Johns9149 Posted Tuesday at 01:25 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:25 AM I started by wanting to use the UD mobile app. Once downloaded, I got an error message saying I needed to be on firmware 5.x.x. I was still on a 4.x.x version. So I downloaded the update. I also updated java. I followed the instructions in a different post and cleared java cache. Now I cannot open start.jnlp. any thoughts?? paulbates Posted Tuesday at 01:41 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:41 AM Did you download start.jnlp from here? https://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlp Quote
DennisC Posted Tuesday at 01:43 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:43 AM After deleting all three check boxes while clearing the Java cache, did you download a new start.jnlp from UD website? Quote
Johns9149 Posted Tuesday at 11:57 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:57 AM Paulbates / DennisC - yes to both Quote
Johns9149 Posted Tuesday at 12:01 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 12:01 PM I have downloaded the start file several times. start.jnlp shows in my downloads folder. When I click on it, nothing happens Quote
Johns9149 Posted Tuesday at 12:08 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 12:08 PM BTW, I have downloaded the latest java, running win 11, using microsoft edge browser Quote
Geddy Posted Tuesday at 01:05 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:05 PM @Johns9149 when you say "nothing happens" does it not even ask you what to use to open the file? Right click on start.jnlp and make sure that "Opens With" shows the "Java(TM) Web Launcher". That should be in the Java -> bin folder. Look for javaws.exe. (on my Win11 machine it's in C:\Program Files\Java\latest\jre-1.8\bin (also looks like it is in C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_461\bin) If still nothing is happening make sure you're not running any 3rd party anti-virus (or firewall/vpn) software. Lastly, when you're clearing java cache and have checked all 3 boxes you might have to manually force Java to remove any UD links. See below to find where to remove the application(s) listed. Also change the setting to deleted and remove any UD apps listed there. 55 minutes ago, Johns9149 said: BTW, I have downloaded the latest java Just to confirm based on what's on Java's site as of today - you're running: Version 8 Update 461 Release date: July 15, 2025 Just the "plain" Java install when you visit java.com and click "Download Java for desktops" is all you should be running. Johns9149 Posted Tuesday at 09:28 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:28 PM Geddy -- thanks for the suggestion of using the right click. Yep, got me back in. Now, any idea on how to the UD shortcut icon back???? I have moved the start.jnlp download icon to the desktop and I can get in that way.. just would be nice to get the shortcut back. Again, thanks for your help Quote

Then run start.jnlp again. More than likely java thinks thins are installed and it’s not actively adding the shortcut. That’s typical following a Java update as well. Quote
DennisC Posted yesterday at 01:58 AM Posted yesterday at 01:58 AM If none of the above works for you, try this: Admin Console Minimized/Invisible and Cannot be Restored This is usually related Admin Console state files not being updated properly and especially in case of multi monitors. All you need to do is to find the following files in Java temp directory (on Windows: c:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Temp) and delete them. Or, you can simply search the computer for udi_*.state or ud_*.state file patterns: ud_finder.state udi_finder.state udi_frame.state udi_launcher.state udi_pgm.state udi_tree.state Quote
