First X-10, Now Insteon Not Working

For about a month, ISY994 v5.3.4 has stopped talking to my X10 devices.  Today, it has stopped talking to any of our Insteon devices.  All of the Z-Wave devices still work.  As far as I can tell, ISY is still talking to the PLM, when I ask for its status, it returns a result.  All of the Insteon and X-10 devices are still properly controlled by HomeLinc and any keypads around the house.  The UD admin console has ! marks for all insteon devices.

Plm is probably bad or going bad. Did you recently update your firmware? You can also try to restore your devices

Wonderful.  PLMs being so easy to come by these days.  No, I have not updated anything for a long time.  I have tried restoring my devices.  I have tried reseting the PLM and every other piece of hardware in the ISY chain.

True, they're not available these days, but there are repair service options. One by the new Insteon and one by a fellow forum member through ebay - https://www.ebay.com/sch/nilachidatasystems/m.html

Not sure how Homelinc is talking to these devices, but that's great if it's not having to talk through the ISY. And Keypads (do you mean like the 6 button or 8 button Insteon switches?) should control everything locally just as they always do.

What is HomeLinc? To me that's just a garage/gate opener remote.

The new Insteon is there to support their devices. If you might contact them they might be able to troubleshoot the device. Even if connected to the ISY.

Otherwise, new PLMs are expected to be in stock early in 2023 so you might be able to find one sooner than later.

I replaced the capacitors preemptively in my PLM a while ago because that was what blew out in my 2413Us.  I am thinking that I may be able to take the serial daughter card out of the 2413S and put it into my spare 2413U and see if that works for me.  Since ISY at least knows that the PLM is there, then the serial daughter card is not the problem.  It is a terrible shame that we are hostage to the PLM.

Sorry, Houselinc, not homelinc.  It was Insteon's PC home software.  It almost works.

Swapping the USB daughter board with the Serial Port daughter should work. As long as the attached interface does not check the PLM ID that is attached. As the 2413U with serial board will identify with the Category and Subcategory ID of a 2413U.

The ISY994i does check for a connected PLM and shows its firmware but don't it checks the USB or Serial status.

I put a serial board in a 2412U and did a few test software tries. It did seem to work just fine. It did ID as a USB version. A serial board from a 2412S I would be cautious of. As the 2412S had a slower link database memory speed and early ones where 417 links.

Houselinc checks for the module it is interfacing with. So it may or may not be 100%. As I remember they came out with an updated file to include the newer versions of the 2413S and 2413U with a later Subcategory number.
