Insteon Ceiling Fan / Insteon 6 Button Switch - Polisy Control

Odd Issue: I Just picked up the Insteon Ceiling or as Insteon spells it "Celing" Module 2475FC. Everything seems to work well except to control the lights on the fan I need to use the "Fast" on or "Fast" Off  command in PoIisy or quickly double tap the On and Off buttons (Fast On/Off) on the wall switch to control the lights. As you can see from my screen shot. All switches are in separate scenes. The fan light is in a scene as are all of the fan motor controls. So I must have missed something somewhere. Thanks for guidance.

First...where do you see that? I see their store site has "Ceiling Fan and Light Control Module", but not important.

My on/off control works as expected in eisy (IoX 5.6.0).

There has been a lot of discussion about keypads and fanlinc.

Latest wiki seems to be updated from one more recent forum discussion:

https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY994i:INSTEON_Device:FanLinc-KPL_FanLinc_KeypadLinc_Configuration

This is how my KPL looks just for basic grouping:

Did you happen to change anything with the "Button Grouping" option at the bottom of the keypad window? It opens up this window with the alert showing:

Did you buy the device directly from Insteon or 3rd party? Either way, you might want to perform a factory reset to completely clear any device memory. It could be some onboard memory issue that needs to be cleared out to work correctly with IoX.

I have a 6 button kpl controlling the fans.  I created a single scene, the kpl as well as the fanlinc are in the scene.  The 3 KPL buttons for low/med/high are set to non-toggle on.  The scenes when controlled by each of the KPL buttons will turn on the fan to its respective speed and turn off the kpl button for the other. The 4 kpl buttons, A is off, B is low, C is med, and D is high.  All 4 of those buttons are controllers of the scene.  If you turn on the scene from one button, the scene response is to turn off the other buttons and turn on the fanlinc to the corresponding speed.  Since the buttons are toggle on only, pushing a button that is already on doesn't do anything.  Pushing say medium button when it is already on low, will turn the backlight off on the low speed button as it changes the fan to medium speed.

I actually have multiple fans and multiple fanlincs as well as some additional switches that will only turn the fans on/off but not control speed complicating this screen shot.  But this is the screen shot of setting the fans to high.

Funny, I'm a terrible speller but improper spellings just jump out to me. In this case it is on their new "FanLinc" also not identified as such on the controller. Anyway, I think that my issue may be that the fan that I'm dealing with was originally controlled by a Bond Device. There are no physical pull chains for the lights or fan. Insteon says when I link the switch with the FThe wiring from both the Bond and Insteon controllers are the same and the motor controls all work just fine. Just the light has been the issue only responding to Fast On commands. I was worried that I might have had an issue with the neutral line but it does not appear to be the case as all the motor controls are responding as expected. Thinking that there might be something inside the fan that interfaced to the Bond Controller (of course replaced by Insteon Controller) I decided to create a simple work around. Instead of double clicking the on and off buttons, I opted to just write a couple of programs to translate the 6 button single press on or off buttons to send Fast On and Fast Off commands to the fan. Seems to work just fine so far, just a short bit longer to respond. If polygot on my Polisy worked I would have gone down that path, but since Polygot does not work on my system even though I have the Zoos USB interface, I decided to stay 100% Insteon. When I decide to replace the Polisy with the Eisy or get my current Polisy working, then I might start looking into adding different smart devices.

@Bob AmottIs the light in ceiling fan dimmable? The Insteon Fanlinc light control is for dimmers. Your need to use fast on/fast off means that it sets the light to 100%, which seems to be needed to turn your lights on/off. I bet that is the problem and they won't turn on <100%.

Yes, thank you. The lights dimmed when the Bond controller was connected.

Have you tried Factory Resetting the Fanlinc?

Sorry about the screen shots. I will copy and paste in the future. Thanks for the tip. As for the FanLinc, yes I did do a Factory Reset. Interesting that the motor controls work as expected. Since this is an old house, I was concerned that the Neutral wireing might be an issue but I imagine if that was the case the motor control would not work. Correct? BTW, I'm using the Polisy, version 5.5.9.

Just realized your what your last question was about. Silly me. I didn’t realize that using the fast on/of does not allow dimming. I will have to play with it again, put it back in a scene and see if I need to hold on to the on button and see if it will fade up. Any suggestions???

Replacing a Bond Fan Controller and switch with Insteon FanLinc and ^button Switch.

Thanks so much to Steve at Insteon and the folks in this thread that provided all the clues and advice necessary to finally figure out how to get this all working including the best way to program the Fan motor settings! The bottom line if you replace a Bond Fan Controller and Switch with an Insteon Switch switch and fan controller, Insteon was totally correct to tell me to have the light on when linking. (The fan came with the Bond switch and controller). I originally set the switch button on and linked them. That didn't work. Had no idea that I could turn the light on by doing a Fast On. Finally hit me that doing that was what I needed to do before I linked the Switch and the light. That finally worked. Thanks so much.

I missed relating the main steps for the solution. Since the fan has no physical light or motor chains to control the fan, I first linked the switch to the fan then turned on the light using Fast On Command. Left the light on, unlinked and relinked again. Finally setup all the motor links via UD methods.
