AlexL Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I see this and lots of other info on migrating from ISY994i to Polisy. What I can't seem to find is whether it's possible (or useful) to ADD Polisy to an existing ISY994 environment. I have a mostly Insteon house (dozens of devices) with a few (3-4) Z-Wave devices. My ISY is working well, other than when upgrading firmware the Z devices are a pain. I seem to recall something about failing them over to another controller to save their configs. Would the Polisy + ISY environment allow that? I own both, but Polisy is still in the box. Also, on a related note, if the above is NOT a good idea, what does Polisy give me above the ISY if all I have are lights, motion and leak sensors (no weather checking, or other external stuff). Thanks for any advice.

I'd say the biggest things that the polisy gives you are much better performance, the ability to use USB PLMs and the like which expands the pool of available PLMs, and much better Z-wave support once the new daughter board (Zmatter? MatterZ? Whatever it's called) including firmware updates. You can use the Polyglot on Polisy in addition to your ISY, but there's no benefit to keeping the 994 around once you migrate to IoP/IoX. My 994 got shipped to my mother's place after her hub went offline, and before that it was sitting on a shelf for months.

When something goes wrong after that point your planned/routine migration will turn into an emergency... I have a ton of Sonoff/Tasmota devices and about 20 Z-Wave sensors. Haven't yet migrated from the ISY994, as I'm waiting for the ZMatter dongle, which should be waiting at home by the time I get back from my holiday in Mendoza Argentina... I'll begin the migration, just as soon as the migraine from all the Malbec clears🤪

Goose66 Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 The short answer to your question is yes, Polyglot on Polisy will work fine with your ISY-994i and give you integration with a lot of additional devices. When your are ready to migrate to IoP, it will be ready.
oberkc Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I am using polisy with the legacy ISY-994. (I am waiting on the migration software to move the ISY capability over to the polisy). It works well. As Goose66 says, this will allow you to integrate additional devices into your ISY without the complications of using the network resources module. I use hue lights, roku, Sonos, and a few others. The ISY now can control such things.

I moved mine when there was more mess than savings over to polisy. However, all is good living on the polisy exclusively. Much faster but a few outstanding quirks yet.Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk

If your Zwave devices are giving you a problem when you upgrade ISY firmware, then everything is not fine with your system. There should be no issue when upgrading ISY firmware. Switching to another device was when upgrading the Zwave firmware which only happened a few times and will not happen again for the ISY.

I interpreted this comment about upgrading the firmware on the Z-Wave devices themselves, which is definitely a pain for both Polisy and ISY994. Though, in my experience, at least with the old ISY Z-Wave 500 board, a firmware update would cause a decent size Z-Wave network to positively crawl (1 minute or so delays to commands) for an hour or two after startup while the ISY queried the whole Insteon and Z-Wave networks. Not so much on Polisy though.

I should have been more specific. Edited December 9, 2022 by oberkc 1
