Chumby

Has anyone out there noticed the Chumby or upcoming Sony Dash? These are small, touch screen devices that provide access to certain internet data through apps. Do you have any thoughts on the potential of using one of these devices as an interface with the ISY and for controlling insteon devices?

A similar (but more expensive) option may be available through the iPad. Am I correct in assuming that the ISY application for the iPhone would work on the iPad? Is anyone intrigued by the possibilities of using these devices as an interface to your home automation system?

Hi oberkc,

We have indeed checkout Chumby; our only constraints are resources related and since we provide full/free SDK, we hope that someone might be able to create a client app for Chumby or other client types.

I think I read in the MobiLinc forum that iPad might be supported as is but it's being investigated.

With kind regards,

Michel

Regarding the Sony Dash, it is my understanding that it, and the Chumby, can run the same applications. If one is developed for the Chumby, then it should work on the Sony Dash.

I just bought two of the insignia 8 inch chumby machines at bestbuy for $78 each. Couldn't pass up the deal.

The insignia runs Linux and can load software from the usb port as I have read.

I also see that someone just created a chumby widget for web mountain/upb control.

This can be done for ISY, no doubt, and would be an awesome touch screen controller for cheap. Who's going to write the software (sorry, I'm not the guy)?

I just started using a Sony Dash at bedside, I'd love to control my ISY programs/scenes with this at bedside. No more "clap on/clap off" or getting up to turn off the lights to sleep or having another remote control lying around! Anyone up for porting this?

Here's UPB's Chumby app:

Here's the link to the Sony Dash Developer website:

Dash and Chumby use Adobe Flash ActionScript 2.0.
