oskrypuch Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) So the Aeotec Multisensor 7 does a lot more than just motion. I don't need the extra, but it appears sold out anyway. The Zooz ZSE18 & ZSE29 show as available, but both are series 500 devices. I am more looking for an outside model, the ZSE29. It would be at the "end of the line" in the mesh, but I just don't want to mess up the rest of the system which is all 700. I'm a newbie at Z-Wave, and not sure if this one 500 unit would force a downgrade of the rest of the units so they could run on the same mesh, or whether it is just the need to pass through a unit that causes this issue. Did read through the tips & tricks, but it wasn't that explicit. I have run out of Insteon motions, virtually all of my system remains Insteon, but have been looking at ZWave since the recent events. So far, I am impressed with ZWave. I did take the time to arrange the six or seven modules appropriately, and have a booster. Thoughts anyone? * Orest Edited August 11, 2022 by oskrypuch

Thoughts anyone? * Orest There's been various discussion about this on this forum, but it's my understanding that if the device isn't used in the path back to the controller (and as a battery device, it isn't a repeater), there should be no effect. I have a similar situation with a 300 series device (which isn't in to path of any other device), and it doesn't seem to interfere with later Z-Wave enhancements, such as network wide inclusion.

Over the years I have learned a lot in this forum on the superiority of Insteon over Zwave. I don't disagree, except that I have always argued that Smarthome's monopoly of Insteon devices was (is) a negative compared to the wide choice of Zwave manufacturers. Though I recognize that it can be annoying that each Zwave brand has its own specifificities. If I were to start from scratch today, I would consider alternatives like Lutron, but overall I am happy with my ISY-Polisy setup, which consists of some 85 % of Zwave and 15% of Wifi devices. The one thing I have learned is that the less perfect Zwave is still alive and kicking, while Insteon...... well, we don't really know. So criticize Zwave as much as you want, but it is still widely available. 1

upstatemike Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Z-Wave is widely available but so are Caseta and Hue... neither of which waste my time the way Z-Wave does. And Insteon is still working for me with plenty of second-hand stuff around so I'll probably continue to criticize Z-Wave (and Matter for that matter) in the hopes they will improve/introduce better products as a result. 1 1
