ZW nodes remaining after migration from Zooz to Zmatter

I migrated from Zooz to Zmatter and all went well, but I still have about 30 ZW nodes and the rest are ZY. Some of the ZW nodes report status and some seem to be dormant, but even the live ones have duplicate ZY nodes. Can I delete the ZW nodes and if so, how? I tried "Zwave/Remove Failed Node" but I get this error:

I'm running Iox 5.6.0.

Are you still on a Polisy?

What are your firmware and UI versions

If a Z-wave node is blank or unresponsive, right click on the node, click on Z-wave | Synchronize | Update with interview.

All the active Z-wave nodes should have migrated as ZW nodes. The ZY nodes either need to be updated, or are nodes that aren't being used, in which case you can create a folder called unused nodes, and move the unused nodes into it.

I believe under ZMatter all the nodes should be renamed to ZY, if you have ZW nodes hanging around I've seen where it was advised to open a ticket because they didn't migrate correctly.

When I migrated from the ISY to the EISY all my Zwave nodes maintained their ZW prefix in the eisy except for a few nodes that didn't exist in the ISY but appeared in the eisy, such as "Scene Responder"

Are the ones that are still ZW battery devices? I forget where it was documents (can't find it in the wiki), but in a release for ZMatter Z-wave support it was said that all nodes would rename from ZW to ZY.

Reason I ask about them being battery is this portion of the wiki might shed some light on why you have some ZW nodes.

@Techman yeah, I am not sure how yours also stayed ZW. Everybody else that runs ZMatter had reported the change. I did not migrate any Zwave and don't run many devices, but they're all showing ZY connected to the ZMatter dongle.

I am on Polisy 5.6.0.

Not all are battery devices. And as I mentioned, some of them (like Aeotec Siren 6) are showing active ZW nodes as well as ZY nodes. The ZY nodes are all working, so that part's OK. I just can't get rid of the ZWs. What's odd is the Aeotec seemed to be a backbone of some of the routing to my garage with the Zooz, so I would have thought it would be a strong candidate to migrate correctly.

I didn't see anything in the post-install instructions saying what to do about ZWs, and that would be consistent with the expectation that they should remain ZWs. Also, there is nothing in the post-install insructions about having to update Alexa, which would be consistent with not having to change device names from ZW. But that is what I had to do, Alexa had the ZW devices and thus the spokens no longer worked post-migration.

@geddy

I stand corrected. The node names, which had a prefix of ZW didn't change, but if I look at the actual node it changed to ZY

The node addresses should have updated to ZY, but the node names may need to be updated manually. All Zwave nodes on UD's ZMatter dongle should be ZY.

Turns out that this is exactly the situation, which caused my confusion (along with the untrapped error message I got when trying to remove them). Some devices have both ZW and ZY node names but in fact all are ZY. In cases where a device has both ZW and ZY node names, it appears that ZW were the device nodes that existed prior to migration and ZY the ones that migration created anew.

It would be good if the migration instructions included this. Or maybe I'm on the trailing edge of the migrators and it doesn't matter.

I opened a ticket with UD support. Will report results here.

What resulted from your ticket? Were the old ZW nodes able to be removed somehow?

I'm confused as to why/how some remain ZW. Perhaps it's an issue that hasn't been encountered (i.e. reported to UDI) enough for them to consider it being an issue worth making a note/comment in the migration process.

If you got resolution through the support ticket share what happened with that so it would help others that might suffer the problem. Additionally in the support ticket suggest that it be documented somewhere that this might happen and possible way to resolve it.

There really isn't any resolution necessary. See DennisC's comment above which is marked as Solution, all nodes are actually ZY but some retained their ZW name. The ticket is still open so I don't yet have any response on why I received an untrapped error.

When you migrate a ZWave network to ZMatter, the node addresses change from ZW to ZY. However, since the node names can be customized, if they maintain ZW in their name, that change needs to be done manually.
