Schlyguy Posted May 29 Share Posted May 29 I'm working my way through an EISY upgrade with a new USB PLM. Restored the new PLM, and most of the direct wired devices updated without major issues (about 200 devices in total). However - I've got about 8 plug-in modules of various types - older ApplianceLinc and newer On/Off style - and 5 of them won't communicate following the transition to the new EISY and USB modem. I started replacing them out with new modules, but after doing 2 and realizing I've got at least 3 more - is there some possible reason I'm having this level of difficulty? I've been doing hard resets of the non-communicating modules and restoring them from within the EISY - still - communication errors. I've updated all the packages on the EISY - it's up to date. Java cache cleared. Any insight would be appreciated. Link to comment
paulbates Posted May 29 Share Posted May 29 For Insteon, the ISY/eisy is the "system of record" for all Insteon network data. That makes restores possible and is good, unless something happened to that data during the migration, and that could explain your difficulties. A quick way to test this theory is to pick a non-working module with very little programming / integration associated with it; delete it from the eisy and re-add it at the same location. Retest. Techman Posted May 29 Share Posted May 29 In addition to what @paulbates suggested you can run a diagnostics on a device to compare link tables. That may help you narrow down the problem. The older appliance links are outdated and should probably be replaced with the newer dual band on/off modules. 1 Link to comment
paulbates Posted May 29 Share Posted May 29 FWIW I use a couple original lamplincs from my last house on my eisy that got moved with the Christmas decorations that they control. They look a little clunky and discolored by the sun, but keep working. Link to comment

Retest.... Just tried this with one of the "non-working" later model On/Off 2635-222 modules I just replaced. I re-added it to EISY, and it set up no problem, and able to control it remotely with no issues. Saved one module Tried it with the older ApplianceLinc - I get the "cannot determine insteon engine" error - so I supposed that module was bad. Did a hard reset by unplugging, holding in set button and replugging - and was able to add it to insteon also. Will now work through the others.... Edited May 29 by Schlyguy 1 Link to comment
Techman Posted May 29 Share Posted May 29 I believe the older ApplianceLinc modules were single band which could explain the communication issue. They also have outdated firmware and hardware. 1 Link to comment
Brian H Posted May 30 Share Posted May 30 Yes. The old 2456S3 ApplianceLinc was a single band power line only module. I have see two major versions of them. V1.3 was the original ones and v4.? (seen a few revisions) a slightly better design. V1.2 was a recalled revision as switching certain loads would cause the magic smoke to come out. 😀 Link to comment
