AnthemAVM Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Since I am on FIOS and my IP address changes, was wondering if we could create a script to run and email if my IP address changes? Thanks Quote
Michel Kohanim Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Hi AnthemAVM, Currently, there's no way for this to work with ISY. Incidentally, this is a requirement we already track but with a low priority. Have you considered using free Dynamic DNS services? With kind regards, Michel Quote
brad77 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Have you considered using free Dynamic DNS services? ++ to this. I've had good experiences with DynDNS. What's more, many routers support this, so you may not need to put any software on a computer in your network to update the IP address if it changes. Quote
RatRanch Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 ++ to this. I've had good experiences with DynDNS. Another bump for DynDNS. It works perfectly with the FiOS Actiontec router. -Jim Quote
garybixler Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Hi AnthemAVM I too had used free DynDNS until I was blocked for excessive updates. I was trouble shooting my network and apparently sent to many updates to their DNS server. I think you are allowed only a few per 30 day period. My router must have sent an update on each power reset. I tried to find out what was considered excessive updates but could not get a number. I could have had it unblocked with a phone call but just seemed to be an added hassle. Subsequently I have switched to TZO instead. It does cost about $24 a year but the advantage is that you never have to worry about getting blocked and it to is supported in most routers. It can also run inside your network if so desired on a PC or internal router as it sends an update every 10 minutes instead of needing to detect an IP address change. Just though I would pass along my experience with DynDNS Gary Quote
aLf Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 My old DSL router/modem (Siemens SE465) was a boat anchor. It updated sometimes multiple times in a day. I never in 2 years had any problems with DYNDNS. I now have a cable high speed and because of some programming problems on their end, I was given a static IP (maybe for good) and now my DYNDNS times out the other way. If you don't have an updaye in IP address every 30 days you have to manually go into you account and do an update to the same IP. I have several DYNDNS address' because of multiple locations so I just go in and update each once a month. This is a much better problem to have. Quote
WayneW Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I have had problems using routers to update DynDNS, but then I may have old/wimpy routers. If your IP rarely changes, I found the routers never updated DynDNS, which causes problems. Running the DynDNS client on a PC has been 100% reliable for me and it sends an email to my phone when it updates or renews. Quote
