once. Just pull the power, wait a few seconds, and power it back up. Listen for the beeps then check the lights on the FRONT of the device.

https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Polisy:User_Guide#Troubleshooting

What are the lights on the FRONT doing? If the left is on solid then the Polisy seems to have come up and working normally. The lights on the back are probably just network and PLM traffic.

Can you log into your router and see that the Polisy has connected to your network? I'd say so since you mention that you can get to your ISY admin console (unless you're talking the ISY994 admin console and not IoP). You also mention you can get to the login screen, but it doesn't progress. Did you get the Portal login screen when you first attempt to login?

If you don't know how to SSH to the device there's not really much to do unless support suggests you attempt some SSH commands. Then you should get a program like Putty to make it simple. Some like to use the Windows SSH shell, but I find it a little clunky (personally). It's just all in how you learn it for personal preference.

@Geddy Thank you for your response.  Before I open a ticket, I'll reply.

After unplugging/plugging:

  • Steady left light only
  • then the left flashes and the middle and right also come on flashing (in progression) with 3 low pitch beeps
  • then the right goes off and the middle goes off with 3 higher pitch beeps followed quickly by 1 higher pitch beep
  • then the right goes off leaving the left and middle flashing
  • Finally, 1 more high pitched beep and only a steady left remains.

When I log into the router, it does see the Polisy at the location I reserved.

I am not on IoP (yet).  I'm using the ISY 994i with Polisy.

I am getting the normal Polisy login screen (mostly black screen with the 2 long white bars for the username and password.

Thank you,
Ross

Thanks for the light pattern...seems that it is up and running normally.

You get the log in page as expected. But you say...

Have you tried on a different browser? What browser are you using? It's possible a cache issue has developed in the current browser and the page needs to be hard page reload (ctrl + shift + r, or ctrl + F5)

Are you trying to access PG2 (https://polisy) or PG3 (https://polisy:3000)?

It sounds like a browser issue if you're not getting any reaction from the "login" button after you enter credentials. Are there any error icons/notices in the URL from the site you're going to? Like hidden popups or not running scripts?

I know the PG3 process changed a few versions back that it pushes you to the ISY Portal login before you actually log into PG3. If you're going to PG3 are you getting the request to log into ISY Portal before you enter Polisy credentials?

If you open ISY Launcher you do you get a window similar to this:

File:Launcher Menu.png

Click on the Polisy line and then select "Polyglot V3 (PG3)" option. What does your browser do when you get there? If you get a warning that it's not safe click advanced and proceed to the site.

Hope you're able to get in with a different browser.

Once you're logged in please post a screen shot of what version Polyglot you're running.

Mine currently shows: (for PG3)

For PG2:

(Note, I'm like you in still using ISY994 on PG2 settings...thus the difference in ISY versions)

@Geddy Thanks for your continued help.  I use Chrome, cleared the cache and also did the hard reloads.  I also used MS Edge.  Same result.

I'm not on PG3 yet.  I didn't know one could be without IoP, but now I know.

These are my choices when I start the ISY finder:

I haven't opened a ticket yet until I've exhausted the crowdsourcing.  I don't have any critical node servers; however, I do miss them!

Yes, you can have PG3 running even without having anything in IoP. The IoP process will also run in the background even if not setup. Nothing will hurt the system.

So, you're trying to log into PG2 and you're having issues. That sounds like you need to open a ticket to get something sorted out on your system. Especially if you have same behavior on two browsers.

To me things seem to be running correctly...your lights indicate Polisy is on and operating normally. You can access your ISY994 without issue.

Please open a ticket to get further help. Once resolved please post back here to let us know what was done and to possibly help others that might have this issue in the future.

Maybe.  If his Polisy is includes it.  His ISY version is 5.0.16B, which is very old.  If his Polisy is old and he's never updated it, PG3 is not running.

If running 300 series Z-wave OP should update ISY to 5.0.16C, if not then ISY firmware should update to 5.3.4.

We need to know where he is on Polisy before being able to tell him his upgrade status there.

Correct...trying to get there, but can't even get logging into work to figure out what version Polyglot is running.

Good catch on the ISY994 version...

@Ross are you running Z-wave devices and/or have a z-wave board in the ISY? Your ISY994 version is outdated and should be upgraded as @MrBill outlines. That's still not going to fix your issue of logging into the Polisy, but can certainly put your system on the latest version of firmware for your situation.

Let us know your z-wave status.

Final question...do you have another computer, phone, or tablet that you could use to try to log in to the Polisy? It's a website so don't need Java for that. At least you would know if anything is able to get pack the login page and make the login button work.

My last thought on that is...try the default user/pass (admin/admin). Just to see. Perhaps PG2 isn't telling you that you're using a bad user/pass combination because somehow it got reset to default. I forget how it notifies you, but I think it's a quick box in the lower right corner rather than big warning in the login area that you didn't use the right credentials. And would look like nothing happened. That's the only other thing I could imagine being an issue if you can't get in using either browser you've tried on the current computer.

Try another device (phone, tablet, another computer)

Try admin/admin

If that doesn't work you could try following the wiki for Polisy and reset the credentials to default and see if that works.

Info in the wiki: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Polisy:User_Guide#Reset_Credentials

Ultimately though...start a support ticket and see if they can get the Polisy logging in again.

@Geddy@MrBill I have no z-wave devices.  I haven't done any upgrades because things were working so smoothly!  I'm always afraid of screwing something up.

I tried logging into Polisy from another computer, but I got the same result - a login screen that doesn't change when I click the login button.  I also tried admin/admin - same thing.   I have a sneaking suspicion I have an un-updated Polisy.

I'll open a ticket in the next couple of days.

Thanks again,

Ross

Probably so, but that shouldn’t prevent you from logging in. Good luck with the ticket. Let us know how this gets resolved.

Just an update on my issue.  I guess my Polisy died so one of Michel's recommendations was to order this: https://www.universal-devices.com/product/polisy-ssd-mpcie/ and swap out my old one with the new one.

Therefore, this is what I plan to do and I apologize if I may need some assistance along the way:
  1. I'll need to delete my node servers from the ISY.  It seems I've had issues in the past doing this in the ISY (as opposed to doing it in Polisy), but it's anecdotal and I don't have examples.
  2. Upgrade my ISY from 5.0.16B to 5.3.4.  I'll research to see if there are any watchouts.
  3. Swap the Polisy cards
  4. Upgrade Polisy to the latest version (if need be).
  5. Figure out where PG3 resides (I still don't know.  PGC and PG2 were just a click away) and download my desired node servers.
  6. Attach my programs to the new node servers.

Long (much needed) vacation.  I'm going to start working on the "project" I outlined in my previous post just above.  I'll read the 5-7 pages of the forum discussing upgrading the ISY to 5.3.4.  But if anyone has any egregious watchouts, I would appreciate knowing about them.  Thank you!

Closing out this thread regarding losing my Polisy due to a power outage.

The ISY upgrade from 5.0.16B to 5.3.4 went fine as did swapping the cards in Polisy and locating PG3.

Even bought my first node servers from @bpwwer and they're working great.

I didn't realize that I now have 2 ISY's: one on my Polisy (I suppose this is IOP) and my "regular" one.  I'm sticking with my old one for now unless I can be convinced otherwise.

Thank you @Geddy @MrBill @Michel Kohanim!

Indeed you are correct in the assumption. Your standard ISY994 will continue to work just fine and the Polisy can push node server information to the ISY as long as you have it setup in the dialogue to be the target ISY.

The IoP just puts everything into one device so you can retire the ISY994 equipment. You'll need the PLM and a different cable to connect the PLM to the Polisy if you have Insteon devices that you want to continue to control if/when you move over to ISY on Polisy (IoP).

Read more about moving to IoP in the wiki.

Just make sure that ISY994 is in your PG3 setup and all should be good. If PG3 is pushing node server data to the IoP then there's no communication between the ISY994 and IoP so you couldn't include them in any programs or scenes.

Enjoy!
